Recruiting Football Talk VIII

If the staff believed that either of those things are true they would have paid him. They did not. That tells me all I need to know.
I have learned through bitter experience...What people say on these situations means total 💩, if you wanna know the real truth of a situation...watch what they actually do.

Sounds like GM had a better day than Merk by a pretty wide margin. With that being said, everyone would be wise to keep in mind that the likes of Harrison Bailey, BJ Coleman, and Quintin Dormady all looked excellent in a spring game and were more or less worthless to the program on fall Saturdays. Meanwhile, Hendon threw a pick 6, looked pretty pedestrian in his spring game, and ended up being the best QB since Peyton. Just gotta keep things in perspective.
To add...I won't ever forget Bray's horrific spring game.

I cannot wait to watch Belichick vs Big Nick!
Nico burned any negotiation leverage he may have otherwise had.

It could have been, "I'm guaranteed 2.5 mil a year on a team that's competing for championships. What are you willing to offer to beat that?"

Now it's, "I got nothing. What are you willing to offer?"

What a bunch of Myrons. They'll ask Belly Check for 4 mil and a Bugatti and walk away with some Krystal coupons, a 1986 Chevy Chevette, and an opportunity to compete for a starting spot.

Funny, I think the rest of you are being dense suggesting a portal QB who has only summer camp to learn the playbook is worth $4 mil. I haven't been suggesting we cave and give Nico the money. I've been suggesting we stick to our guns and not overpay for a guy from the portal. If we were unwilling to give Nico $4mil, we don't need to throw $4 mil at a portal QB.

I have zero problems with cutting ties with Nico. He tried to extort the program. But let's all realize, he's not getting dropped because he lacks talent, he's getting dropped for being cancerous. He played well enough to get us to the playoffs in his first year starting. Everyone on here was talking about how he would develop going into next season. And there was every reason to think he would. One of the few highlights of the OSU game was him cracking his helmet, then going right back out there to play. So if we weren't going to pay him $4mil, I don't think we should be saying it's okay to pay a portal guy $4 mil. Save the money for Faizon Brandon.

So many of you seem to be missing my point. Or you just want to pay the next guy, no matter how he plays here, $4mil, just to say eff you to Nico. FFS, there's no need to overpay for a guy IMO. Worst case scenario we just roll with Merk. The only way I'm on board with $4mil is if it is somehow incentive laden, which my understanding is currently illegal. The last thing we want to do is pay $4 mil to a guy who comes in and under performs.
There are QBs that are worth top 3 QB money...that selfish pos wasn't. All he had was completely unrealized potential...period.

And I hope we don't overpay for anybody...I never said I WANTED them to just go pay some can-o-corn 4 mil...I just said there are QBs out there that would be....didn't say we could get them.

I think we agree in principle...everybody is just pissed off and on edge.

I could be dead wrong but I think the leak was intentional on our side. They knew he was being shopped around. He was trying to strong arm them into more money. I think Tennessee leaked it and got the exact reaction from everyone they wanted.

I don't think Danny is pissed. I think it was a master move and he's giddy over the results.
Agree.

Also, it’s noted: don’t double-cross Danny.

Good post.

People will point to OSU buying a QB and winning the NC. But OSU had everything they needed on the roster before that happened and still lost two games, one against an awful UM team that is their blood rival, before getting their acts together.

We do not have the roster to do that, we lack some talent at several positions. So how you spend the money in the portal matters. A $4 M one and done QB is unlikely to get it done for us. Use it on building the overall roster while developing the talented QB's already there. Make sure that All World QB commitment coming in next season arrives on campus and you have studs on the roster for him to use.
OSU did not lose 2 games because of their players..they lost the Michigan game because Day was being STUPID about his play calling.

They opened up theirvlmay book and it was like a dam burst on CFB.

They would have done that to everybody all year if not for Days stubborn stupidity....he had to have his back forced against the wall to change.

OSU would have had the #1 offense by a lot if it wasn't for Day.

It could mess it up bigger than it already will be and for what with FB coming in next season? Avery has not proven to be a world class QB IMO.
We can not afford to bottom out at 5-6 wins, and going into the season with just 2 QBs...absolutely untested QBs...is suicide.

If we are going to bring someone in, we have to bring someone in that can play....and those guys ain't coming here to sit...period.

Neither one of these boys were going to start or play much this year barring injury...so nothing will have changed.
