ESPN has been pushing the two-loss team making it narrative. Started with LSU, now it's Bama. I learned during the theft of Peyton's Heisman not to underestimate the influence of ESPN. I hope the committee does the right thing, but I'm not 100% convinced they will. If they try and sneak Bama in, ESPN will act as their mouthpiece in attempting to justify it. So the best outcome is really just to hope USC and TCU win.
The clock hadn't even struck zero yet, and ESPN had already started their campaign for Bama.

And, they've also started the Bryce Young/Heisman talk. That's going to be their other big push. Not going to surprise me one bit if he wins it again. Thing is, I can stomach that waaaay more than a Bama/CFP build up.

Yes! I told my friend the exact same thing!

ESPN was pushing for a two-loss team to make it this year. They were pushing LSU. But now that LSU has a third loss, they're pushing Bama. It's ESPN pushing a narrative. This is EXACTLY how they robbed Peyton of a Heisman.
The younguns think we are making this up! No, they did that and everything they could to keep us out of the national championship. If we would have had 1 loss we would have been at the end of the line for those chosen.

So, if Auburn is really about to back off hiring Hugh Freeze due to backlash:

1) How did they not see this coming? Are they really so stupid to not believe there would be backlash? You just have to have confidence and not care what other people say if you’re going to do it.

2) Who do they target now? Feels like Deion is the obvious answer. No other slam dunk hires out there, so you might as well take the high-risk, high-reward option.

I HATE how biased ESPN is. I don't understand how it helps them in the long run.

They don't understand. ESPN really does hate us.

I doubt Rattler goes pro. What has he really done to improve his stock? With a hot finish to this season, my guess is he comes back hoping to carry it into next season.
You would think so, but Rattler's plan was to only be at South Carolina for one season and then go pro. With how rough things have been this year, you can't help but wonder if he sees this as his window to make the move. He may view returning to South Carolina as a bigger risk. He's also the type that thinks he's the best out there...so he probably thinks he would blow the scouts away at the combine.

It's just the power/sway that Saban/SEC has. As bad as it sucks, Saban is just like Bryant was, the most powerful man in the sport, period

For the record, I'm not saying I think a two-loss Bama deserves to get in, nowhere near it...they've beaten NO ONE. I'm just saying, if TCU and USC loses, I'm betting the house Bama's in.

Ok. We'll see. I hope you're right; and, that's absolutely what SHOULD happen, a one loss over a two loss, but...

If nothing else, I needed a good laugh this morning. TCU in over Bama, well...that's just funny. And I'M the one who doesn't know what I'm talking about.

OK, but don't underestimate Beamer's ability to attract a Milton or Hooker type guy and coach him up. He's a goofball but a better coach than we think.
He’s really not lol. He’s a hype man. Butch 2.0. Offense has two good games and all the sudden Beamer can coach. Come on.., His DC tho… he is a very good coach.

Pretty incredible how quickly a narrative can change. I give Beamer a lot of credit for how he closed this season out, but the reality is they still went 8-4 and I don’t think the Gamecocks are truly any real threat to ever win the SEC. He’s Butch Jones 2.0 just like you said. Good for a few nice wins every once in awhile, solid recruiting, and a ton of billboard cliches and false hope for a fanbase.

Come back to this thread 3 years from now and he’ll be on the chopping block. He bought himself some time, but that’s about it.

Beamer salvaged this year, but I'm not scared of South Carolina next year. I think it's more than likely it just stretches out the programs demise than it does them being a legit threat in the East.

ESPN has lost their stinger with "most" fans but are still very much in the decision making for who gets on the Ballot for the Heisman as well as what teams play in certain Bowls because of their TV viewing rights and money they make from sponsors and the money they pay for the right to show SEC football, they are influential in who gets what and why unfortunately.

Is Alabama paying ESPN for positive PR?
It really goes both ways. Instead of being paid by Bama they are scratching each others back so to speak. ESPN owns the SEC network and if you think about it have you really noticed shows like Paul Finebaum are all about the Tide. Tennessee will never be equally represented in anything they do.

And even better…Marcus Satterfield. He was as good as gone and now gets an extension.

I don't think people are clamoring for Bama to be in the CFP and Bryce Young hype. I think it feels very artificial and forced.
It doesn't matter if they win, it is the fact that they want them to be in the conversation........Tide turns around season (more Tide fans than Vols for example around the country).. Bryce Young comes back for injury to be in the hunt for a second Heisman............It makes for good story lines.
