Agreed! But a loss wouldn’t mean anything for next year - would show injuries and lack of depth finally caught up to a team that overachieved in year 2 of a multi-year rebuild. To draw any other conclusion would be madness in my mind. But I’m sure other conclusions would be drawn!
A loss would suck out loud in every way possible.

I'm usually not one for extreme/hot takes... But this is a must win game imo. Doesn't mean anyone should get fired or anything, but losing today essentially makes what was on the precipice of one of our best seasons ever, 2016's step sister.

Finishing matters. And how we finish I think will say a lot about the leadership of the team and program in general.

*Post is not a referendum on coaches' tenures or 22 season being a success or not. Multiple points can be true at the same time.

I agree 100%…. A loss today and the season is ruined, imo

Kudos to Florida State for sticking with Norvell. Not sure what his ceiling is but they could have dumped him long ago and been in the coaching search spin cycle right now.

That’s one of the most improved teams from the beginning of the season to now. Travis has really developed into a stud QB

This week has been a bit sobering. While the loss to SC was tough, Hooker getting hurt and out for the season was incredibly sad. We dealt with the Banks nonsense, and that hopefully is in the rearview mirror. Then came the news about Hobbs committing. That was just what we needed to get us back on the front foot. I'm looking for a bounce back performance against Candy. I'm excited for tonight.

1. Don't care what any of the other teams are doing. I just want a solid win tonight. Make a statement about just who we are.
2. I'm happy with either bowl game we earn. Citrus, Sugar, Cotton are all just fine with me. Regardless, the stadium will be orange.
3. I want Milton to come out tonight and show everyone just how much he has improved his technique, poise, reading defenses, and game management. When he showed his loyalty to the Vols and stayed to continue his development, he displayed a ton of character. He deserves a lot of credit. Unlike so many players leaving for the transfer portal, he bucked the trend and fought for his position. I'm sure the only person cheering for Milton louder than me will be Hendon Hooker.
4. Let's keep this recruiting momentum going full blast right into the first National Signing Day in December. Also, attack the portal and get more talent who can come in and contribute right away, especially DBs and OT.

I'm so proud of what AD White and his staff, Heupel and his staff, and the players have accomplished this season. The stadium and the gameday experience has become awesome. The player development has exceeded our expections. While we still have a ways to go, the improvement has been so encouraging. Our fanbase is without a doubt the best in all of college athletics. I've enjoyed being a VFL more this season than in a way too long a period of time. It's fun to be a Vol. Nice to get back to the Vols being revelant again.

So - the battle lines are drawn.

Many on here would be very disappointed by a loss today but would not let it dampen their enjoyment of this season or their assessment of the amazing job Heupel has done bringing this program back from the edge of multi decade irrelevance.

Others see a loss as an unmitigated disaster that allows us to begin questioning everything we thought we knew about this program and its coaches.

That’s the bad news.

The good news is we would all equally celebrate a win! Go Vols!

I call 🦬💩 on that...it would NOT be 2016s step sister, that year was a massive flop by a loaded team...a team that was thought to he playoff worthy going in, it was a gigantic step back that got worse as the season went on.

This season is a huuuuge step forward...we are so far ahead of schedule that it is ridiculous. We were not supposed to be where we are for another 2-3 years. If this season is seen as a failure...it is because we have a large section of the fanbase with their head up their ass.

In the grand scheme losing this game means nothing besides injuries and a long season finally caught up to a ultra thin team. It will be disappointing...and that is it.

We've been playing with house money since the Bama game.

10-2 or 9-3 beating bama, fl and lsu in year 2
Great season imo
Especially with a terrible defense
Regardless of the losses it’s still an improvement over last year and another season in the right direction

This team still lacks quite a bit of talent
Only CJH could have made this work bc of the offense he runs
Need more talented guys on both sides of the ball

After years of enduring the coaching search spin cycle, I’m learning to appreciate schools that give guys a chance. Michigan has benefited from sticking by Harbaugh. Nebraska gave Frost every opportunity before it was clear he couldn’t do it, which likely made their job much more attractive to Rhule.

I hope we do the same with Heupel.
