I'm not an expert on soccer at all, why is Soccer a rich person's sport here in the US but not in (somewhat) equivalently wealthy countries like in Western Europe?
I’m not an expert on soccer either and not 100% sure it’s not similar in other countries…. I just know here in America that the high love club teams that these kids come from cost 18-20,000 or more a year… A lot of really great athletes gets left behind here in the states.

Tell me which SEC schools would anyone in our secondary, be the starter.

Tell me which SEC schools gave up 63 to South Carolina.

Under decent coaching and development, Turnage, Flowers, Charles, McCollough, Slaughter, and Hadden start at the bottom half SEC schools....schools that don't give up 63 points to abysmal offenses.

It's not that we don't have Bama or Georgia level secondarys. It's that we don't have Vanderbilt level secondary. And we have more raw talent than Vanderbilt.

He is an attorney and a very smart guy...just because he has a different perspective than you does not mean he is an idiot.
I didn’t call him an idiot. In fact, I tried to end it many times and he kept coming back with personal comments. Eventually I got tired of it and fired back. Then I get told to calm down because I fired back worse, well eventually you get tired of it. And I run a Tax & Accouting firm. Doesn’t mean squat when talking about football. I base most of my opinion from the people I hang around with who played in Neyland stadium under Fulmer and in the NFL. And I will take their opinion 100 times out of 100 over internet posters.

I hope so but he still seems to have some air mail in him. I have a ton of respect for him and don’t want to see him get trashed by people if he struggles.

Some will be screaming we need to hit the portal after the 1st incompletion. Tis the VN way for far too many.

If we beat Vandy and play well and do not get a NY6 bowl, we as a fan base do not need to show up. Let it be empty and tell Stankey to shove it.

You don’t go to the bowl game to support the SEC.

You go to the bowl game to support your Tennessee Volunteers team.
If we make the Cotton Bowl, I will most assuredly be there cheering for our Vols! (I do hope for a better matchup than Tulane however)

Unfortunately Banks has to go. Every unit has improved besides the safeties and corners.
I'm not sure I put the blame solely on Banks, but to your overarching point, I don't guess I've really thought about how simple it really is. You're right, every unit on this team has improved from the previous regime, even just from Heupel's first season...

QB- ✔️ Hooker/Milton both improved
RB- ✔️ Small/Wright both improved, and we lost Evans
WR- ✔️ Hyatt/Keyton...massive improvement
TE- ✔️ Fant/Warren both improved
OL- ✔️ Probably the biggest transformation
DL- ✔️ ...some may have an argument, here
LB- ✔️ Beasley/Mitchell both improved
CB- ✖️
S- ✖️

It's easy to see where the problems lie on paper. Neither of those backend units have improved a lick. And talent can't be an excuse because we didn't have a ton of talent at any of those other positions, either, yet they found a way to make passable units out of all of them but the secondary.

So the blame comes down to two ideas. Is Martinez just not developing these guys, motivating them to want to do more film study, inspiring them to be better? Or is it the scheme that he is being tasked with trying to put these guys in by his boss (Banks)? Or is it both?

In either case, it's pretty easy to narrow the focus of our struggle down to two people. And frankly, someone has to answer for what happened, Saturday, at some point.

Who all will be at the Vandy game this Saturday? I will. Just curious as to who is still all in.
Got a ticket last night. I'll be in Section S. If you can afford a ticket (they've gone down in price) and can make it to the game, go support this team. They've given us so many special and happy moments.

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink

I’d wager the coaches were dialed in just as they always are - players have to play and respect their opponent

But ultimately it’s a lesson for the entire program, coaches included

May they all learn it well and may Heupel be here 10+ years! We need coaching stability in the worst way.

Go Vols!
This, Hondo.

Peay got hosed by the FCS selection committee.
Much more deserving than several that got in!

"Chip-on-the-shoulder" for next season. Let's Go Peay!!!!

We lost 1 FCS game this season,,,,,3 loses to FBS schools. Total BS

Peaygolf just saying.....................

It's not his offense............whoever comes in will run the same. I know he calls plays, but UT can find someone who wants to come and help run this scheme, with this talent.
If Golesh leaves, look for Halzle to get promoted to OC. I really believe that's the natural progression at this point.

To get decent training you need to either go to England or pay a **** ton because the supply doesn't meet demand when it comes to good trainers/coaches.
In many countries, soccer is THE sport. In the U.S., it comes after football, basketball, baseball, and probably at least a few others. I mean, here, I'd say hockey, tennis, and golf are even more popular than soccer. It just doesn't get the same attention here that it does in the rest of the world.

We will never have a great national team until soccer quits being a rich person sport, imo.
This is actually incorrect now. They changed the league formats and development system years ago so that more people without money could play. It is a big reason we have such a talented young team now. It gave many of them opportunities that weren’t there before. But this was within the last ten years or so. Biggest issue I have with US soccer now is not taking it seriously. Our coach is very average and we took over a year to hire him. If they were serious, they would have paid big bucks for a proven coach. But they went cheap and the easy route because we don’t soccer seriously as a country.

Martinez and Banks need criticism, that's absolutely justified. What is ludicrous is the fahr 'em mentality. My goodness this fanbase has tunnel vision, it was two years ago we had to beg someone to take this effing job.

TN was 3-7, then 7-6, then 9-2. In two years we were able to do what couldnt be done in 15.

We've had injuries, and, it didnt take many. I do think the indictment surrounding knowing that there were glaring weaknesses at LB & DB, and inability to get kids from portal/recruiting is warranted. We rolled into SP with 0 schollie DB's. Zero, or, maybe 1.

Making wholesale changes, as we've seen in those 15 years has rarely paid dividends. Fahrrin' Coordinators can lead to Dave Clawson, Sal Sunseri, or guy Botch brought in from WC.

Please, mercy. No more of that.

It gets attention with kids but as a career, the high end training dips harshly because of those factors you mention. It's just hard to keep high end training going locally/domestically. Best bet is to move to Europe and hope for an academy invite and that is a hard sacrifice for parents or anyone.

Our development system used to be very expensive . When I played ODP (Olympic development player), it was very expensive and very political. Even club ball used to be outrageous. You traveled the country playing and it was all out of pocket.
