Because the post you quoted was talking about last season. Why was that so hard to understand?

And the very next sentence he said "we've won this season in spite of terrible defense". We held LSU and Kentucky to their lowest outputs of the season. That's not terrible defense. Played well against Pitt. Played well against Bama too honestly, BY is just unreal.

Well, going to my only Tennessee game this year against Vanderbilt. I admit I'm a touch less excited. How fun it would have been for the playoffs to have been in our future. Still excited and worried about Vandy's uptick in performance. And, post South Carolina, I'm still largely confused about what the heck happened.

We would just be wanting him fired today….. remember he was the DC that was fired from Clemson after they gave up 70 points against West Virginia…. I really think UT fans live in a bubble and don’t realize what happens outside of it.
To be fair the Clemson offense turned the ball over 4 times and gave WV 28 of those points. He consistently put out defenses that kept his teams in the top 25. At Auburn and LSU the only teams that put up more than 40 on them were the Tua and Mack Jones Bama teams. His 2017 team only had more than 30 scored on them once and that was in the bowl against UCF after they just missed the playoffs and didn't care. Now, I doubt he could have done it with these DBs because he hasn't had good luck with Miami either, but the guy can put together a strong D

That game in Lexington where we had more talent by your measure where our illustrious DC rushed 3 when we had them in like 4th and 40. Put what you claim is zero talent in a position to cover for 5 min. Most defensive coordinators worth a nickel would have sent the house knowing that there was virtually no way the receivers could get down field before they got to the qb. It's was as big of a bone headed play that I've ever witnessed.

Most defensive coordinators do not send the house when the other team has 40 yards to go. Good teams get there with 3 or 4. Our defensive roster last season was sadly on par with Kentucky talent wise rather or not you want to admit that. It still is. Our roster is middle of the pack. Better than Vandy, about even with the SC's and KY's of the world.

Lol. They do. How did our strategy pay off?

Not even going to acknowledge you're wrong and most teams don't send the house when the other team needs forty yards? Watch a few hail mary plays. You'll find most teams are sending 3 or 4.

The fact that the strategy didn't work doesn't mean the strategy is wrong. Sometimes you call inside zone and it goes nowhere. Other times you hit a home run. Sometimes you drop 8 and the other team throws a pick. Other times you get beat.

Odd too that you're trying to say this isn't about any one game (yet you keep referencing individual games) yet you've not mentioned actual stats.

I hate Georgia fans. I hate them with soul piercing fury. I hate them with a red hot passion that could set the world alight.
Growing up it was always Bama until I moved from Lincoln County to Chatt. Dawg fans are the most pretentious pricks for a team that has only turned the corner the last few years. Grown men that bark are not winners no matter how their team does.

I couldn’t believe the hurtful posts I’ve seen about Hooker’s injury on social media. For all of the posts about Hooker’s torn ACL on Facebook, there were a select few “laugh emoji” responses and I clicked on the profiles and most were Georgia fans. Celebrating an injury is absolutely poor taste.

Lol. I can't believe you're defending a strategy, that didn't work, with what you believe to be bad players, to place those players in a situation where they have to cover down field for an eternity, while expecting 3 d lineman to get to the qb while being blocked by 6 lineman. I think we're done here.

LSU threw for 300 yards, Bama scored 49 and racked up 569 total yards while Bryce threw for 455 (the 2nd most of his career). Against Pitt we gave up 415 total yards and 27 points with a backup playing the 2nd half.

Defense has had 2 good games all year. Kentucky & Akron, and neither one of those teams is a very good offense. Kentucky has failed to reach 300 total yards in 5 games this year and have scored 30 or more only 3 times all year.

Keep positing though it shows confidence.

its all bad

scheme blows and secondary is not talented but the DL is def a huge part of this. They were getting pressure all yr until the last few games. And nobody is ever in decent position almost like they never even practice these Zone looks.

Tim Banks strategy of blitzing, not getting home at all and then having these horrific DBs have to cover forever is just a terrible combo. We had masked it a bit when were getting pressure and playing with a lead.

but we all knew.

FYI, in my completely computer-generated rankings, UT only dropped from 4 to 6. I know that won't be our actual rank, but wanted to share.

Is the goal of defense to give up <300 passing yards or to give up the fewest points possible?

Yes, Bama has the best QB in the country. Yet we lived in their backfield and BY just made insane plays. Until we catch them on the recruiting trail, that's going to happen. Elite players make elite plays. Their offense had multiple. Our defense has none.

27 points including overtime is a good performance.

Yeah…. He gave up 45 points to MTSU….. don’t think anyone would be happy with that….. if we decide to fire our d/c and db coach…. We need to hire a new age coach that knows how to deal with these wide open offenses…. We will still probably have to give them time as our talent and depth grows.

If you’d told me the final score Saturday would be 63-38 I’d have thought “Hmm, 38 is a lot for the defense to give up to such an anemic offense.”
LMaO! Exactly why it was such a bad coaching job by Banks. It’s losing your job level bad.

I would argue the defense is the reason we beat Pitt. If the offense didn't start slow or had they come out in the second half like they played at the end of the first then we win by multiple scores.

I mean Vandy is 5-5 against us over the last 10 years and until Pruitt’s second year had 5 of the last 7 against us so I think we have all learned to handle losing to Vandy.

I’m just not sure how much the team cares any more. Their leader on offense is lost for the year. The playoff is out of reach. Vandy needs this one to get to bowl eligibility. It’s all a very bad mixture.
BS…. Nobody should get use to losing to Vandy…. I don’t think these players have quit and are probably embarrassed by their performance saturday….. if anything…. They probably thought they were better than they were and got knocked down a little bit.

They are the worst. It took everything I had not to beat the breaks off of some of them in Athens.
