Sadly I now wonder if the Jeremy Banks stuff has been present all season.

Last year he had 128 total tackles, 11.5 TFL, 5.5 sacks, 1 INT
This year he has 46 total tackles, 4.0 TFL, 0 sacks, 0 INT

And hadn't missed a game until last night...that's a big decline in production, screams lack of effort.
I dunno who is doing those stats but every game I’ve watched he has been in on more than 5 tackles a game. So….. I’m a little skeptical.

Are all our dbs 3 stars? Makes sense.
3 of the 6 DBs we have committed for this class are also 3*'s. A false narrative is being put forward that it's all on the talent. Crazy that some don't want to admit a well-paid coach just isn't getting his job done.

One thing I have liked about this team, especially on offense, is after the play there is no showboating or look at me B.S.. They do what they do then line up and do it again. I think it was Vince Lombardi that said "When you score act like you have been there before and expect to go back". Refreshing to say the least.

It demonstrated the lack of talent. Yes, 2 3 stars that he coached and recruited. You can’t expect him to turn just any random 3* into an elite player. That’s not how any of this works. If it did, Saban could just got to Vandy and win a national title tomorrow with their roster of 3*s.

But what it does demonstrate is that Martinez can both identity and develop talent. It also demonstrates that our secondary is severely lacking of talent given a lower tier team like SC has as many freshmen 4* dbs as we have total. Surely you see the problem with that and realize that’s not a WM or Banks problem
What I see is you making excuses. CWM needs to do a better job.

Him and banks got exposed saturday. No more excuses, look what huepel is doing on the offensive side with the same amount of talent. He is over achieving and breaking records.
I’m with you, banks and Martinez need to step up or step to the side.

We’re all pretty familiar with WM at this point, and he has had some success with some lower ranked players it’s true. And your point about a lack of talent at DB is true as well. I think it led Banks to scheme the soft zone, bend but don’t break, keep everything in front defense we saw. It worked at times for us. But the inability to throw something different at SC when it was clear what wasn’t working was so glaring. I’m thinking of making a YT video showing a dozen plays or so where the defensive calls were just flat out the wrong ones. Banks’s inexperience came back to haunt us in the worst way. So you’re not wrong about a lack of talent, but the evidence of Banks being over his head is not limited to the SC game. I mean this guy’s specialty is supposed to be DBs. I move for a vote of no confidence.

There's more to it than just sending him packing. If you believe it can be better with an infusion of talent you do that. If not then you part ways, Huepel has earned the right to make that decision, he's earned our trust, let him handle it.

It's been more than 24 hours and your still stuck on knee jerk....... Process your emotions man. Think about the bigger picture.

Pretty good analysis. The problem is the infusion of talent is gonna take a few years to come into itself. I totally agree Heupel has earned the right to decide. But it’s hard to imagine he looks at that loss last night and thinks more talent alone is the answer.

I’ve been giving Banks the benefit of the doubt all year long. Until last night.

I was looking for any type of improvement from our DBs from the beginning of the year. Nope. They have regressed. That’s primarily on Martinez. Making the same mistakes over and over again.

No significant change up in scheme or coverages or adjustments all year? That’s on Banks. Our Lbs and safeties look lost in coverage as well not just the Cbs.

Heupel needs to break the bank and go after Ryan Walters (Illini DC). He is a rising star and stud recruiter.

UT just going to let SC get away with that crap of a playing surface? A complaint should definitely be filed.

That crap playing surface is what caused Hooker to tear his ACL.
Now that I can agree with. What an abomination.

Borderline conspiracy territory. How was no one even talking about that?

He's not wrong about Banks.

Even with two NFL dbs last year the yardage given up was ridiculous.

I've been patiently waiting for him to show something. But his scheme just helps even average offenses build momentum....
SEC QBs are averaging 400 yards and 4 Tds against TN this year.
He has to go.
This isn't even close to being right. Even if you add up their TOTAL offense, still not even close. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with your overall point, Banks having to go; but, let's not start making sh!t up.

So 3*'s and 4*'s aren't talent?

And the reason I didn't name them is because I accurately stated ALL of our scholly DBs are at least 3*'s. Do I need to name all of our scholly DBs for you?
No, it's not talent. No one would take over a secondary full of 3* players in the SEC and say "this is one talented roster we have". We have a total of 3 4* DBs. That's not on this staff.

Flowers 3*
Hadden 3*
Slaughter 3*
Tank 4*
Turnage 4*
Rucker 3*
Charles 3*
Dee Williams 3*
Jourdan Thomas 3*
Christian Harrison 3*
Turrentine 4*
Walker 3*

Edit: for more perspective on how bad that is, SC has more 4* freshman DBs than we have total 4* dbs.

Sup fellas. Yall both my homies, but i will add this:

An RF poster who is big on stats recently did a comparison between the 14 DBs currently listed on our roster and the 7 new ones committed for 2023....

IIRC, 6 out of 7 new guys coming are 4* ...some high 4*s, and the only 3* is close to being a 4* also.

Of the 14 on scholarship now, the LOWEST ranked committ out of the 7 new DBs is rated HIGHER than 11 out of 14 guys on the current roster. That is a huge talent disparity, at least according to the recruiting services. Its also telling that out of the 14 currently here, we have only seen maybe 7 of them ever touch the field during a game? That includes senior day also. Apparently no amount of coaching can make the other guys be even an SEC backup.

Its not like this staff, who eat sleep and breathe cfb, do not know that our passing defense is horrific. We got all we could thru the portal then spent almost a third (7 / 25) of our scholarships for 2023 getting about 2 normal cycles worth of quality DBs to fix the issue. Is Martinez getting the most out of our guys? Is Banks a good coach? There is absolutely no way to know for certain right now....it may be 2024 when these 7 guys are sophomores before anyone could be sure.

For now though, i will trust Coach Hype and his ability to manage his assistant coaches. He knows his job depends on them performing, and he knows 1000x as much about coaching than any poster on VN....so i will ride with CJH.

On this day on my facebook memories-- Butch Jones proclaimed that our VOLS were the champions of life. I can bet Hype won't do that, and hopefully we regroup and end the season with a win against Vandy.

Interesting name to throw out there. They were at Mizzou together. Walters was co-DC while Heupel was the OC. Haven't really watched his defenses play, but I'm assuming he learned from Odom while at Mizzou.

I think we may be misinterpreting the Banks issue. It's more than possible that Banks had some incidents and got left at home but that it didn't tear up the team in any classical sense. It's just that our defense is so bad that not having our star MLB out there wrecks our already shaky defense. Banks cleans up safety play all the time because our guys aren't there. He's a key in our blitzes and does a ton of tackling.

IOW, he doesn't have to be a locker room cancer in any of this. It could just be a kid that screwed up and got punished like any other kid would but his absence exposed an already awful defense.
