If the team was that close to not being ranked, the winning team shouldn't get credit for beating them as a ranked team. It's not punishing the winning team by not giving them credit for beating a ranked team, it's simply not rewarding them for something they didn't earn. There's a difference. If a team can't finish the season ranked, barring exceptions like major injuries, then no one who beat them that year deserves credit for beating a ranked team no matter what they were ranked when they played.Just by nature of the losing team dropping in rankings or out of the rankings completely because they lost penalizes the winning team immediately. Makes no sense. Counting ranked wins at the end of the year is a good metric. But the only acceptable way is at time of play.
If bama goes on to lose 4 more and they don't have any major injuries, we should not get credit for beating a top ten team just because they hadn't revealed their true quality by the time we played them.
