Fingers crossed. This team and this fanbase deserves to have a good year. Everytime we have a glimmer of hope since 2009 it’s come crashing down on our heads.

This ain’t those years.

These players aren’t those players.

These coaches are not those coaches.

Hopefully, this fanbase ain’t those fans. The ones that never gave up! Not the negaVols.

A win by any other name still is recorded on the correct side of the DASH. As in

15-0 🤠

I still think it’s a little hard to overstate mentally what that kind of win means for the fans and hopefully the team. There were so many “here we go again” moments, so many blown opportunities, so many costly mistakes, but the Vols still pulled it out. We’ve failed to do just that how many times over the last 15 years? It could’ve been prettier but sometimes you have to win ugly games.

Someone pointed out a few days back that Heupel doesn’t have a great record in close games. Well, he’s won a couple big ones already in his tenure here, and both were against ranked opponents on the road. Certainly shows he has the capability to win close ones.

Only problem I have to this (which may be an unpopular opinion) is Hendon Hooker. In my opinion he was just ok. Not honorable mention. Dude looked like the VT qb we all thought we were getting. Second quarter and OT he was good but other than that it was rough.
I swear, people expect perfection and do not understand how good Hooker has been for us. He was 64% for 325 yards. If Tillman catches that long pass and Flowers doesn’t muff the punt, we likely win by double digits and Hooker has a near 70% completion rating and 385 yards passing. We have one of the top QBs in the SEC and entire country.

I hate to say it but there is a chance Hooker peaked last year.

He can still be good. But you might realize there is no upside.

I think that’s why coaches wanted Milton to figure it out.

I am not saying make a change. I don’t think you can do that.

I’m just saying improvement on last year light not be reasonable. But something similar would be great.

I have so many emotions right now. We tried our hardest to blow this game but I'm proud of how we played until the end. So many times over the years when we explode we continue to do so and lose the game.

Quick Observations:

Thought we should have tried to run the ball more but Pitt did a really good job stopping the run. Also, if Wright can't hold on to the ball he can't play. 2 fumbles in 2 games.

I haven't seen Tillman drop so many passes ever. Despite that he had 9 for 162 with like 1000 targets. I think we need to get McCoy more targets going forward, spread the wealth. Hyatt with 11 grabs but couldn't get him deep to use his speed.

Defensively we couldn't stop the run and we missed so many tackles. Slovis was carving us up early but I haven't seen our defense run around and hit so violently in years. And the defense deserves the gameball, best defensive effort against a quality opponent in quite some time. We need Mitchell back or force Herring to grow up quick bc we need help at LB. Burrell played better but somebody (Turnage, Charles) need to step up. But I'll take 4/18 on 3rd down anyway.

Overall tho, I'm happy as hell lol. We played a C+ game and won on the road against a ranked team while beating up their starting and backup QB.

I gave you a like, but our LBs played awesome. How many passes did Banks get a hand on? The defensive staff saw a low trajectory passing arc from Slovis and had Banks shadow him. Beasley was a heat seeking missile for most of the game.

I came away from the game just about ecstatic with our defense. The obvious development by our players and coaches. The fact that our defensive cosching staff had an actual game plan for Pitt’s strengths. They also modified the game plan in game with notable improvement in the defensive play as the game went on.

When was the last time Tennessee had that level of defensive coaching? The answer? A long damn time ago.

The receivers made his average look good. He was all over the place last night

what

I am but I am no longer in athletics. Couldn’t handle the grind anymore.
Best decision I’ve made in a while. M-F is nice.
I’ve worked in college athletics for a D2 school and in minor league baseball. The grind from working in sports keeps you from enjoying other sports. I switched to a M-F job several years ago, and I have zero regrets.
Looking to make that change myself soon. Working in sports information is an absolute meat grinder, looking forward to making more money to work 20+ less hours a week.

Defense was a huge bright spot yesterday.

Everyone in the SEC should be panicking about us. If we can win a game when our offense is off because of the defense- evil laugh 😂

He will likely finish this year with 3500+ yards and 65-70% completion rating. And 500+ yards rushing. He is a fantastic QB. Don’t take it for granted. Look around the country and see what bad QB play does for a team.

You are totally right. And that would be an awesome year!

Did you see our O line get abused all game? He had no time and still got yards. His throw to Bru was one of the best throws you could make. Receivers also had plenty of drops. He started rusty but after the first quarter he was dialed in. It was also on the road against a top defense.

Can't lie...I immediately thought of our conversation when they called that and completely effed up the whole play and basically cost Texas the game.

We need vol twitter to recruit some allies and change the narrative from Bama being dominant the last decade to Bama being the lucky recipients of incredible bias across the board. Before it might have sounded like sour grapes, but after yesterday the rest of the college football world is ready. There are plenty of examples and a nice little montage could easily be compiled. I believe in the power of Vol twitter.
The new perception: Bama is college football’s teacher’s pet.
