Not always. But, they do indicate what other people around the nation are thinking about different programs talent levels. So, I think it's safe to say that, most people who aren't pining for a recruit believe that Oregon has the talent level to be in the BCS hunt. Contrary to ClearWaterVol's assertion.

In 2005, UT was preseason #2/3 in almost every poll available.

I know Oregon fans have no idea how such a lofty ranking would feel, but had you ever been there before at both the beginning and end of the season (the Vols have won NC, so they have finished on top), you'd know that preseason polls are like Duck poop.

Me either. :) It was, by no means one of our best seasons, but amazingly enough, it would rival just about anything the Ducks have ever accomplished.
Ducks had a big year with Harrington at the helm and finished in the top 2 or 3, but there were about 25 teams in the country that could have demolished them. Recipients of weak ass conference and lamer bowl game against a Big 10 patsy.

It's just the Pac 10 way. Hell, that formula won Michigan a championship.

I think his point was that the USC system UT staff was telling Brown they would run requires the players that USC had at the time. He wanted to know what UT was planning with the players they have, instead.

Before USC's offensive coordinator could make that system work in 2005, a guy named Lane Kiffin had to recruit the players to made that USC system work. Where is CLK now? What was he doing in 2005?

What does the 364 and 372 on the left side mean?

And UT needs to install a 24/7 webcam on a nearby building so we don't have to rely on someone to drive by and take pictures.

Nation: Oregon current talent level > UT current talent level

Sorry, the points about who won what in the past are only relevant to fans. Not recruits looking at current teams to play on. You guys don't want to start sounding Notre Damish, do you?

I think USC's recruiting has been just fine without CLK, although they don't appear to evaluate offensive players as well.

He was riding Norm Chow's coat tails and relying on location and Pete Carroll for recruiting. You will notice that there was no change in recruiting quality at USC after Kiffin left.

Just now read the Crabtree article. It doesn't sound like Brown is going to end up at Miami, but who knows. I still think, as I have for a long time, that he ends up at Oregon.

"It's not completely out that I don't use that visit to Miami, but I don't see me using that visit there now," said Brown, whose brother, Arthur, was a freshman linebacker at UM this past season. "I wouldn't necessarily say they're out because I've seen it. I know everything about the program and I've gotten a chance to meet the offensive coordinator [Mark Whipple, who was hired late last month]. That will all be weighing in on my decision."

Brown said he met with Whipple face to face before the dead period started.

"We basically talked Xs and Os," Brown said. "It's kind of hard for me to say what the offense is going to be like. Some of the stuff he was talking about – putting me out in space, and allowing me to get matched up with linebackers and cornerbacks one-on-one – sounds good, but inside something just tells me that his philosophy or the way he does things isn't what I really like. He did say he'd use all of my talents, though."

yes there was. The offensive players you started getting were just high star count guys and weren't the quality that CLK ferreted out.

Exactly. Play in a conference that has one annual powerhouse and all you need to do is field a team every 3 or 4 years to have a run at it.

there is no way that the nation buys that. The nation thinks Oregon has a decent offense and no defense in a shatty conference.

The nation thinks UT has some talent, especially on D, no quarterback and a brand new system to swallow.

I disagree. Those kids are talented and had offers from every elite program in the nation.

I think that, after Chow left, they lost their identity in the rushing game. So, have relied on passing and d to carry the day. That's why I'm not too worried about USC recruiting Brown.

That's Dickens' exgirlfriend's phone number. He painted over one of the numbers.

Hmm Kiffin committed much more to the run than Chow did, and had two 1000-yard rushers and a Heisman Trophy winner...they went downhill running the ball more after Kiffin left than Chow

the highlighted portion being the problem with your argument.

They were talented, but didn't fit the system. CLK knows what he has to have in his system and seeks it, rather than star counts and 40 times.

After Chow left, they had the best offensive season in the history of the school and lost because Carroll's D dropped the ball against a one dimensional TX team.

And this is exactly what Brown was talking about.

Oregon has the talent for their system to be ranked. UT does not.

You might compare the productivity of the SC offenses before and after Kiffin and then reach the same conclusion that Pete Carroll did. More credit goes to CLK than to Norm Chow.

See if you can figure out which years USC had the best offenses they've ever fielded, figure out who the OC was that year, then find out who recruited the players to make it work.

To argue that talent is all it takes to win in college football on a UT board is to admit you don't know anything about UT football.

Who wants a prima-donna like this anyway? No matter how good HE THINKS he is.

Go to the great NW, grow a beard, wear bierkinstocks (sp) and listen to grunge.
