I get so mad when people take a first pitch fastball that’s right down the middle. Mainly when I watch the MLB because every pitcher has nasty off speed stuff. The first pitch of every game is 99/100 a fast ball right down the pipe.
When I coached softball, I would tell my girls to make sure they are timing the speed of the pitch in the on deck circle because if that girl gives you a fastball down the middle it better be a line drive to the outfield. First pitch is the most predictable.

Which is hard to argue when you see inconsistent strike zones.

But it still doesn't justify hitting them.
Some people are just terrible as umps. Doesn't mean they should be punched. I think every parent should have to umpire a game for other teams to see how hard it is. I have to call lines in volleyball all the time and when people complain about my calls I happily offer them the job. I've never had another person take it.

I did it as a teenager- both baseball and basketball. You get thick skin when you do it at a young age.

I believe this subject came up several weeks ago, and I said then that all I care about is the ump/referee knowing the rules and putting forth the effort to be in position. Also, you have to be willing to have some thick skin and understand that coaches will see things differently as they are competitive and want to protect their players. However, resorting to violence is outrageous and should never be tolerated. But, two reasonable people can have a back and forth discussion/disagreement while still being professional and not ending up with technical fouls or worse.

So, he forced his way into a place after being told not to. Then he fired a gun during an altercation with people trying to protect themselves from his intrusion? Doesn't seem like the actions of a rational or stable individual.

Definitely not someone I would want around or, potentially, influencing my college age kids.
Don’t tell me how to live my Tuesday nights!!

We are probably going to lose 10+ games at least. The team as a whole is cooling off at the plate from the insanely torrid pace that was set early on...but it will still be a very good offense.

We are going to be running into more teams with good to very good pitching...and just like our guys, those guys are hard to hit when they are on.

I love that we got off to a great start, but I think a lot of the fans that just started following, and know little about high level baseball, will not understand the fundamental realities of baseball and will fall iff the wagon just as quick as they jumped on.

I love this team for re-igniting my long dormant love of the game. I just can't get into the revolving door of modern MLB, and now we have a fun team to watch that are Volunteers.
You should have seen the meltdowns from so called fans in the baseball forum last season when we lost two straight in Omaha. I mean, it was freaking Omaha and people were bitching about how much of a choke job it was. The BB forum regulars were disappointed but they understand the game. It's the bandwagon numbnuts who drive me to drink.

I said it didn't justify getting physical. But I stand by my assertion of having a consistent strike zone. I would think an ump could keep his/her strike zone consistent regardless of which side is pitching.

The thing that bothers me about last night's game is the pitcher that owned us came into the game with like an ERA of 9.

Those are the parameters sir.

I’ve stabbed the people today alone who didn’t like golf… including myself
If I had a choice between going to play a round at local Muni, beer provided and golf cart also and say, working id prob play golf. Maybe. I also consider golf a massive waste of time ans boring as ****.

I don’t think we lost this game because of the wood bats, but we can lose the next few because of it. You are correct. Bad idea.
We hadn’t been as crisp at the plate here lately but I don’t really think the one day of wood bats will have much of an effect….. the majority of the team swung wood bats all summer long and a lot of players use those camwood bats for bat speed and things like that…. We might hit a slump but I don’t think it will be bc of the wooden bat.
