Whisky, bourbon or scotch and what's your favorite?

I use Redbreast 12 to introduce folks to Irish whiskey. My daily drinker is 12 cask strength or 15. I also enjoy the RB Lustau and 21. Still watching for a decently priced bottle of RB 27. I'm not paying >$600 for a bottle of anything. I also enjoy Scotch, not so much the peat monsters, and bourbon. I think Russell's Reserve 10 year is one of the most unappreciated bottles on the shelves.

If RR 10 was made by Sazerac instead of Wild Turkey, it would sell for twice as much.

Finished off a bottle of Tomatin 12 this evening, not a bad introduction to highland scotch (and scotch in general.) May try to find some solid cheap options for scotch and keep one on hand. Bourbon still wins for me so far.

Pretty cool thing happened to me today. Last year, a Jefferson County (KY) deputy was ambushed and murdered (bad start to this post,) and someone did a raffle for the family with the winnings being several Eagle Rare single barrel picks. I didn’t win then, but got a message last night that they did another Eagle Rare pick and were giving the non-winners a chance to purchase one before they released it to the public. Got mine this afternoon and plan to open it hopefully this weekend.

Allegedly, each stave comes from the distillery on it, but it’s probably just random staves from random distilleries

I've seen that come up in several searches as a viable alternative to mass produced brandies and cognacs. Is it good?

I really like it. Granted, I am not an expert since it is the first bottle I have ever had. My oldest son got it for Xmas for me. The guys at Pops on Emory Road in Powell recommended it highly to him.

I've been told you either love it or hate it. I've never tried it but wanted to. I'm not a huge fan of wheated bourbons so I'm not sure why I bought it. It'll be in my collection.

Nephew turned me on to Aerstone. At our local store, a 10 yr Single Malt Scotch for $28. Two versions. Sea Cask non-peated. And Land Cask Peated. Not big on the Land Cask. I've been getting the Sea Cask. IMO a very good scotch, and getting a 10yr single malt for under $30.
