War in Ukraine

Who keeps telling everyone that these sanctions don't or won't have an effect? Hannity? Carlson?

The severity of the sanctions will be determined by the Russian people and their willingness to tolerate them, Putin doesn't care and you can bet he factored all of this into his plan.
LULZ
I don't swing from the sacks of Hannity and Carlson regurgitating the stuff they report. You are correct about the Russians and their tolerance. We will see what transpires.

That's assuming Putin would keep it conventional. I'm not sure that's a safe assumption.
Putin is not who you need to worry about going nuclear. We have game planners in Washington that have been advocating a nuclear first strike policy and are convinced we would have an advantage if implemented.

From my perspective, to give Ukraine an opportunity to inflict heavy casualties. Maybe give Russia a reason to think twice so that maybe this doesn’t happen at all.

Hell we had our Afghanistan and Iraq..let Russia bleed as far as I am concerned., get sanctioned, whatever..But if Biden puts this into some stratosphere of WW3, he is at fault. Bluffing and posturing on both sides..I hope

Trump shouldn't have said that simply because he's the former POTUS, but if you look at this strategically, he's not wrong. Putin's strategy seems to be sound. And before you start calling me a Putin fan boy, I think it'd be great if the Ukraine forces were able to repel any invasion.

Agreed. Putin's ploy to date makes sense. But for our prior COC to deem it "genius"... come on man.

Thing is, there's politics, and there's what's right. Trump ALWAYS does what's best politically, not what's right.

At the end of the day, Donald's #1 concern is... Donald.

At this point they would probably have success invading us. They can go straight through Canada.

I don't think he stops at Donetsk and Luhansk.

Also, if you truly believe the propaganda of Putin having this strong desire to reassemble the Soviet Union, then why did he pass up the perfect opportunity 6 weeks ago to take over Kazakhstan? He brought in the military to help stabilize the place and then rolled them out in less than a week.

I would love to hear the fearmongers explain why he didn't just roll Kazakhstan.

Arming the Afghan Army worked out.

It's shocking to reflect upon how much we've lost because we believed that the enemy of our enemy was our friend.

Moreover, we too rarely consider the humanitarian ramifications of prolonging a war by supplying a side that cannot win it the means of prolonging it.

And that’s different from most other politicians, including the current POTUS, et al, how? It’s not.

See this is where you inject your feelings and let ideological agenda affect the matter. Trump sanctioned the pipeline and Biden just reimposed it.

Uh, maybe his army is preoccupied with something else at the moment?

The same reason he doesn't need to formally take over Belarus.

A supposed 21st Century Hitler willing to pass up the opportunity to land grab...OK.

What would Hitler have done in that situation?
Putin isn't Hitler. I've never claimed that, I know others in the thread have.

Kazakhstan is a compliant country from his perspective, so he doesn't need to take it over. Especially when he has this crisis on his western border.

No politician "does what's right". They all do what is politically expedient. I don't care if it's Trump or Biden. The real difference between the two is Trump puts himself before party whereas Biden puts party first. Neither puts country first. It's all about what advances their politics and maintains power.

Just checking been a tough couple days and finally now checking on the news. Looks like tonight is the night. Ukrainian airspace is being closed and civilian flights are pulling u-turns to leave. Also ABC is reporting Russian military command is heading towards their command center.

So your answer is to ratchet up hostilities... not cool them off?
Are we suppose to be afraid to do what is in our national security interest because we might ruffle Putin's feathers? If you think this is the end of Russian's expansion plans your head is full of oatmeal.
