Why? Sounds like he is a terrible human who got caught in an inappropriate situation that almost cost him his job. Not the kind of guy I'd be siding with.
Well it's a lot of rumor mill material to try to chase him away. None of the rumor mill would have gotten out if Tank had run out of bounds and they beat Bama. So in this case, I am not calling him terrible as I don't know how much is true. I am happy though as this is easy for us to recruit against next year.

I think a lot of Fulky's shortcomings have to do with the fact that he hasn't improved at all since his all SEC season. His game is predictable. He has a small array of moves that everybody can anticipate if you've watched him enough. Teams figured out how to guard him and he hasn't done anything to overcome it. He never developed an outside shot. Never developed a perimeter game.
I don't know what to think. Is it COVID multiple times and injuries that just didn't let him progress. He actually regressed over the past 2 years, he just isn't as aggressive and seems to have not gotten stronger over the past 2 years. He had potential, but seems to have gone backwards.

He was likely never going to be NBA good, but he's college good. SEC preseason 1st team. 1,000pts and over 500 rebounds. His field goal percentages his junior and senior years were great (4th all time for UT in a single season his Jr. year, has the 5th highest career fg % going into this season). Has appeared on Wooden and Lute Olson Award watch lists.

He has single-handedly won us big games in his career - like when he dropped 27 with 6rb @ #6 Kentucky in the comeback win (National Player of the Week). The only UT player to score more in Rupp is Chris Lofton (31). Players that "were never that good," don't do things like that.

Just this season he was on a tear, having big games against UNC, Colorado, Texas Tech, and finally #6 AZ when he dropped 24pt 10rb (SEC player of the week).

Then he got Covid, and it was almost a month before he scored 10pts again. Something he did in 6/10 games pre-Covid and 1/11 games post-Covid. He started 10/10 games pre-Covid; 4/11 post-Covid. Averaged 25.7 min pre-Covid; 19.36 min post-Covid.

No, Fulky isn't NBA good. But he's a damn good college basketball player with a damn good career - don't let changing baselines/selective memory/revisionism make you think otherwise. Covid has 100% affected his production.

To be fair I think regress is the wrong word. Because when Fulky came to UT the style of play was totally different, both in the SEC and for Barnes. So is it Fulky regressing or him trying to play in a new offense that doesn't really focus on or highlight his talent?

Cause to be fair I don't think Grant would have the same sort of numbers he did here playing in this guard heavy deep ball shooting offense we've moved to.

Did basically that exact route ( except Grand Canyon) with my family when I was 15 and my brother was 12. Was incredible but lots of driving. I think it would be awesome for kids around 9-10 and older but those younger kids might be a struggle in vehicle for that long.
Yea I’m starting to think so too.

The offense shifted to the strength of his players. He has shooters now (not many makers though) and he runs the offense through them. When Fulky joined his ran his offense through the guys who would get dirty and weren't afraid of contact.

I don't mind his lack of jump shooting or trying to change to be something he's not offensively. My biggest complaint is that he just doesn't rebound well enough. He seems to rarely box out and get position and is more willing to jump and tap balls rather than secure them for a rebound. If he rebounded as well as Santi or James with his size he would be pulling down 8 or more a game I think, but instead he's a career 4 a game guy. Even in his best season he wasn't getting over 6 on average. For a 6'8" to 6'9" guy that isn't a stretch jump shooting big that's not good enough to me.

Agreed. Tapping the ball out is fine on occasion. He does it almost every time. UT needs to find a more aggressive, strong body down low that controls the paint. In this system, that person doesn't need to be a big scorer. Just clean the boards, block shots, and disrupt.

That is not Fulkerson. I like Fulky's high shot when he takes it. And, I believe he could do much more. But for whatever reason, he 'disappears' at times.

Okay, so I just sat with the arrogant self righteous arsehole doc that some other posters were talking about.
My wife and I go to the monthly wine tasting at our country club. We got there a little late and wre seated at a table with this GI doc. He is the poster child for entitled pushy knowitall docs.
I played golf with he and his buddies once and swore never again. Well, at the wine tasting, he said that they are taking a once a month golf trip and I needed to go with them…
I have never been so happy to be covering a UT Arlington baseball game Friday and Dallas Jackals rugby game Saturday. Whew, the next trip is Memorial Day weekend and my wife saved me with “family coming in town”

As he is droning on and on, I realized that outside of my partners, I really don’t hang out with other doctors. It hit me hard why I don’t…
😳
GI docs full of ****. Lol. GI is probably my least favorite sub specialty

Are you agreeing or disputing what I'm saying...

Cause Barnes & staff are recruiting these players so it's not just a matter of shifting to strength of his players. It's been an intentional move with how they have recruited and who they have taken for transfers.

Pretty much the worst possible update to the situation. Thanks for the prayers guys. It’s a rough time for my whole family.

Sorry to hear that man. A lot of times cancer can be very aggressive and spreads early in the disease course. Lung primary with liver spread is common. Lots of new treatments for lung cancer today though, more than ever.

Also my plug for people to get your cancer screenings!

It's super crazy how every time an AD wants to fire a coach (and maybe skimp on some money), that coach becomes the worst human being since Hitler lol. What a coincidence.

Has any of this actually been proven? Not flaming. Legit question

I'm not even specifically referring to the girl issue. Losing two coordinators, including a well respected DC who took a $400K pay cut to get out, not to mention player defection, none of that gives you a hint that maybe he ain't a top tier guy?

That says more than anything else being thrown out there.

What sucks is we finally saw it again vs Arizona then he got covid again. It’s like each time he and JJJ find their game they get hurt or sick. Olivia was starting to become the player Barnes always said he would be then gets hurt. Always makes me sick for kids when that stuff happens
Agree

He seems to have adapted to shooting the 3 ball just fine. He would have gotten his one way or another.

Yeah, don't think Grant would have vanished on this team. But he would have gotten some of his from behind the arc for sure, his last season he was averaging 11 FGA and 7 FTA, with only 1 3 attempt a game. The team that year was shooting 41 2pt attempts, 19 3pt attempts and 20 fta this year those numbers are 35 2pt attempts, 26 3pt attempts and just 9 fta

I just don't think it's 100% Fulky regressing, the style of offensive play is different than when he had his best year scoring.

Agreed. Urban Meyer was safe in Jacksonville after getting caught with his hand in the cookie jar…literally and figuratively. Losses piled up and so did the negative stories.

I mean it’s a loaded state. Speaks to his talent so no it’s not weird. UGA will miss some in recruiting sometimes too. Hopefully they missed bad on their eval of this kid and we get a star. I think we got two gems in this guy and Pearce. Finally got a couple twitched up guys on the edge. Outside of Young we don’t have any of that.
