I’m perfectly fine with someone giving their opinion that Brady is the GOAT. What I don’t get is saying Brady is the GOAT and there’s no arguments against it. There are plenty of arguments both ways. Personally, I’m fine calling him the GOAT, but it’s not because of super bowl wins. Those are a nice cherry on top but that’s just as much because of the team as it was him.

I forget where I saw the stats but I saw a total stats analysis of Brady vs Peyton and then another analysis of if Peyton played as many games/seasons in the postseason as Brady… and the stats were nearly identical. Brady still slightly edged him out I think in completions and yardage… but Peyton had more Passing TDs and rushing TDs/yardage. When it came to regular season stats… Peyton won almost every stat category if they would have played the same amount of regular season games.

Now, the reason I still lean Brady, is because he was able to play that long. That’s not by accident. Brady had better luck then Peyton because of Peyton’s neck injury.. but Brady really took care of himself and his workout/nutrition and competitive make up is what allowed him to play that long. Have to give credit where it’s due.

Elway, Marino, Kelly vs Eli, Rivers, Roethlisberger

1983 = 636 games, 2 SB wins, 148k career passing yards, 957 career passing TDs
2004 = 729 games, 4 SB wins, 184k career passing yards, 1205 career passing TDs

I think Kelly is the weak link for the '83 class just didn't play as long and the career numbers for that group are down because of it. Rivers finished his career with better numbers than Marino, only played in 2 more games as well. Pretty big indicator of how much the game has changed since the 80s/90s

When he “DECIDED”? 😏 This was before real free agency and Jerry let Jimmy do his thing. Built Jimmy’s team his way and that was building a deep roster and playing physical on both sides of the ball. Backups like Jimmie Jones and Tony Tolbert were barely discernible from the starters in front of them. It was built around wearing the other team down with Emmitt and Jimmy knew the TYPE of OL that worked in that direction. Both Larry Allen and Deion arrived at the tail end after Jimmy already left. I stated at the time that the Cowboys could have won a SB with Steve Buerlein. But they don’t win multiple without Troy. Not claiming Elway, Rodgers or even Favre status as a passer for him…but he wasn’t simply a game manager. He had to take a backseat to Emmitt for it to work towards the design, but they don’t beat the Niners to make that first SB without Troy picking them apart.

Kelly did lose two years in the USFL;)

If your personal GOAT is one of these then I can completely understand why you'd mention them. Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Brett Favre, Dan Marino, John Elway, Johnny Unitas, or Joe Montana

That's 8 QBs that I feel like objectively should be in the debate. And there are kids that have grown up watching in the 2000s that will be talking about Philip Rivers, Big Ben, and Eli Manning... (also that 2004 QB draft class is hands down the GOAT, no debate to be had there)

Agree. There is no GOAT in a sport that relies on so many others to be successful.

It was Rivers, Volek didn't come in until the end. And oddly enough Peyton showed up 400 yards, 3 TDs but turnovers killed the Colts 2 picks and 1 fumble versus just the 1 INT by Rivers.

Outdueled at the end by the QBs in the game. Volek led the Chargers to the go ahead TD and Manning sputtered at the Chargers 7 and turned over on downs.

Adding those 2 years in...(helps some, still not much closer though)

1983 = 672 games, 2 SB wins, 158k career passing yards, 1040 career passing TDs
2004 = 729 games, 4 SB wins, 184k career passing yards, 1205 career passing TDs

Had the 2 picks, yes; still, D has to shut down a SD O with no Tomlinson...they didn't. Rivers was 14-19 for 264, 3 TDs and an Int before he went out...Volek came in and was 3 of 4 for 46...that's 17-23 for over 300 between the two. Manning threw for over 400 and 3 TDs.

Again, no D. Chargers rushed for 100, and threw for over 300. Marvin also had a fumble as Indy was driving to maybe go up 14-0.

A terrible loss, yes; but, nowhere near getting outdueled by Billy Volek. Sarcasm, b?

The SB loss to the Saints was it for me, he had one of his best playoffs going into that. Was over 300 yards and had tossed a TD, then the defense folded in the 2nd half giving up 18 points. Still even with that the score was 24-17 and all Reggie Wayne has to do is run his full route, instead he stops and watches Porter return the INT for 6 to ice the game.
