Would you want Bruce Pearl back? [Pearl discussion — merged]

Guys just let the season play out, jeez. We had a tough start to SEC play and our team still hasn't gelled yet.

We are 17 games in with 13 to go, we're past "not gelled". The team is what it is. Great defense, very offensively challenged vs teams they can't just massively out talent.

Never coming back, but you have to think we would've been to a final four by now if he could've stayed.

We would’ve been postseason banned for 3 years and also banned from all off-campus recruiting during that time. We would’ve been so bad that everyone would’ve wanted him fired anyway.

How many teams come together the last 2-3 weeks of the BBall season and make a run? Look at 2019 Auburn as an example. They were meh in the regular season but turned it on in the SEC and NCAA Tournament.

One or two a year out of 350 teams isn't a good example.

Ugh, this happens all of the time. Already 3 teams have been listed, we could keep going. How many 8 seeds, 5 seeds, etc. make the Final Four?

Usually about 1 a year. So literally hundreds of other teams don't flip a switch and start playing completely different than they have all season and one or two do.

Bruce had me following basketball again. Those were some fun teams to watch. I will always be thankful for him to wake people up to UT basketball.

At the same time those years are gone, we turned the page a while ago and when Barnes retires, we will have a good list of coaches to choose from including many from the Barnes coaching tree.

Correlation is not causation. Pretty well known that he had nothing to do with either violation. To gloss over this fact is intellectually dishonest.

"If you lie down with dogs...", well, you know the rest.

Honestly, though, I do think Cal has likely curbed the amount of illicit activity since his time at Memphis. Kentucky's national brand and historical significance provides him an elemental advantage he didn't necessarily have at UMass or Memphis. UK sort of recruits itself in the sense that Cal doesn't have to delve into the same depths of seedy recruiting tactics he did in other stops in order to stay competitive.

But you speak of intellectual dishonesty, I think it's a little intellectually dishonest, or perhaps blissfully naive to believe that Cal had zero knowledge of anything going on at either of his previous two stops. It's probably also intellectually dishonest to believe the Camby and Rose incidents were isolated and not actually just the larger scale and sloppier episodes in a sordid history of impropriety.

Barnes spent longer at #1 here than Pearl ever did.
It’s great but what does it mean if we can’t handle business in March. Barnes hopefully pulls the boys together for a run this year. Even pearl didn’t make the final 4. Id love to see Barnes have a sweet 16 run this year. We will have to shoot the ball well and figure out the offense to do it.
