speaking of fixed

watch the replays around 1:15

why did he drop his hand? while turning his head? then just takes an obvious dive.

No...he knocked that dudes head off. He faked low and Woodley dropped his hand and Jake sent him to neverland.

Edit...well after reading other more knowledgeable posts after this..I suppose it was a dive. If that is obviously true though that Paul has been paying guys to dive...why the crap is Vegas taking bets on his fights.

I know a former Memphis basketball player (played before Penny's time) who knows Penny, and he said that he has a big ego. I am shocked to hear that Penny basically runs the program without any oversight. It has come out that the AD Laird Veach has no real authority over the basketball program. I would guess that is going to change with pressure from big time donors.
Sounds like they really need to clean house there if the AD is that powerless. That is a big reason for concern.

From a very reliable poster in Memphis on VQ:

I have known Penny for a long time and I don't know what to say. He has always been a person who had a heart for people and it is hard for me to believe that he intentionally put the players in danger. I am hoping that what I am hearing is not true. Penny is a good person and is taking a lot of HEAT. I need to step back and maybe be more objective. A lot of the big money boosters are very embarrassed. Once again I just do not know what to say.

The local Memphis media has held Penny accountable. There’s a lot of people disappointed with Penny and his lack of awareness.

Yeah could also be the case. Woodley taking this on short notice was also a terrible idea too.

Jake's not a scrub by any means, you can tell him and Logan both are getting legit coaching with boxing. I just think neither is in it to climb the ladder for the sport and are mostly using it with their fame to turn a profit (which more power to them).

1. Because Twitter.
2. Ballers just want to play ball, should be the gut reaction. But to some, everything's a "statement".. seent it😖
3. Because Twitter.

I agree they should play either way. Who cares if someone test positive, especially the d-1 athletes who have almost zero % chance of having issues.

It is dumb, just play.

Wilder would need to face brawlers, any legit boxers would have him swinging at air & sucking wind by the 6th round.
Maybe but he has the touch of death in the realm of Tyson. Some believe a better puncher than Tyson. The guy is 42-2-1 with 41 KO's. Not many can withstand his power.

100%

They find these guys that get spit out of the UFC. Not necessarily on hard times, but looking around for what they'll have to do next. Then he gets them paid via contract, with points on the PPV money. On top of that, he basically tells them he doesn't care how they lose. So the opponent can figure out a creative way to put money on when/how they'll lose. Then they never have to work again.

Askren all but said aloud that he was paid more than he ever made in the UFC, and will ever make, to take the fight and lose.

It's really weird. It's like watching two rich kids get to play out some elaborate fantasy, while being enabled by everyone. Strange.

There are plenty of fighters that would take either of the Paul's heads off for free. Just for love of the sport, or the publicity, or because they're flat out crazy. The Paul brothers avoid those guys completely.
Well ok then...

And without googling the only "name" he's fought gave him the 2 losses and 1 draw.

I just don't know if there are enough HWs in the sport right now for this era to have the same sort of legacy as the eras of old.

I think the top guys today would be able to fight with the greats of the past. But I don't think Fury, Joshua, or Wilder would have the same sort of records they do now if they had been fighting with some of the greats back in the day.

Tyson Fury is a great HW, but he's also not fought that many known names. Not sure he would have made it through the 90s as a HW without getting KO'd a few times.

That era (the 90s) was the golden era of HW boxing imo.

David Tua
Donovan Ruddock
Tommy Morrison
Oliver McCall
George Foreman (his return)
Michael Moorer
Riddick Bowe
Mike Tyson
Lennox Lewis
Evander Holyfield

Probably half that list could have put Fury to sleep within 3 rounds...maybe more if he fought 'em all in their prime.
Big John Tate or gtfo.

Not to derail the movie thread, but after living through the recruiting cycle on Volnation for the past dozen years or so (thanks @Freak ) I was wondering if we shouldn't have a permanent thread of required reading understanding how the recruiting process works, not only for FF members that wander over, but also for everyone in general as the rules continue to change around the transfer portal, etc. Something that shows who counts against initial counters, the fact that transfer players don't actually sign anything they just enroll, etc.? Thought it might be a good informational thread people could use and be pointed to in hopes of better understanding. Just a thought.
Thanks for volunteering to do this. Very nice of you. You can @ me when it's ready. TIA.
