Pressure of a big job makes you cut corners. I don't know Penny but he's never struck me as a super ethical person to begin with. I've always considered him more or a snake oil salesman in his aau coaching career.

I know a former Memphis basketball player (played before Penny's time) who knows Penny, and he said that he has a big ego. I am shocked to hear that Penny basically runs the program without any oversight. It has come out that the AD Laird Veach has no real authority over the basketball program. I would guess that is going to change with pressure from big time donors.

Not to derail the movie thread, but after living through the recruiting cycle on Volnation for the past dozen years or so (thanks @Freak ) I was wondering if we shouldn't have a permanent thread of required reading understanding how the recruiting process works, not only for FF members that wander over, but also for everyone in general as the rules continue to change around the transfer portal, etc. Something that shows who counts against initial counters, the fact that transfer players don't actually sign anything they just enroll, etc.? Thought it might be a good informational thread people could use and be pointed to in hopes of better understanding. Just a thought.
Nice thought but they wouldn't read it. Kind on like the fine print stuff you have to click "I agree" for to get into a new website or program.

Honestly just the COVID backlash could be enough to push him out.

The fact he lied about it to get his squad into MSG is pretty damn shady.

Local media is absolutely flabbergasted that he admitted he hadn't really thought about vaccinated players since September. It was the number one priority for every college basketball coach to get through the season. Sucess depends on getting that done along with the costs of canceled games.

Honestly Tillman should go pro, especially if he has a combine invite.

WR is a position where a good season & strong combine will make you an early pick. More risk coming back too, if he has a bad year cause of more attention or even an injury his stock will drop.
I think Tillman could improve his draft stock a ton by returning. I would guess he's currently about 6th round grade, but I could see him working up to a 3rd if he improves and has another good year.

The homer in me wants to light your ass up for this...but the realist in me knows you're not wrong. The fact both Jennings & Callaway went undrafted probably has Tillman undervalued right now.

He comes back and is the leading WR for a Hendo Heisman campaign then he'll for sure be improving his stock.

Penny has some backing from bigger donors there. If Penny is a bust it's a bad look and Memphis knows the pipeline of Memphis players could dry up some. If it happens there will be some infighting between the factions. Those that want Penny gone have been given the ammo they need but that move won't come without a price, Memphis will take a serious hit.

I don't think he will get fired, but it appears there are some influential people there that are embarrassed by what happened.

Hiring Penny was always going be interesting when things got tough for Memphis' favorite son. Depending on this team's success at the end of the season, I can see Penny moving on himself at some point.

He's telling some kids around here that know him he's going to UT. Hearsay and probably inadmissible in court.

Unfortunately, Tyson Fury would beat most all those guys listed. It's a different era. He's too big and too skilled. Mike Tyson couldn't even touch his head. He would be like a child in there. Watch the one round old Larry Holmes decided to box on his toes verses Mike. Fury could do that twice as well for 12 rounds with half a foot more size. Not a good match. Lennox Lewis is the only guy I think that could give him problems and that's not a given. Everyone else would have nothing but a punchers chance. He's just too big and too good. Now if those 90s guys had the same size then it's a different story. But they didn't. And this is coming from a guy who is NOT a big Fury fan. I like Wilder to be honest. However, I'm not blind so Fury is the better fighter.
LeBron versus Jordan versus Bird versus Oscar ... yada yada yada. It's impossible to evaluate skills and talent across generations. Hell, Joe Louis or Rocky Marciano could be part of this conversation.

Fun to talk about though.

I think it embarrassing enough where he's told it isn't working out, especially considering him not delivering on the court. How that shakes out I'm not sure. I think he'll dig in, I don't think Memphis wants it to get ugly with Penny and Penny knows it.
