I don't remember hearing "pick six" in the '90s. Maybe I didn't really pay attention, outside of John Ward or UT games on tv.I don't recall John Ward ever saying it. After John, I stopped paying as much attention to the words. IMO, very few could paint a picture with words like John could.
Interestingly enough though. During John Wards time broadcasting, the other "best" broadcasters were announcing games too. SEC was chocked full of great announcers in the day. Obviously they were biased towards their own team, but man there were a lot of great ones. John was obviously the best of the best though. Unbiasedly speaking of course.
Ignored that dude real quick.Actually, the argument was not about who has the most money and resources wins the championships. It was about this spiraling out of control mercenary coaches, ADs, and players that is going to get even worse than the NFL....because they have limits. Fans of college football, as opposed to professional football, are already losing interest. If you like it....fine. Some want just some other minor league NFL. But to act like you "know" how this will turn out and already declaring it "good" is a little premature.
As far as the "passive aggressive condescension" which was a result of your "hyper aggressive condescension" because you disagree with others conclusions (because you care so much about others caring so much)...
"fairy tale nonsense"
"noble players"
"nostalgic silliness"
"stupid and selfish"
Yeah, your condescension was met with the appropriate amount of "bless your heart" it deserved.
It's like I see every potential landmine when stuff like this happens, but honestly this NIL being used to pay for play deal was easy to see coming...it was absolutely inevitable considering the inherent corruption that rules in CFB.Because we see what we want to see about the future and refuse to deal with potential problems?
Jeez man...they are buying players..it ain't that hard to figure out.I don't understand the appeal of Texas A&M. They had a mediocre season propped up by an unlikely win against Alabama. They don't have a strong legacy of winning either in their overall program or through Jimbo (who's only had one really relevant, good team that I can recall). Their military-centric culture would likely be a huge turnoff for a lot of these players, and they are still considered "little brother" in their own state. Is it really just the money they're connecting players with through NIL?
Someone help me see what I'm missing here...
They literally dominated everyone all year.Plot twist: They had to take Cincy because there was no other way to justify taking UGA with a SOS in the mid 50s losing 'at home' in a beat down to a 1 loss BAMA team in their conference title game. Memba when late losses mattered because those happened after a team gained experience? Memba when winning your conference mattered? Memba when not getting blown out mattered? Memba when SOS mattered?
In all seriousness, how does the CFP Committee justify UGA without leaning into the SEC brand as the reason? I don't think they really can.
Probably someone on ESPN. They were the first to call a game ending run scored in baseball a "walk off."I don't remember hearing "pick six" in the '90s. Maybe I didn't really pay attention, outside of John Ward or UT games on tv.
I was just curious if anyone remembers it in the early 2000's or before? I assumed it was a phrase used for decades, but I just don't remember it. . . maybe just a few years before "kick six".
Herbstreit is such a loser
Fight... Fight... Fight!
I would bet that Cade is skipping the bowl game.
VQ Podcast this AM, bowl game talk....Wasn't it reported before Vandy he would be out due to injury?
-HubbsLooks like Tennessee is going to have a full roster at this point, with the exception of Alontae and Cade....not hearing a lot of vibes of guys wanting to opt out
I’m curious why there’s no discussion about setting up a G5 playoff? I’d watch. The committee absolutely would have left them out if OSU had won the B12. There was literally no one else possible for that 4th spot besides ND, who Cincinnati beat. The committee is hugely biased against G5 (sometimes with good reason), and Herbstreit himself has been hugely biased against G5, so that's a really odd statement coming from him.
True and they touched on that but didn't see any need in quoting that part of conversation since most here are very aware of that !And both Cade & Alontae are hurt, not just sitting out for no reason. Alontae could be healthy by the bowl but that’s not 100% certain and he’s wanting to focus on the Senior Bowl. I honestly can’t blame him for that.
And we’re the ones accused of living in fairytale land. It's like I see every potential landmine when stuff like this happens, but honestly this NIL being used to pay for play deal was easy to see coming...it was absolutely inevitable considering the inherent corruption that rules in CFB.
This may be right, but I am not liking it.They literally dominated everyone all year.
Easily justifiable.
Otherwise you kick them out for who? #5 ND?
I can't see an argument of ND being in over them.
UGA:
3 ranked wins
9 wins over bowl teams
+30(!) PPG
ND:
0 ranked wins
5 wins over bowl teams
+17 PPG
It's not even close. Both quality and margins.
Even Vegas, who outs their money where their mouth is, has them with barely the 2nd best odds. That's what it comes down to. Would you bet against UGA to beat ND? The #6 team (whoever that was)?

Gotta disagree. It's his sole competitive advantage. It's served him as well as any Clemson fan could have ever wished beyond their wildest imagination. Think you gotta live and die by that. And besides, it's a tough sell to recruits when you turn you back on the entire cultural foundation you built it on. JmoDabo's gonna live and die with the promoting from within philosophy. Unsustainable. He should go after the best possible candidate not the most comfortable one.
Agree to disagree I guess. I can't imagine this guy being even close to the defensive prowess of Venables.Gotta disagree. It's his sole competitive advantage.
