Never Forget:
December 7, 1941

My Grandfather was there that day. The only time I ever saw the man cry was when I was there visiting with him back in the mid '80's.
Amazing stories from him about that Day!

Dad was stationed there for 6 months right after basic in Pensacola. All he could do was shake his head when I asked about it.

It's already happening. Bryce Young got over 7 figures. Ewers at Ohio State got $3mil. High 5 star players are getting $1mil.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg is my point. It’s short-sighted to see this as just a magnification of the traditional bag game. Let’s see if Alabama can keep up once all the players are getting paid substantial incomes. Things aren’t going to move on a straight line from where they are now.

Long story short.........

family from Japan moved to Jackson, TN when I was about 14 and did some business with my dad, and his daughter was in my class. Family's grandfather was Zero Fighter pilot that attacked Pearl Harbor that day. They had us over for dinner one night............and we listened to their grandfather and my grandfather talk about that day from their own perspectives. It was one of the most memorable moments of my life.

That is crazy.

It was always a money based arms race…. How do you think we were so good during the 90’s….. it sounds like we are getting our ducks in a row right now….. elite players are going to get paid…. We have to offer more than just money as well.
Back then the major players were all around the same range though. It has gotten out of hand.

The problem with these arguments is this is the very beginning and that 3 mil to Ewers has been lost with nothing to show for it for Ohio State. Yeah folks NIL money is flowing now, but when the donors get burned a few times by a recruit jumping ship, these waterfalls will dry up. Not completely dry but more along the lines of be on this billboard for 20 grand not a million.

I honestly thought NIL would be about the strength of a fanbase buying merch, and was comfortable that TN would be ok. Never envisioned that it would be about ultra-rich people buying players without salary caps. The NFL places "reasonable" limits on pay, and corporate sponsorships are generally limited by the business value of the sponsorship. NIL, so far, doesn't appear to have either a salary cap or meaningful business value (in some cases). Can't believe it will stay this way long term.
Honest question because I think you are a pretty sharp guy..How did you not see this coming?

Okay just to weigh in for a minute. I've followed the NIL stuff pretty closely for awhile now. The Ewers example isn't valid in how it's being used most times. Ewers biggest NIL deal is exactly that, for his NIL on autographed memorabilia etc. He also has a beverage deal I believe which was from the state of Texas. In fact the reason he jumped from high school early was because the state of Texas wouldn't allow him to receive NIL benefits as a high school kid.

All that to say, there's no business deal in Columbus, or Ohio for that matter to be considered. There's no OSU donor getting burned by him leaving OSU. His deal is exactly what the expectation of the NIL opportunity is all about. He's basically paid for his autograph rights, which are valid at whatever university he plays at. In fact the autograph company (GTSM) is located in California.

I know we're having a lot of discussions about paying kids to go to a particular school, and I'm not naive to think that isn't happening, or that UT shouldn't be doing the exact same. However, Ewers doesn't seem to fall into this particular category.
Okay, end rant.

Plus...from an admissions standpoint I believe the Transfers need to complete finals before they can confirm eligibility at their new schools. So we could get "commits" but I think the staff is willing to wait on those to confirm the people they pursue are actually going to be eligible. (but this is just speculation on my part)
That's a good point, I hadn't really thought about verifying eligibility after finals/end of semester.

Be interesting to follow. I still maintain that the more NIL will directly correlate to recruiting ranking. Which schools pay the most will get the higher ranked classes.

Does anyone know anything about Jimmy C. And Jimmy H? I figured they’d be prime candidates for transfers, but they haven’t so far.

It makes me wonder if we’re going to take a couple of WR in the portal.

Oh I fully expect it to level out some but the richer schools, schools with high roller boosters will continue to funnel huge amounts to the top, highest rated recruits. Don't think for a minute there won't be bidding wars between schools. It's already happening.
