Contract Extension for Coach Heupel?

Listen, this may be a little premature to talk about, but if CJH holds serve against Vandy and South Alabama he will deserve an extension IMO.

With a 7-5 record in his first season, after surviving the huge number transfers and going through the process of implementing a new system to the program, he has proven he belongs here.

When the season is over we ought to make a statement that this is our guy, and you can get on the bus now or get flattened by it.
Ditto, this guy knows what he is doing.

Why don't we let CJH and his staff move up from 12th in the conference in recruiting - let's have them focus on that here in his first year. Plus, he just signed a six year contract, - he doesn't need an extension.

It's way too soon.

We don’t have the best track record with extensions. Too soon.

No contract extension should be talked about until after 3rd season and if he is improved the game or somehow magically wins a NC next year then yes extend but if not then it shouldn't be mentioned.

HELL NO. UT needs to stop extending coaches contracts before they have actually earned it, and Heupel had a long initial contract anyway.

No. Schools are getting burned left and right by the premature extension
Schools? Who cares about "schools"? I care about THIS school, and we've got a very well documented history of getting burned by the premature extension of a head coaches' contract.

Honestly folks that post on here should maybe "sleep on the idea" before throwing out a new thread. I'm almost disappointed this topic wasn't introduced right after we beat Bowling Green. Or maybe the OP is CJH's agent. You'll know his agent is angling for a raise when you begin to hear Heup's name associated with rumors of school X being interested in talking with him.
I was almost expecting CJH name being brought up for an Oklahoma look because Lincoln Riley mismanaged Rattler/Williams in the 2nd half Saturday against Baylor and ticked off a few OU fans. (for those that don't know, Riley pulled Caleb Williams when he was struggling against Baylor and down by 10, put in Rattler who was average, then plugged C Williams back in who promptly drove OU for a touchdown - but it was too late).

Mr. Fulmer, I know it's mid season and all, but that awesome coach you hired is no longer on staff. So, No!

So we give a guy a contract extension because he meets expectations!? Nope.

He has beaten the teams we should except for Pitt and lost to the teams we should except for Kentucky. Pitt could be debatable (if we should have won or not) but I believe if we play them now, we beat them.

WOW....wish I had a job where I could get a raise for just simply doing my job.

I agree with most others. Let's see the trajectory of flight this time next year and possibly into year three before we start talking extensions and raises.

So you can do and exceed expectations in your first few months with less and some inferior tools at your job? Folks it’s been a damn hard and long ass time since we actually had a real coach. Pay him protect him and enjoy what comes after.

Ummm 🧐 too early for that.. Yes his first year has been better than what I expected BUT maybe next year when we beat FL, GA, Bama, hell some team that naysayers say we’re not supposed to and get more Dubs than this year… Basically it’s a no for me for now..

We aren’t beating FL, Ga and Bama next year let’s just hope we are within 20 or 15 points of them. Florida is more likely of the three that we upset but I still wouldn’t put money on it

No, too early. Absolutely zero reason to do this now. CJH has a good contract and I don't think he's going anywhere. CJH has done a good job in his first season and could very well finish 8-5 with a bowl win. However, we need to see at least another season or two of progress before an extension. He will have to improve in recruiting and I think he will. Some of the 2023 & 2024 skill players have to be taking a hard look at TN with the offense we run under CJH. We all understand the mess CJH walked into so the fact that there are 10 SEC teams currently ranked ahead of us in recruiting for this cycle is not surprising.

Let's not make the same mistake Fulmer made in rewarding Pruitt prematurely after an 8-5 season in 2019.

GO VOLS!

Too early, give it another year, maybe two depending on next year results. Besides, we've yet to see how he can recruit...that's an important equation in regards to our getting back to relevance.
