'21 Recruiting Forum: Official Ole Miss Pregame/Game Thread

Couple of things:

1️⃣ - Let’s not put too much stock in the outcome of tonight’s game, as it pertains to trying to perceive Heupel’s future in Knoxville. He can lose this game and still be a successful coach here, lasting 6+ seasons. He can win this game and flame out in 3-5 years (Butch beat USCe in year 1 & beat Florida/Georgia in year 4 — Pruitt beat Auburn in year 1 and had an 8 game winning streak at one point).

2️⃣ - I hope we play well. It’s that simple. Win or lose, I just don’t want us to come in and be mental midgets. Don’t lay an egg.

3️⃣ - I hope, if it’s a close game, we don’t have a reason to be 😡 at the refs when this one is over. I hope the refs are practically invisible tonight.

It does mean 💩. I think we can all agree, Tennessee for the last decade has lost a lot of games between the ears before the ball was kicked off.

I agree completely, Tiyon at full strength is an advantage for the Vols. I also believe there is a path to victory if he doesn’t play a snap.

Each week is a one game season. Plenty of teams have figured out how to win games like this when in Tennessee’s position…depth issues and a couple of key guys banged up.

You walk in that stadium tonight convinced you can win, and the odds increase immensely that you will.
Ok...you've convinced me..losing your second most important player on offense is no big deal and will in no way impact the result of this game..because...

They win with their minds...

🤭

Yall doing chores on Fall Saturdays....you're doing it all wrong! You can do your chores when you get to the afterlife.

🙄 - the only thing worse than your schtick may be your reading comprehension skills. Tiyon is very important. I said him at full strength would be an advantage for the Vols. My point is that even if he doesn’t play, we aren’t doomed. But you go ahead and continue being a sarcastic, pessimistic turd. Enjoy the game.

Need to come out hot and never take your foot off the gas pedal. Keep the team and the stadium bouncing off the rev limiter.

Overall I think this game comes down to turnovers and penalties.

UT 52
MISS 48

Not trying to be a downer, but are we a little too confident? If Evans plays and is healthy, we got a game. If he is down and Small is limited on carries, I just don’t see it.

Genuinely curious, have you watched Ole Miss play this year?

Vandy would put 50 on the Ole Miss defense.
Ok, that’s an overreach. Bama didn’t even put up 50, neither did any team other than Arky. Held Louisville to less than 30 and they score over 30 in their other games. Not saying they are good but the Vandy comment is not realistic.

I'm more concerned Arkansas's very solid defense couldn't stop them. That is worrisome. We have a decent defense, but our stops have masked some of the big yards and plays we've given up. It's a defense that could appear really good or really poor game to game due to the high risk/high reward nature. But OM's offense is one to punish you...they'll go for 4th downs and won't settle for many FGs. We need TOs and to steal possessions.

You are right, more realistic to say that UConn could put up 50 on Ole Miss.

It's been on the table all week that we could be without both rb's.

So I'll be shocked if that's not been accounted for, both in personnel and scheme, in the game plan.

Doesn't guarantee anything, but I don't think we'll be unprepared.

And ole Miss's defense isn't great, so matchup wise, it's not an absolute killer. It's less than ideal for sure.

I think being full strength in the o line is huge. And you can run the ball in this offense a myriad of ways, with all kinds of different personnel groupings.

So... We'll see what happens.

Have no doubt we will be prepared but there is a drop in talent and experience after the top 2. In the totality of a high scoring game, it can make a difference is my point. Having Evans could mean 7 or 10 extra points. And yes we shall see, could be difference between winning 52 to 45 and losing 42 to 45. I have no doubt we score…a lot.
