So you are completely bought in to kiffen when he inherited a good roster and only went 7-5, but knew from day one Butch wasn’t good when he had a couple eight win seasons? And he actually built those rosters. Heup is not perfect but it’s year one. Let’s judge him next year and his third year. He wasn’t left with much in key areas.

I’m not completely bought in to Kiffin either. I’m just saying Tennessee has lost its brand recognition and it heup isn’t the guy then who the hell else will revive it? Kiffin is the best answer

I honestly still can't wrap my head around everything together.

Kiffin literally bolting in the middle of the night - A top tier program hiring a losing community college coach - The weird ride that was the Jones' era - An ****ing revolt over the next almost hire - Mullen skipping - Freaking Bahama Jon basically stealing the plane and heading west - Cornbread's criminal misuse of staff and personal - My God, our own people trying to get us the death penelty in some weird soap opera power struggle..

If you had written even half of this insanity as some work of fiction, you still would've been laughed out of the room. Saying it all is just mind blowing.

If we would have death-penaltied ourselves for 1 or 2 years in there we'd probably still be better off than we are today. It's kind of crazy the string of bad decisions/luck that we've had.

Kiffin might do well here but that bridge wasn’t just burned. It was bombed and the earth underneath it salted. He will never, ever be back here.

Doesn’t happen at big time football programs. They’ll find a way.

He was spared by the UT Administration on the first offense. (This was an Administration thing not a Football thing)

Then got caught with Weed a second time by UTK PD which was the 2nd time with the UTK PD which goes directly to the UT Administration and as a Freshman you don’t have any benefit of the doubt especially when you’ve barely been there.

Not only did this happen it happened within like a month of each other. The kid needed to go.

Promiscuous teenagers in horror movies have better decision making abilities and luck, than us.

Everybody agreed, top-down. He violated UT Code of Conduct and team rules multiple times and had multiple infractions. He wasn't remorseful, didn't learn from his mistakes and didn't seem to care about doing what he needed to do. He was immature and a bad influence and people were sick of his attitude and antics. When he blew zero tolerance, he was gone.

Mays is out, Ollie Lane is starting at guard and Carvin slides to C. Hooker is good to go.
Oof. Man that sucks. I'd rather Cade be out than Coop. We seem pretty awful at run blocking once we have to shuffle things without him. Our one major advantage would seem to be vs their run defense and now...not so sure. Whoever is QB has a lot of slack to pick up. OR I just hope to god the remaining OL sack up and bully these bums.

"Find a way" makes it sound like they HAD to let him go, possibly from outside influence or hard and fast rules. They didn't have to whatsoever. Hype and Co. CHOSE to remove that cancerous spot.

Huge difference.

I know that, 0 doubt. Doesn’t make it not an option, just not a realistic one. But possibly one of very few options to save the program.

Some people are also forgetting in 2007-2009 when some athletes were involved in drug-related robberies. One student died. There were several violent incidents around campus at that time.

There was a lot of pressure on UTPD/KPD and the university to keep the campus safe. Parents were not happy.

The simple question is, "are you here to play football and go to school, or did you sign up for the Dumbass Olympics"

Plenty of kids do stupid things once they get on campus and away from their parents or other influences that keep them out of trouble (or protect them from trouble)

Adding hostility and aggression to a situation in which there are drugs, guns, money doesn't lead to many good places in the long run. Maybe he needed someone holding his hand or keeping tabs on him the whole time. It sucks but he put himself in a bad spot, put his team in a bad spot, and put his coach in a bad spot.

Nobody wants to give up on a kid. Nobody wants to kick out star potential. Unfortunately, there's also a lot of somebodies that don't want to deal with a bunch of BS.

The odds are stacked against him like crazy right now in recruiting. Let him build relationships around here, let this ncaa bs pass and get to 8 or so wins next season, and I bet things will pick up

We really need to buy a QB that can raise our floor to 6 wins, and get us into 8-win territory over a 3 year period. Someone with a B+ arm and decent mobility that can run Heupel's offense. That will lead to consistency that we can build on

Especially from that position. You have a DL or WR messing up, you consider tough love but when the one player in your class…your potential face of the program QUARTERBACK can’t string together consecutive incident free months? That’s supposed to be the young man that LEADS your fortunes and sets a tone for others. Cut it out and dispose.
