BRENT'S PICK
If Cooper Mays were playing in this game, I would like their chances even more. But I don’t think Missouri’s defense is playing very well. They seem to have confusion and some communication issues and they haven’t played an up tempo offense.
But how effective and how fast can Tennessee go with Jerome Carvin at center and Hendon Hooker at quarterback, if he plays. Tempo could be a big advantage for Tennessee on Saturday.
Can they take advantage of it and can they eliminate the self inflicted mistakes?
Defensively, can Tennessee get a pass rush and can they play tighter zone coverage. Missouri loves the middle of the field. Can Tennessee’s defense make it difficult to throw in the middle of the field.
This game has a shoot out feel to it. The Tigers are scoring points, but are also giving up plenty. They will sell out to stop the run. Can Tennessee run it against a crowded line of scrimmage and can they make them pay down the field in the vertical passing game against some man coverage?
Toss up game with lots of points scored. Tennessee still has to show me they can play a clean game against a solid power 5 team.

AUSTIN'S PICK
Tennessee heads into tomorrow’s match up with the Missouri Tigers with so much on the line. For this program to be able to turn the corner just a little bit it has to win games like tomorrow on the road against a comfort bowl opponent.
Missouri is solid a quarterback and they run the ball extremely well but they are also super beatable. They are coming off a loss last week against Boston College.
Hendon Hooker is good to go and last week was a nice moment to build upon. The Tiger defense it’s not very good and Tennessee you should be able to not only run it but also throw it over the top.
If Missouri’s defense was just a little bit better I’m probably taking the Tigers but I think this is a game that Tennessee feels like they can win because these kids have won this game the last couple of years.

ROB'S PICK
I’m pulling the trigger on the Vols to pull a mild upset here but I don’t feel great about. We are not, repeat not, giving this out as Beat Your Bookie special and I’d feel a lot better about it if Cooper Mays was 100%.
That’s because the reason I’m making the pick is that I have a very hard time riding with a Mizzou team whose run defense is as putrid as this one has been and if Cooper were at full speed the Vols would be a lot better equipped to take advantage of it.
Everyone the Tigers has played on a schedule that includes Southeast Missouri and Central Michigan has cracked 200 yards on the ground. I just can’t get past that.
What worries me about this pick is mostly Bazelak and an offense that’s been really efficient on third down and in the red zone.
Tennessee’s run defense has been sound other than at Florida, who will steamroll a lot of people and did Alabama just the week before.
I think Mizzou lacks big playmakers at receiver and if Tennessee can contain Badie they can make them one dimensional.
The offense has to string together some first downs this week to protect the defense and save them for the second half, something that the Tigers run defense should lend a hand with.
TENNESSEE 34, MIZZOU 31

ERIC'S PICK
This is a game Tennessee needs to go out and get. Point blank, you’re better than Missouri overall in my opinion. So go win this football game.
The Tigers employ a talented offense with a good quarterback and senior tailback who have made a lot of noise this year. Missouri will rack up the yards and score some points, in my opinion. But I believe Tennessee’s defense is talented enough to come up with a few stops – creating a turnover potentially.
That can be enough in a game like this, a game that I think can be a shootout.
Tennessee is beat up on the offensive line. Who cares – Tennessee should run the football on them tomorrow. Missouri is that bad defending the run. Hendon Hooker appears to be in line to play, though not guaranteed. He’s clearly Tennessee’s best option right now and let’s see if the Vols can put together four quarters offensively tomorrow.
Originally, I had this total a little higher when I gave my pick for WIVK. I’ve come down a bit, but still have the Vols finding a way defensively to squeeze out a three-point win on the road.

BEN'S PICK
The more I've studied Missouri this week the more Tennessee's chances of winning this game have grown on me. I've leaned in the Vols' favor all week, but my confidence in them has grown since Monday.
It comes down to containing Connor Bazelak and Tyler Badie, and then running the football against an abysmal Tigers rush defense.
Tennessee's ground game is where I think the game is won. There's a little bit of hesitation because of the unlikeliness that Cooper Mays plays and UT hasn't run the ball well without him.
The difference this week is Missouri's defense, however. Yes, it's bad. But what makes it bad is its struggles to communicate calls on the field and get aligned correctly. Josh Heupel's up-tempo offense will have the Tigers' minds tied up like a pretzel and that's where this game will be won by the Vols.
Tennessee 30, Missouri 27

Bowling Green only ran 61 and Banks and Mitchell were splitting time with Beasley and Page - Meaning Mitchell played half the plays just like Banks did.

Again, Mitchell sucks. He literally only has 1 Solo Tackle in 3 games. Plus his pass coverage and closing speed are awful

Yeah I was just providing you the exact number. I agree he’s been disappointing.

What is the data bc the only data I have been able to find stated that sneaks was 19% more successful than shotgun and 13% more successful than under the center runs…. That info may not be accurate so I was curious if anyone had access to what the actual data shows.
I have no idea. I was just clarifying that the op wasnt saying it's impossible to collect the data.

Tough call between very different players. Patterson isn't really a true WR, he's a returner/RB/gadget player who has averaged under 10 yds/catch in the NFL. I just watched a 12 minute YouTube video of his NFL highlights over 8 seasons and there were only about 5-6 downfield passes. Most of them are kick returns or toss sweeps as a RB or flips to him on jet sweeps when he lines up as a WR. I'm not sure how he'd fit in with the offense Heupel wants to run, but he could probably make it work. I think we just need a player like Jennings for the leadership and attitude he brings, along with being a more conventional WR. Either one would certainly improve our current roster.

I think Patterson would feast in this offense. I love Jennings in this offense too though, it’s a tough decision. I’d probably lean towards Jennings because of what you mentioned, the leadership/attitude. Patterson though would be dynamic. He would be a threat to house a screen everytime his number was called and the moment a CB bites too early on that, CP would blow by them on a go route just like Payton did last week.

30A golfers - any course recommendations?

I’ve got Kelly Plantation, Camp Creek and Windswept Dunes lined up. Wanting to add another that I haven’t played. Have hit Shark’s Tooth in the past, might hit it again, but wouldn’t mind trying something new.

Applebees has a great course.

Kind of funny if you think about it... at first, if Donors/UTADMIN had ponied up enough money/support when things started to go sideways and got the right coach and people in place, we probably aren't in this position today and they aren't getting tired of bailing out the UTAD... they went cheap initially and are now literally paying for it...

Donors bailed out UTAD for bad hires-- they didn't make them. UT being cheap started with Hamilton and continued with Hart, supported by Cheek and Joe DiP. A decade of bad decisions by bad ADs-- not bad donors-- put UT in the mess we're in.

what do you do for a living? I’d like to watch you once a week and then meticulously critique you anonymously with several thousand other people on a message board about how you perform a job that most of has never done and none of us have done at that level. I’m sure you’ll be mistake free.

Lmao I’m not a football coach making millions but I can assure you even on my modest salary that I am meticulously critiqued.

Butch was not clear in year 1. That was his best coaching job. Beat a top 11 team and should have beaten UGA. Masterful offensive game plan. Terrible roster.

It was probably clear in year 3 that it wasn't working.

I remember an embarrassing game against Mizzou and a missed bowl game by losing to inferior Vandy. The Oregon game was god awful also but I gave him a pass.

That's because you don't know what you're looking at. Dude can scheme up a team bigly. Play design and playcalling have been on point. I'm excited about what this team would look like with a full roster of scholarship players and a couple years of development with these dudes. I think he'll turn out to be a very good (and maybe potentially great) head coach. Just be patient and understand what you're seeing and put it into proper context.

That is the big positive that butch and others didn’t have. His X’s and O’s Seem on point. His team is completely undisciplined though.

So you are completely bought in to kiffen when he inherited a good roster and only went 7-5, but knew from day one Butch wasn’t good when he had a couple eight win seasons? And he actually built those rosters. Heup is not perfect but it’s year one. Let’s judge him next year and his third year. He wasn’t left with much in key areas.

In game coaching matters and butch lacked that. It was obvious year 1. Heupel shows some positive signs but in game decision making and team discipline are not that.

They've practiced Carvin and Lane at center all year. We just needed to not have to rely on Lane, who had been written off years ago. Moving Carvin over weakens the O-line at two positions. The lack of quality depth was always concerning, and we've had multiple hits. So the more mobile QB is the better option, because these next two games are among our most winnable.

Kiffin already put one of our feet in the grave. Don't need him here to finish the job. I do hope he beats Bama this weekend.

I honestly still can't wrap my head around everything together.

Kiffin literally bolting in the middle of the night - A top tier program hiring a losing community college coach - The weird ride that was the Jones' era - A ****ing revolt over the next almost hire - Mullen skipping - Freaking Bahama Jon basically stealing the plane and heading west - Cornbread's criminal misuse of staff and personnel - My God, our own people trying to get us the death penelty in some weird soap opera power struggle..

If you had written even half of this insanity as some work of fiction, you still would've been laughed out of the room. Saying it all is just mind blowing.
