The rest is history

Watson from there, transition year of Kelly Bryant, then Trevor Lawrence

Aside from the 2001 SEC Championship loss to LSU, Kiffin telling Boyd to kick rocks was the the greatest watershed moment for Tennessee/Clemson. You're welcome, Tigers.
So true… A good QB who wins us 8-9 games for 3 straight years followed by another one to do the same is what we need. All while putting up amazing yards in this offense. It’s possible but gosh we need that dude at QB and we can’t seem to find them.

And to that point, Clemson hadn't been extraordinary in recruiting.

2000 Clemson 33
2001 Clemson 19
2002 Clemson 29
2003 Clemson 43
2004 Clemson 44
2005 Clemson 15
2006 Clemson 14
2007 Clemson 16
2008 Clemson 9
2009 Clemson 36
2010 Clemson 27
2011 Clemson 10
2012 Clemson 20

But to my larger point, they built a foundation on pretty-good (mostly) talent. Lots of depth, dependability. Then they were in a position to top it off with a great QB (Boyd) and they ascended to the highest tier of the sport.

We keep looking at Alabama, but maybe we need to study Clemson.

Their fans used eBay to pay $5000 for lamps for players. It's time for us to overpay for talent. Let's go.

That’s what we need solid players… a few stars and very few misses and we will start to grow.

Found this from a UCLA article. I'm trying to make myself feel better about the QB position in the future. (Tayven Jackson)

“Coach (Chip) Kelly called me today and talked to me about his program and what he sees in me and what he needs,” Jackson recapped. “He told me I reminded him of Marcus Mariota when he coached him from his size to his athleticism to his arm strength and that I can run and do stuff like Marcus did. That was kind of cool."

plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz. college Mariota was one of the best.

Does Tayven actually have his speed? If so, we have our dual threat.

I would LOVE to see one of those eBay transactions!!
There were posts about it in 2006ish or thereabouts. I have searched far and wide. Gone forever.

One day I really do hope that paying for players isn't as taboo and scary to talk about, and we can get a history of how players were compensated under the table. There are a lot of funny stories out there that need to be consolidated. And it's a whole side to the rise and fall of many programs in CFB, and it can't be told correctly (yet).

Two weeks, and this place are going to be crazy. After we beat Tennessee Tech 70 to 0 and Alabama destroys Florida by 28 everyone’s gonna be convinced we’re gonna roll into Gainesville for the win next week.

after our inevitable loss to Florida, this place is going to be ready to burn it to the ground, fire the quarterbacks, fire the staff, and set fire to the couch

gonna be fun to watch it in real time
