I hope this doesn't turn into another JG situation. I haven't been criticizing anything except Milton. I think Heupel wants him to be something he isn't and I understand why, I really do...if the guy was decisive and accurate he would be a Heisman contender...but he's not, and I have said all along he is not.

I was hoping his accuracy issues that we noticed in the Meatchicken film were because of his hand, but he seemed like the same QB last night. I am leaning back towards him not being the guy that is going to take us where we want to go but I will give Hype a chance to coach him up before I completely jump off the JM train.

I'm bummed we didn't get to see Bailey at all. I do think he's going to end up being the best option of the bunch. The sooner he gets some actual minutes in a game (even clean up duty), the better. He has a pretty high ceiling. Milton has a cannon for an arm and can run, but his decision-making and touch leave a lot to be desired. His accuracy is awesome within 25 yards and pretty abysmal (from what I can see) beyond that. I hope I'm wrong, because if he can put it all together, he'll be great, but he wasn't really that close on a lot of his long balls and he holds the ball FOREVER going through his reads. I'd feel a lot better about him if he could anticipate better. He seems to wait for people to come open before he considers throwing the ball.

Who do you think populated the BG defense?

Which one is a real game scenario and which one is a glorified practice?…lol unreal I have to argue this crap on the recruiting board some of you need to go back to the football forum ignorance is bliss over there

Keep in mind im not saying HB might not be a better option, it’s just he hasn’t proven anything yet nor has he proven anything to the coaches yet obviously

HB is the third stringer…

Outside of UGA, any SEC teams losing this week?
Bama, in a huge opening upset after an unexpected poor offensive performance led by a surprisingly lost-looking Young, and a Miami offense that shows up much better than anticipated. Bama's defense shows some frustration and stumbles late. It doesn't help that To'oTo'o leaves in the 2nd quarter after a targeting call.

Oh, why the hell not?

Because if he only hit one of them, it would have been a TD, and the narrative would be different. He only would have needed to have hit one of those for people to get excited about him.

It would've helped dispel the idea that he is not accurate as a passer. They have a little over a week to watch the film and make adjustments. This was always going to be a knock the rust off warm up game. The first real test of this team is next Saturday. They looked well prepared for what they wanted to do vs BG and I fully believe they will be ready for what Pitt will bring to the table as well.

Y'all are hilarious. It was the first game. It's called getting better?? Give the coaches time to develop these guys. Good grief our fans sometimes...

Sorry I came away with more realistic expectations?? We’re not touching Florida. I somehow convinced myself we could. Most say 6 wins and I was at 8-9 for some reason. I’m at 5-6 now, we stink. I’ll reevaluate after we play Pitt.

Is it true to say Milton adds two more dimensions to the offense than Bailey and one more than Hooker?

Hooker keeps the QB run game a threat, but I do not see him offering much in terms of a vertical passing game.

Bailey is one less run read for a defense, and some of the outside throws Milton can make, maybe more difficult for Bailey with his slower release and throwing motion.

Is that fair?
Not necessarily. The read option can be predicated on pulling the ball and throwing a short inside route too. If Milton can't read said option and HB can, then HB brings a dimension that Milton doesn't. HB has no wheels, but his decision-making seems to be better than Milton. The Pitt game will tell me a lot about Milton, because he'll be decidedly less comfortable than he was against BG.

I’m giving him 5 years, that’s plenty. But this year ain’t it unless he has a change of heart on starting QB. Milton is Garbo.

I just made it home from Tennessee and wanted to give my opinion…. First off, please drop the narrative that Harrison Bailey is not given a fair shot…. He was beaten out was not the best QB in camp…. Several fans today on sports talk recommended that Bailey transfer bc we won’t play him here…. It’s an absolutely ridiculous notion and we need Bailey to stay here, keep competing and getting better…

I had breakfast with my guy that is at practice…. He says that Joe is by far the best deep ball passer on the team(completing them)…. Thinks he may have been nervous…. Doesn’t hold the ball that long in practice either…..He stated that we didn’t use hardly any of our offense….. have better designed qb runs that we didn’t use…. We plan to get creative with our qbs.

Joe has to play better which may be helped when we open up the playbook some….. find 7-8 plays that he throws really well and use them…. If he struggles with the same issues against Pitt then move onto the next guy…. I’m hopeful Milton plays better after getting his feet under bc it’s our best chance of having a good/great season….. that being said, I’m glad to be 1-0 and look forward to being 2-0 after Pittsburgh.

Many folks will say Alabama truly became the dynasty they are when the offense caught up with the defense. I don’t dispute that at all. They have gotten faster and more “advanced” as well.

But the true difference maker is an advanced offense WITH elite talent. Air raid/high tempo offense without talent is just a gimmick to make up for said talent disadvantage. Ole Miss and Mississippi State, both this year and last, are examples worth watching.
Alabama’s offense is still a Pro style/Multiple system that uses the playclock quite a bit. Only differences from earlier years is they’re a bit more in the pistol and they had a philosophical change in recruiting WRs. They go for the fast guys but scheme is still strong in play design etc. Which general public fail to realize. They think since they score alot they run “air raid” or pass first spread tempo which isn’t the case at all

Sheesh. The way some Vol fans are reacting to the game, you’d think we lost by 32 points.

Relax folks! We only get to see them 11 or so more times. Enjoy it while it lasts!
I get it…. I was ready to fire Heupel at halftime and hire PJ Fleck to row this boat….. the next day I start thinking logically again…..when I was young…. I would be irrational for several weeks.

On a second note about football Philosophy… Chip Kelly’s Run first spread option offense concept came from Tom Osborne when he was dominating at Nebraska being Top 10 in rushing and points per game for 16 straight seasons 1982-1997. Chip just put it in the Gun to modernize it a bit… I think they take down LSU and watch out for the Bruins this season they have the guys for the system

Our fans love for Harrison Bailey is weird, the guy torched a bunch of walk ons in the spring game
5* recruit. A shaky one but a 5* nonetheless. Fans will always think he’s the best we’ve got. Per the services, the problem wasn’t where he was in high school but that they didn’t see room for growth. They all but said he’d plateaued and that was why they didn’t think as highly of him as a prospect. I don’t know if that’s true or how much arm strength can be improved but in the limited action I did see of him HBs lack of arm strength surprised me. I think that is the only thing holding him back and why he needs a developmental year.
