I would love that too, unfortunately I think I past coaches have tried that and only that. They forgot to actually scheme and or coach. I very much look forward fo recruiting better, but I think we are going to have to find some kind of way to make up the difference because we aren’t going to recruit our way back to the top without some success first. No, not at all. I think it’s very possible for it to be successful.
But I think in this league talent comes first and scheme comes second.
What Heupel does is essentially try to exhaust a defense - and more specifically, one particular CB, Safety, DE, etc. It can work and there’s nothing wrong with it.
But what I would prefer is simply recruiting good players and go head to head with the opposing team. Not trying to find a shortcut to success via gaming the snap count.
I think it could if QB play and overall talent upgrade on the roster are. You are correct that talent is the biggest part. Unfortunately talent upgrades don’t happen over night. I think we need continuity with coach, scheme etc. which is what we are going for this go round. Bottom line if you get great QB play you can win a lot of games in college football.Heupel will very likely have very good statistical offense here at Tennessee over multiple seasons. To dispute that would be asinine given his track record.
However, you can’t say you are sure that will ever equate to more than a 7 or 8 win season in this particular conference playing against this level of talent.
Do you honestly think that nobody wants to get more talent? No, not at all. I think it’s very possible for it to be successful.

Well then I would say no matter what offense we run would be either gimmicky or just plain ineffective. Either we find a way to scheme around our talent gap or we bang our heads against the wall and blame the lack of talent. I would prefer to watch us try to scheme around the talent disadvantage all while improving our talent. Many folks will say Alabama truly became the dynasty they are when the offense caught up with the defense. I don’t dispute that at all. They have gotten faster and more “advanced” as well.
But the true difference maker is an advanced offense WITH elite talent. Air raid/high tempo offense without talent is just a gimmick to make up for said talent disadvantage. Ole Miss and Mississippi State, both this year and last, are examples worth watching.

Hell just froze over..I agree with you. It’s more than a little disingenuous to act like no huddle, high speed offenses are a gimmick now. Anyone who watches football at ANY level has seen them be successful for spans of seasons at a time. Bowling Green may have figured it out but two or three throws/drops/penalties make that game 70 to 6.
Seems like this should be the obvious mindset..Well then I would say no matter what offense we run would be either gimmicky or just plain ineffective. No it doesn’t smell like roses. I was iffy on Milton last night. He didn’t see a lot of open receivers, he overthrew two big plays, Hyatt didn’t help him on a few plays. He’s got to improve. What gives me some pause on thinking he just sucks though that he hasn’t played in a long time. No spring ball, was injured etc. Next week may be the biggest game on our schedule. I think it’s winnable but they could easily beat us as well.No doubt!
We have chosen this path so we need to stick to it. We need Heupel to work out. Need it. I don’t know where we turn if he doesn’t.
I am prepared for a three year blank check (assuming even small progression each year). But that doesn’t mean we have to pretend everything smells like roses.
Just watched it last night broWatch the 2nd quarter of the BGSU game. Pitt is content to run a whole game like that, playing keepaway from our offense and controlling the game.
If Milton continues trying to hold the ball for 5 seconds behind the line, it's going to be rough. He's got to throw it or take off after 3 seconds.
I think it does. It doesn’t mean they WILL beat it. But they’ve proven they can.
This offense is a gimmick - it’s like watching a 10 year old play Madden once they figure out the no huddle button. Bowling Green could not take advantage of it because of the talent and size disparity, but you saw in the second quarter what happens when things are “figured out” a little bit.
