I don't think the point was there is no room for improvement.
I hope this doesn't turn into another JG situation. I haven't been criticizing anything except Milton. I think Heupel wants him to be something he isn't and I understand why, I really do...if the guy was decisive and accurate he would be a Heisman contender...but he's not, and I have said all along he is not.

Yeah I know. I'm just saying that if just one thing within his control happened differently (just one of his 2 overthrown deep balls) and one thing outside of his control was better (the 2nd Hyatt drop, but you could really include both drops he had) we score ~50 points, Milton's stats look a lot better on the basis of just those 2 passes, and instead the narrative is "Hey, that offense looked pretty good" instead of "Maybe we need a new QB."
But they did happen, and that has nothing to do with not seeing guys running wide open all game long.

The people that are so upset this morning are the same ones who tried convincing themselves and everyone else that Milton was the next coming of Cam. Those same people do nothing but try and tell themselves we will win 8-9 games each year too.

I feel attacked.

I think we all are disappointed by his performance but let's give the kid larger than a 1 game sample size to definitively say what he is capable of doing.

Joe has a lot to improve. Heup can take this game and drill him all week in practice which we can only hope pays dividends next Saturday.

Right, and I see you defending the Tillman TD throw. From a review of some of the UM films his best passes seemed to be 30 yard ropes. Some seemed to be in the middle of the field. You maybe right, perhaps his limitations are not fixible.

Not sure we've reached the point in a game where it's obvious there needs to a change because a win is on the line. We may soon, but in-game circumstance will have to play a large part in how that would unfold.

My opinion of Milton is not based on one game.

Here’s the thing: Milton is the best QB option tho. he has to make improvements but he didn’t turn the ball over with throws.

Is it true to say Milton adds two more dimensions to the offense than Bailey and one more than Hooker?

Hooker keeps the QB run game a threat, but I do not see him offering much in terms of a vertical passing game.

Bailey is one less run read for a defense, and some of the outside throws Milton can make, maybe more difficult for Bailey with his slower release and throwing motion.

Is that fair?

Josh Heupel has been out around Knoxville this morning with stops at Karns, Catholic, Powell, Fulton, AE and West before going to the Baylor vs Catholic and Powell vs Karns games this evening.

Rodney Garner will be with Heupel at those games to see Walter Nolen, Ayden

Rodney Elarbee is in the state of Florida seeing Brian Grant.

Jerry Mack is in Memphis to see the Germantown vs Whitehaven game to see Kody Jones and others.

Defensive Coordinator Tim Banks is in Michigan to see defensive back Jeremiah Caldwell and Vol commitment Masai Reddick.

Just south in Indiana, you will find Joey Halzle checking in on Tayven Jackson.

Kodi Burns is over in Arkansas seeing Chas Nimrod.

Offensive Coordinator Alex Golesh is in the midstate checking in with several targets such as the Marcel Reed, Nate and Edwin Spillman, and Caleb Beasley.

Mike Ekeler is in North Carolina seeing James Pearce and some other 2023’s in Charlotte.

Brian Jean Mary is in middle Tennessee seeing Ayden Bussell and then down to Murfreesboro to see the Herrings and more.

Willie Martinez is in Alabama seeing a handful of defensive backs from that state.

I know this is probably the 'norm' for a college football coaching staff, but I think it's pretty impressive all the same. I think we've heard better than expected efforts with the recruiting level so far based on some of the stuff posted on here from the various websites, it's easy to see why based on this. Every coach on the road today!

I feel like Butch benefited from a lot of legacy momentum and highly rated kids that increased the overall class ranking and led to a higher than average bust percentage. And we all know it was all a fraud with the Gump's fool's gold methodology. And that idiot Dooley took a flamethrower to everything, alienating both High Schools and VFL's alike. So I, for one, am thrilled at the prospect of a coaching staff that is putting in the time to mend relationships, re-connect to our history, and get kids who fit the system regardless of ranking. That's how you build a solid foundation. Couple big time gets this year, along with hitting the portal for impact transfers, and the 2023 cycle may be the start of the climb out of this mess.

Dobrucky's uncle said that Milton wasn't the best QB on the roster and that everyone is shaking their heads why he was the starter. He said Bailey was the clear best QB on the roster. Something like that.

Thank you, sir. Now who is Dobrucky and why should I care?

My opinion of Milton is not based on one game.

I don't count last year for any of our QBs. Despite the fact it being a Covid year with no spring and summer and each kid is in a totally new system with a completely new coaching staff. Milton not being here in the Spring also hurt his development to this point. Just my opinion but let's give the guy some time.

By the Florida game, he still playing this way he would have played his way to the bench.

Man, I know it happened, but we're talking about just 1 throw that was within his control turning out differently. It isn't always the case where if just one thing occurred differently, the narrative surrounding something totally changes. This is one of those cases though.

If Milton hit just one deep ball, and Hyatt doesn't drop those passes, then you and I would be in here telling everybody to pump the brakes because Milton still can't anticipate throws, and we'd be getting flamed by people who would be talking about how awesome his arm is and how big he is. Seriously.

Not going to argue any of that, I just want everyone of them to get a real in-game chance.

The two deep overthrows didn't bother me as much as Milton not seeing and hitting the middle routes...that is the worst issue with him.

He has the arm to absolutely destroy a deep zone easily just by seeing and hitting those routes...it is sooo frustrating, and I don't know that he has it in him to fix. I hope he does, because this offense will be a problem for anybody if he does

This is stupid, Weezer. I hate how we do this on message boards. Good grief.

No, but I do believe that it is possible for a coach to fall in love with a guy who can throw it 80 yards effortlessly and think that he can use those tools to create big explosive plays, verses playing the guy who doesn't have those tools, but who is effective in the offense. Wow, crazy, I know. It's almost like Heup has done that before. Oh yeah, when he started Wimbush in 2019 at UCF before making the switch to Dillion Gabriel and the rest is history.
So, what about the reports that CJH thinks Bailey needs a year to develop? Would he not already be fairly well developed if he truly was the best of the three? I don't think you bench your best QB and say he needs development if he is truly your best QB.

I would say the logic answered the question. He is not out best QB right now.

Yeah, and that Pitt team was probably better than this year's Pitt team. They won 8 games that season.

Winning one game 2 years ago by ONE point does not equal knowing "the recipe for this offense and how to beat it."
I think it does. It doesn’t mean they WILL beat it. But they’ve proven they can.

This offense is a gimmick - it’s like watching a 10 year old play Madden once they figure out the no huddle button. Bowling Green could not take advantage of it because of the talent and size disparity, but you saw in the second quarter what happens when things are “figured out” a little bit.

No argument...unless he royally sucks next Saturday and they still don't give the other guys a real game chance.
