Tee Hodge In Transfer Portal

One of the good sides to the transfer portal. Some kids are close to playing at a Power 5 school but the roster is full of physically/mentally ready players. They are very good but not quite ready. Now the talent level will increase at the lower levels of college football. Obviously this kid has talent to receive a major college scholarship, so imagine how he could help a Group of 5 team or someone lIke an ETSU.

I don't know that anyone lied to him. We just recruited too many RBs. It was inevitable that some of them were going to leave after not winning spots in the rotation. And Hodge was a much better fit with Pruitt's offense than Heupel's.

The more shocking thing to me is that Whitehead still hasn't moved over to LB. Somehow, he's decided it's better to be a 6th string RB than potentially start or be in the 2-deep at LB.
🤫 don’t give him any ideas...
GBO!!

I don't think anybody is going to say coaches lied when a player is 5th on the depth chart and has never moved the entire time here. I don't care where he goes to school. The vast majority of players in the portal aren't leaving because anybody lied to them, the vast majority are there because the couldn't crack the lineup or get close. Coaches are going to play the best players, the ones that want to keep their job anyway. GBO!!!!!
That's what I pointed out in my first comment at the top of the thread (his position on the depth chart). In my second comment, I was just marvelling at the rarity of someone implying that our own coaches are lying. You don't see that much. Now other teams coaches? It's pretty common for CFB fans' to accuse other team's coaches of all lying, cheating, and all manner of impropriety, fairly or not.

With COVID & contact tracing protocols, we're going to need every healthy player ready to go. Not to count injuries. They have to have the needs of the team 1st. I thought he prayed about his decision to sign here. Must have listened to the wrong voice.

In Heupel's offense they usually play 4 RB's a game (at least at UCF). They normally ran 3 at Mizzou when he was offensive coordinator. This means you needed to be top 4 on the depth chart to see any playing time. Right now that looks like Small, Evans, Wright, and Beckwith. From all reports it appears that Marcus Pierce (a walk on) has been really pushing the other backs to be in that top 4. That leaves Hodge on the bench, even if we have an injury. Of course, things can change week to week if you continue to compete and put in the work. I hate it for the kid, but this should be an indicator of the talent we have at running back.

What if Travis Stephens had said, "I don't want to play behind Jamal", and transferred out. No Gator Killer night in the Swamp. Yeah, kids today need instant gratification.

Pretty big difference between being a 2nd or 3rd string contributor in a crowded backfield vs being 5th / 6th string with little hope of ever seeing much playing time.

As much as I like Hodge, once Heupel came in, his days were probably numbered. He's not a good fit for Heup's offense. Think he has a better shot at a G5 or FCS program.

If there’s one position we can handle a transfer, it’s RB. We have Evans, Small, Wright, and Beckwith in the backfield.

I certainly don’t blame this young man for leaving to get some playing time somewhere. By the time it would have been “his turn,” he likely would have been recruited over.

Wish him well.
And whitehead and some nice looking walk ons

Oh well. Based on his standing in the depth chart, seems like we really didn't need him anyways.

This is the least surprising transfer yet...

It's the best public high school football program in east Tennessee, but while Maryville has had some players do well in other places (Nick Black, Carl Stewart, Patton Robinette Dylan Jackson), the ones who sign with Tennessee always end up transferring and they are usually bitter in doing so. You could see this coming the moment he committed to Tennessee.
