How do you define "go-to" receiver though? Cause if it's based on YAC or TDs then Velus may not be the go-to receiver, but he could still lead the team in catches/targets.

Just like Moss' first year for the Vikings

Carter had just 1 more target but caught 9 more of them than Randy, but Randy averaged 6 yards more per catch and scored 5 more TDs. Carter though could still be argued to have been the "go-to" WR that year, since he ran more of the route tree and Moss benefited a lot from the deep ball which they threw often.

I think Velus has the best chance to lead the team in targets next year if he's healthy, because he will be targeted at every level and someone with Hyatt's speed may not.
Wouldn’t a Go-To receiver be the guy you are throwing at to get First Downs and TDs when you need them? Or usually the QBs first target?

Like when we needed a RedZone TD or a First Down on 3rd or 4th down we usually knew that the ball was going to Jennings. (Which made him the Go-to receiver)

Should be said that Calvin Johnson is the most physically gifted WR to ever play...and few will disagree.

6'5" 240lbs and runs 4.3s with a 45" vertical and the ability to catch anything and everything. Not to mention extremely intelligent, had a 41 in the Wonderlic

But there isn't any data to back up anyone except Rice is the king of WRs. Over 5400 yards more receiving than 2nd place, over 100 more receptions, 41 more TDs than 2nd place (Moss). Rice just had a different level to him, he's the closest to a MJ the NFL has ever seen imo.

I love rice but not sure I can follow you there. I don’t think he is even the best at his position. Let alone transcendent for what he does

The most clearly better football player at his position than anyone else imo is Deon sanders. They still talk about shutdown corners but he is really the only one that truly was

I think in his time Irvin was just as good as Rice and if I keep thinking I’d find several other than CJ that are right there

No one is right there with Deon imo

Irvin was never as good as Rice. He fit the Cowboys perfectly. And Rice torched Deion in the playoffs when Prime Time was in Atlanta.

The scary thing is Rice tore his ACL at 35 after having some of his best seasons of his career. He doesn't miss that year and stays healthy and he may have went over 25k yards.

We DO have hindsight with the discussion though and it's pointless to ignore it because of how physically gifted Calvin was. If you put them in the same combine without knowing what they can/were cable of doing in the NFL then sure Calvin is probably getting picked over Rice...but that's just based purely on measurables, which to me seems even more pointless than taking into account actual results.

I'd take Reggie White over Clowney all day as a pass rusher... But one is a 6'6 260 4.5s guy with a 37" vertical, so on paper he looks the freaking part far more than White did.
Clowney never abused guys like White. Rice never abused guys like Johnson.

Great example, Jennings was our GO-TO WR his last year, but per catch Calloway had more yards and TDs on average. I mean I'm just saying at this point in the season I'd put Velus as the most likely to be that go-to guy that you see end up with more catches, could be wrong though. Hyatt is still very young in his career and last year was such a mess I don't feel he developed as much as he could have.

Charles Woodson was a more complete CB than Deion though, but I can't argue that Deion is one of a kind.

So far the counters have been "but he played with Joe Montana" to which the stats show his better seasons came while with Young.

Irvin as good as Rice? You're high as hell. Don't let team success influence individual success. And if anyone benefited from another player, it's Irvin benefiting from Emmitt Smith. Once Dallas became a juggernaut in the ground game the dude probably never saw double coverage again for his career. Irvin's first 3 years were pretty sad, then Emmitt has his break out 2nd season and suddenly Michael's production takes off.

So is the scheme not better? Is the talent not better? (If for no other reason than they will be better coached?) Are the coaches not better? Is the atmosphere not better? Is team chemistry not better? Will there not be less thinking on the field? Is the QB talent not better? (Is the QB coach not better?)
There is always a multiple of potential problems that each team could face unless you're one of the top 5 teams with replaceable talent. You are just pessimistic that most of them will happen because that is how it's been for too many years now.
We don't KNOW what's better or not, we just HOPE it is..

And like I say..Hope in one hand and crap in the other, and see which gets full faster.

I do really HOPE things are better, but I don't KNOW they are...we will find out. My guess is that some things will go good and others will not, therefore I think 5-6 wins with the team looking better coached, being tougher, more competitive and playing till the end of games instead of the horse💩 quitting we have endured from most of the teams we have had the last ten-fifteen years is going to be a good showing.

I hope they blow my expectations away...but I sure as heck ain't expecting it.

Lol firstly AP has only said he is the most consistent "Steady Eddy" not accuracy wise.

Secondly, I have watched Hookers previous film with VT along with OW game film and he is basically a more mobile JG. Not accurate outside an 8 yard pass.

His “highlights” are all check downs.

This is a good take. Throw in his ability to take it to the house whenever he got his hands on the ball as well. There are not many comparisons out there to him.

@nicksjuzunk, my fellow crime victim… there is some chucklenuts out there with my wife’s Fawn diaper bag and exactly zero valuables in it. I hope the the guy julienned his arm getting it out. 😡 Brentwood, of all places.

I hope there was a stinky used diaper in there as a nice “surprise.”

Everything you’ve said about QB sounds great to me, except the thoughts of both getting playing time during the season. Best thing we could hear before Labor Day is that one of these guys has taken the job and run away with it.
I totally disagree..you are always one play from needing a great #1a or 2 to come in.

The best thing for us this year is to have two great QBs so close in ability that can both be counted on to destroy defenses when they come in.

I’m in NY. No idea on budget. It just happened yesterday. A family member is considering getting a new car so we might get theirs

I feel whiny this morning. Sorry guys. Just a lot of transition and stuff out of my control that’s frustrating. I’m going to take a break from VN.

… see ya round lunch time

Welp, if ya get get to the point...or just down south again, our 2002 Avalon is just sitting around collecting dust sitting by some pizzeria construction. Planning to give it away, just been busy. Runs like a tank. 140k miles, probably good for another 140k. She's no Charger/Bamamobile though...

Hey! I listed both Montana and Young.

The best QB CJ played with professionally was Stafford, and he kept getting hurt.
