Maybe honey on top and baked in, but that's not a real southern sweet cornbread. A Hickory BBQ hole in the wall I frequented in Abilene, TX made the corn ear shaped sweet cornbread sticks to perfection to go with their BBQ. Should have same moist texture as regular cornbread. Only enough sugar to get to to the sweet side, but not pastry sweet. I've been known to heat mine with butter and drizzle honey on it, but it should not come out of the oven that way. I will also make cornbread with creamed corn and it will be moist and barely a tad sweet, but that's not a sweet cornbread.

I'll do honey and melted butter on cornbread just about every time for dessert. I just don't bake it in.Skillet cornbread served with honey at a NC BBQ spot. It's sweet but I love it!
