To Protect and to Serve II

Louisiana state troopers boasted about beating black man: court docs
An internal investigation found the responding troopers, who are white, attacked Harris even though he had surrendered and “laid face down (prone) on the ground and extended his arms away from his body and his legs spread apart.”
The troopers produced “wholly untrue” reports saying Harris was resisting and continuing to flee, the filings say, and they sought to conceal from investigators that there was bodycam video. They also exchanged 14 text messages peppered with “lol” and “haha” responses in which they boasted about the beating and mocked Harris.

“Bet he wont run from a full grown bear again,” Brown wrote.

“Bet he don’t even cross into LA anymore,” DeMoss responded, who earlier jeered that Harris was “still digesting that ass whoopin.”

“He gonna spread the word that’s for damn sure,” Harper texted back.

They enjoyed beating people and arresting them.
Cowards & bullies with guns & badges.

They need to be locked up for a really long time.

From the comments section of the story:

There's a level of realistic practicality that is missing in these sorts of altercations between Police Officers and citizens.

An officer should be able to discern the best course of action when taking the situation into context. He could have asked the bank clerk to expedite her withdrawal and closure of her account to remove her from the premises peacefully without coming off as a henchmen for the bank. Make it easier for yourself and everyone else by reading the situation 'better' (I guess).

Or better yet, if you are going to impose certain rules on your private property, then the police shouldn't be asked to enforce them... you should enforce them on your own. The police have better things to be doing than playing the mask game.

Unless they specify how the mask is to be worn, all she had to do is put one on and wear it on her chin like I see a lot of people doing.

The question is what happens when they refuse to leave? Trespassing is still unlawful.
So now we are going to have cops enforcing arbitrary house rules?

I think we are going well past come sense reasons for kicking someone out of a private establishment and moving into the ridiculous.

Principle behind it.

If a person is no longer welcome on private property, regardless of the arbitrary "rules" the property owner has the right to have them removed.

As police responses go, this is probably more justified than a lot of them.

I don't disagree with that. But at this point, I'm ready to say that if you are going to make that call, then the property owner needs to be the one responsible for enforcing it.

The police have more important things to do and lets be honest, none of the 3 parties involved in this (the customer, the bank and the police) end up looking good. And this will most certainly lead to some type of litigation and negative PR that the cops and BofA don't need to deal with.

Not entirely off base here with this thinking. But at the same time, it's bad precedent to set to let even this minor slip go if you're BoA.

I'm not saying I agree with the mask policy by any means and, as I always like to point out, there is probably more to this story that happened prior to the LEO arrival. The full story could be they tried to move her along without physical means. But a business owner will only go so far with that.

There is no valid litigation from a simple criminal trespassing arrest

It’s not unethical, she refused to abide by the rules of the bank and refused to leave.

Yeah tell the businesses that were looted and burnt down during the mostly peaceful protest when the police “stood down”. Where were the cops when these businesses called for help?

I’m all for private businesses having rules, but don’t most banks have rent a cops? Could have been handled by the bank.

A precedent has been set. Cops can choose which laws to enforce.

Cops have always chosen which laws to enforce or not.

How far would it be acceptable for the private entity to go in enforcement. Shoot the bitch?
I'm basing this on the whining that cops have given over the years of them not having the training or know-how to correctly deal with certain situations, their exhibited practice of not showing the ability to de-escalate situations and the growth of these busy body Karens that want to have people arrested for the flimsiest of transgressions.

This takes some pressure off of the cops from having to deal with a petty domestic dispute and it makes these Karens and "woke" property owners think twice about coming up with these silly rules now that they know that the cops cannot be used as their attack dogs and enforcers... they will have to enforce their own rules or actually be reasonable and come up with a more diplomatic resolution.

The problem is that the cops are far too involved in too many aspects of our lives... even before COVID. Now over the last year, we've added one more reason for the cops to make visits to either a domestic call or to the local McDonalds/Walmart.
