To Protect and to Serve II

The first instinct should be booing.

I think we see this kind of garbage when "the other side" swings the political pendulum too far to one side. The politicians feel compelled to use their power to move the pendulum back in their favor. These legislative efforts are side effects to the summer of protests and riots we witnessed in 2020.

That and the politicians want their 15 minutes.

Cops are the most thin-skinned immature people in our society. And we've militarized them. Makes sense.

From link (bold by me):
Under the legislation, anyone who “accosts, insults, taunts, or challenges a law enforcement officer with offensive or derisive words, or by gestures or other physical contact, that would have a direct tendency to provoke a violent response” would be guilty of a misdemeanor and face up to 90 days in jail and fines.

Garbage legislation. A R retired LEO sponsored this attack on free speech. Let's hope is fails in Ky's senate. Firstly, 'insults, taunts, or challenges'; are LEOs so emotionally immature they cannot handle being called ugly names? Secondly, 'a direct tendency to provoke a violent response', what??? Seems to me conservative-leaning folk have promoted abstinence as 100% effective; well, if the officers abstain from a violent response there will be no violent response.

Never in my life have I given a LEO any flak whatsoever. But I have been stopped by LEOs on power trips. Making those people a protected class in KY is bad juju.
That’s so ridiculous

Red necks and thugs have thinner skin. Most officers I've come across are much thicker skinned than you give them credit for but there are bunch who can't take any kind of challenge any way but personally. It isn't even remotely police officers alone, it's our society in general.

Yep our society is pretty limp wristed.

I think we have to restrain ourselves from making broad brush character assessments based on the behavior of a few, well publicized, LEOs. Same is true for protesters, doctors, clergy, etc.

That being said, there are some who have no business having that much authority. My in law is a Narc officer in Missouri. He laments the knuckleheads who come out of the academy.

I agree..... we also need better/different training, stop our over policing policies, and develop non-lethal weapons that can immobilize a suspect.... we have Outlawed billy clubs, most of the body weight holds officers can use.... a stun gun works sparingly.... we need to spend some to get realistic non-lethal weapons that work.

Don’t like all the verbiage in the law but definitely agree with provisions about pointing lasers in eyes, and making deafening bullhorn and other sounds directly in ears of officers. Or anyone else.

I would easily support a bill dictating those types of things. Lazer pointers in eyes, bullhorns in ears, throwing urine or fecal matter, etc. Those are reasonable to me and not protected by free speech.

I would think that those activities mentioned are all forms of assault already and we don’t need more redundant laws on the books. Save a tree.

I disagree with this however I don’t know about this law. I mean what is disorderly conduct for? Plus spitting and throwing items whatever they are is assault

Louisiana state troopers boasted about beating black man: court docs
An internal investigation found the responding troopers, who are white, attacked Harris even though he had surrendered and “laid face down (prone) on the ground and extended his arms away from his body and his legs spread apart.”
The troopers produced “wholly untrue” reports saying Harris was resisting and continuing to flee, the filings say, and they sought to conceal from investigators that there was bodycam video. They also exchanged 14 text messages peppered with “lol” and “haha” responses in which they boasted about the beating and mocked Harris.

“Bet he wont run from a full grown bear again,” Brown wrote.

“Bet he don’t even cross into LA anymore,” DeMoss responded, who earlier jeered that Harris was “still digesting that ass whoopin.”

“He gonna spread the word that’s for damn sure,” Harper texted back.

They enjoyed beating people and arresting them.
Cowards & bullies with guns & badges.

They need to be locked up for a really long time.

From the comments section of the story:

There's a level of realistic practicality that is missing in these sorts of altercations between Police Officers and citizens.

An officer should be able to discern the best course of action when taking the situation into context. He could have asked the bank clerk to expedite her withdrawal and closure of her account to remove her from the premises peacefully without coming off as a henchmen for the bank. Make it easier for yourself and everyone else by reading the situation 'better' (I guess).

Or better yet, if you are going to impose certain rules on your private property, then the police shouldn't be asked to enforce them... you should enforce them on your own. The police have better things to be doing than playing the mask game.

Unless they specify how the mask is to be worn, all she had to do is put one on and wear it on her chin like I see a lot of people doing.

The question is what happens when they refuse to leave? Trespassing is still unlawful.
So now we are going to have cops enforcing arbitrary house rules?

I think we are going well past come sense reasons for kicking someone out of a private establishment and moving into the ridiculous.
