7-5...

We're going to lose to Bama, Florida and Georgia, badly.

Kiffin will throttle us also.

And at this point, with 25 players in the Portal, there's no way in hell I'm going to mark games at Kentucky and at Missouri as wins. Is it possible we could win one? Yes, likely, no.

Count the 3 cupcakes as W's and that leaves a likely win against Vandy (not impossible to lose to Vandy or a cupcake though, not likely but not impossible) and that Pitt and South Carolina as true toss ups. 5 wins- would be a good job against that schedule next year, 6 would be great.

5 or 6 wins is where I am. I am out of the loop apparently. Are there really 25 players in the portal that won’t be here next year?

2021 they'll be anywhere from 3-9 to 5-7. He'll show whether he can coach or not by how they make adjustments in games and if they can avoid getting beat by 40 points by Bama, Florida, and Georgia. They'll likely lose to Pitt IMO. There's only a couple of "guaranteed wins" and those are Bowling Green, Tennessee Tech, and South Alabama. And if it's "off the rails" by South Alabama I don't know if that's a given. Because they could legitimately be 2-8 heading into that game.

Coming off a 3 win season

Coach got Tennessee into trouble

Players leaving in droves

NCAA sanctions

New coach & system

Yet somehow 7 games is a minimum? Could win 8 or 9?

What is wrong with people? It’s a game, you never know what could happen......so there is always the “possibility” of winning like 7.......but dang for some of you to “start” there is totally unrealistic.

Heupel has played Kiffy twice, with similar talent. Lane got boat raced, both times.

Expecting 7-5 is delusional. 8-4 should get you admitted to the looney bin. Im thinking somewhere around 3-9 to 5-7. And that has nothing to do with who our new coach is. That’s just where this program is and all the loses we are taking on the roster. Maybe he can salvage a game by getting some big time transfer portal guys to come here but I don’t know how much good that will do.
That's true.
My spectrum is 7-5 to 10-2.

Not beating UGA or BAMA for a while.

Mullen isn't building trust and stability at UF. If we can match his offense, I like our chances. Whos his QB next season? Defense is full of dummies. Mullen can still coach his tail off.

Talent was not our problem last year. Just bad understanding of football from top to bottom. Need Peter Baeilish Fulmer to stay far away from the program.
I made the mistake of saying we were going to be 7-3 or 8-2 last year based on my assumption JG would have been past by on the depth chart. Boy was I wrong. For you to state that we could go 7-5 to 10-2 will indicate to most here that you do not have a firm grasp on the reality we do not even have a full staff with NSD just a few days from now and that are roster depth has been decimated by the transfer portal.

Everyone keeps kicking the 3-7 season... No one mentions it was a SEC ONLY schedule no OOC games to breathe and obvious a toxic locker room that was cheating to lose. 7-5 is admittedly a lofty goal but my point was that was a mark that should satisfy even the biggest NEGAVOLS if he hits that mark we should all rejoice. If he don't that's not lighter fluid and mattress time but the jury will definitely still be out and year 2 will become even more important.

As for the players in the portal I believe that he needs to be working HARD and even trying to get coaches that help him retain every player he can. Henry in IMO is the most important one but with him fighting home sickness he may be the hardest one to retain. He needs to lock in a DC quickly that impresses the players and helps recruiting QUICKLY...

Can we all agree if CJH can pull off 7-5 next year he is initially a successful hire? Looking at the schedule and if he can get a DC to match his apparent offensive genius then I don't think 7-5 is impossible..

4 out of Conference games should be wins, Pitt will challenge.
Vandy
SCAR
Revenge on KY.
Mizzou/Ole Miss Tossups.
3 Big rivals, not so good.

I can see 8 wins.

I agree!! The one good caveat is, this is a team that will have nothing to lose. No bowl game to worry about and can throw out everything but the kitchen sink

6 wins should always be the BARE MINIMUM.
I hear you, and I agree it's not acceptable for UT to be where we are right now, but that doesn't change where we are right now. We are not the Tennessee of the past right now, haven't been for awhile. There is no reason to assume we will beat any SEC team on our schedule other than maybe Vandy, but that would certainly be possible to lose. The days of looking at the schedule and penciling in conference/P5 wins are over for the moment. We may get back there, but right now we can't take anything for granted. I don't know if you've ever seen the movie Downfall (it's great) but it's about the last days of the Third Reich, and in it Hitler is moving around armies on his map that don't exist anymore or if they do exist are out of bullets, tanks, shoes and running low on men. Pardon the clumsy analogy but that's really where alot of these 9-3, 8-4 projection guys are. They aren't living in the here and now, they are somewhere else. Is 9-3 mathematically impossible? No, Heupel could conceivably be one of the Top 10 greatest coaches in the history of the game and we just don't know it yet, and on top of that we may have one of the luckiest, most charmed seasons in our history next year. If both of those were true, we might go 9-3, but that's not a reasonable expectation, that would be a miracle.

we should be very good at QB next year. WR, TE, and RB positions should also be much better. the oline is a question and the defense should be mediocre, but thats the biggest question.

While the RB position may have a little more depth than 2020, we lost our top RB that had over 1,000 AP yards last year. And we lost our 2nd leading back. That won't be easy to replace. Preliminary outlook is that we are definitely downgrading here

We lost our 2 best WRs as well. WR group is looking rather thin overall and we have no clue who the number 1 will be (though Hyatt looks very promising). Another preliminary downgrade here.

Pretty impossible for the TEs to be any worse than they were last year, so you are correct there.

yea

I said it months ago.....2021 “should” be better simply because of the schedule.

Not saying 2021 is easy......but you gots many “built in” possible or should be wins.

Your also right, Heupel needs to work on these kids in the portal more than anything (player wise) right now......25 limit (keeping current players won’t count against).

7-5 would be a miracle. With everything going on and the “probable” roster reduction......it’s going to be very hard to win more than 4 or 5.

No idea how our D could get any worse than this year. If it even stays the exact same, and we're able to move the ball fairly well, then this year we could pull off 6-6 or 7-5

Agree.....also on a plus side......what can this team do when it isn’t self destructing?

Simply with a “different” coach things could be very different.

Still worried about the roster though.

I believe that is 25 over 3 years.
I count 23 from this year who have either gone somewhere else already or are in the portal and have neither committed elsewhere nor said they were coming back. 24 if you count the Brooks kid, our highest rated recruit who asked to and probably will get out of his NLI. It was 25 but Austin Pope came back so 24.

Ole Miss is going to be alot better than us next year.
I don't see it, they played a very similar schedule to us this year and won 4 regular season games. 2 were SC and Vandy. They beat UK, so point to them there. Their other win was Miss St, who was bad. While we beat SC, Vandy, and Mizz. Mizz had the best record of any of those. I know we have some transfers, but with Ole Miss' lack of D, I see that one as a toss up. They're no scarier than UK. Lane may beat us, but I doubt we get throttled.

I like to consider myself an optimist.

But I don't see how RB will be much better. We lost Gray and Chandler and picked up Tiyon Evans to go with Beckwith, Hodge and Small. Push at best.

WR, QB and TE I agree though.

OL is a question mark with Morris, Trey, ole man Kennedy and potentially J. Johnson gone. But we will have a new OL coach not named Friend and Spraggins will only get better. We haven't seen the best from the Mays Bros and Wright either. Calbert and Carvin returning too!

On defense: We need some transfer portal help at CB and hopefully Henry T and Crouch stay put. We also desperately need edge rushers. Come-on Big Kat!
The same DL who were good in 2019 took a step back in 2020. That's coaching and we need a very good DL coach. Most of DL returns.

Ole Miss D was like a butter knife. They may score but they don't stop anybody, I do think Kiffin will get them better on D because if he don't the going 6-6, 7-5,6-6 will get old no matter how much he scores. People want wins, I don't care if we win 10-9 or 28-27 or 49-48. You have to be good at both. GBO!
