7-5...

At best? This might be your prediction, but it isn't the ceiling. I agree that the range is 4-8 to 9-3. Probably 6-6 or 7-5 (which is in the middle).

Agreed I am saying 7-5 next year is what I believe would constitute improvement over this year and would definitely give me personally more faith in his ability to rebuild the program.

if we can get 5 or 6 it will be a successful start - this is going to be rebuilding after burning the house down here

5-7 to 7-5 possible.

6-6 most likely

we go 8-4 this guy is an offensive guru.

Pretty much my thinking and yes, I'd be happy with 7-5. 6-6 is ok as long as we look like a well coached team moving in the right direction. 8-4 he gets coach of the year but not holding my breath.

I think the O/U for SEC wins should be 2.5.

2 should be expected. 3 wouldn't be too much of a surprise and fans im hindsight should be content. 4+ wins is a overachievement and successful season.

6 wins should always be the BARE MINIMUM. That being said our previous 2 coaches went 5-7 in their initial year. If Heupel can get 6-7 wins, it would be a success and step in the right direction, regardless of penalties and bowl bans.

Expecting 7-5 is delusional. 8-4 should get you admitted to the looney bin. Im thinking somewhere around 3-9 to 5-7. And that has nothing to do with who our new coach is. That’s just where this program is and all the loses we are taking on the roster. Maybe he can salvage a game by getting some big time transfer portal guys to come here but I don’t know how much good that will do.

We’ll move the ball. I’m just concerned that it’s going to be very ugly defensively. We just don’t have much in the front 7.
True, but hopefully JH offense has just one more possession to score than the opposing team. We have to play like we are in the Big 12 until the defense gets up to speed.

  • Sept. 4: Bowling Green - W
  • Sept. 11: Pittsburgh - W
  • Sept. 18: Tennessee Tech -W
  • Sept. 25: at Florida - L
  • Oct. 2: at Missouri - L
  • Oct. 9: South Carolina - W
  • Oct. 16: Ole Miss - L
  • Oct. 23: at Alabama - L
  • Oct. 30: Bye
  • Nov. 6: at Kentucky -W
  • Nov. 13: Georgia - L
  • Nov. 20: South Alabama - W
  • Nov. 27: Vanderbilt -W

I think the above is doable if he can secure a DC capable of complimenting his offensive output that he has historically. I will even say The Missouri and Ole Miss games could be games that we steal for a stunning finish of 8-4. No real VFL could possibly be disappointed in a 8-4 season if that magic was to occur. I am not saying either scenario is likely but I am saying these are the goals I as a batter VFL would love to see met.
Honestly, I would take a 5-7 season if one of those wins is either against Bama, UF, or UGA and a three-win season if we hit the trifecta. Wishful thinking I know.

If we are limiting the blowouts, showing some development, 6-6 and going bowling I will be ecstatic. A lot if that will depend on the eye-test. I need to see them getting better, and being creative schematically. We will need that component to overcome our deficiencies.

we still have better roster than 9 of the teams on the schedule next year. I think 8-4 is very doable. 9-3 with a break.

I don’t see 8 or 9 wins even with the biggest of breaks. I believe there is talent on this team that JH is inheriting. UT has been at a major talent disadvantage for all our first-year coaches hired after Fulmer. You could argue that JH is taking over a team with a better roster than KIFF, Dools, CBJ, and Pruitt did in their first years. It is easy for many of us to assume this is a 3 or 4 win team because of the horrible coaching and lack of development we had to witness the last few years. Can JH coach them up? The lack of actual coaching has been our biggest obstacle. This team will have some strengths but too many glaring weaknesses to reach 8 or 9 victories. I think 5 or 6 wins is a safe bet.

Can we all agree if CJH can pull off 7-5 next year he is initially a successful hire? Looking at the schedule and if he can get a DC to match his apparent offensive genius then I don't think 7-5 is impossible..
Gonna have to go 9-3 to 11-1 and win the East for some on here to consider it successful.

We were never full strength with Pruitt.
We're going to lose to Bama, Florida and Georgia, badly.

Kiffin will throttle us also.

And at this point, with 25 players in the Portal, there's no way in hell I'm going to mark games at Kentucky and at Missouri as wins. Is it possible we could win one? Yes, likely, no.

Count the 3 cupcakes as W's and that leaves a likely win against Vandy (not impossible to lose to Vandy or a cupcake though, not likely but not impossible) and that leaves Pitt and South Carolina as true toss ups. 5 wins- would be a good job against that schedule next year, 6 would be great.

Have you guys been keeping up with potential staff targets? If these predictions come true, I would seriously temper the expectations for wins down to like 3 maybe 4.
