7-5...

I count 23 from this year who have either gone somewhere else already or are in the portal and have neither committed elsewhere nor said they were coming back. 24 if you count the Brooks kid, our highest rated recruit who asked to and probably will get out of his NLI. It was 25 but Austin Pope came back so 24.

2021 Football Transfer Portal

So some of those guys can still opt back in like Henry T. or Crouch?

I like to consider myself an optimist.

But I don't see how RB will be much better. We lost Gray and Chandler and picked up Tiyon Evans to go with Beckwith, Hodge and Small. Push at best.

WR, QB and TE I agree though.

OL is a question mark with Morris, Trey, ole man Kennedy and potentially J. Johnson gone. But we will have a new OL coach not named Friend and Spraggins will only get better. We haven't seen the best from the Mays Bros and Wright either. Calbert and Carvin returning too!

On defense: We need some transfer portal help at CB and hopefully Henry T and Crouch stay put. We also desperately need edge rushers. Come-on Big Kat!
The same DL who were good in 2019 took a step back in 2020. That's coaching and we need a very good DL coach. Most of DL returns.
Evan is better than Chandler right now! Brown and Beckwith are both bigger and faster than Chandler. He tripped in the backfield on his own 2 feet several times. He ran hard and tried but he wasn't very fast and not super powerful. Sorry but we are alot more talented in the backfield now even with Gray gone. IMHO! GBO!

Of those still in the transfer portal: Henry T, Crouch and J. Johnson are the only big hits to worry about. More concerned that we don't have any more additions to it.

Yeah it hurt to lose Lawrence, Gray, Chandler and Morris. Even D. Johnson.

Looks like Pope and Shamburger are staying and I heard Henry T was enrolled at UT.

It also still shows Big Kat as a transfer in. Fingers crossed.

We will likely get boat raced by Ole Miss
As I posted above, I don't see it. They're basically the UK of the West. AKA a toss-up. People have a really high opinion of Kiffin around here, for some reason. If someone else was coaching them I doubt anyone sees that game as a probable loss and even with him, Heuplel seems to have the edge when they're on equal footing. I still say it's a close game, even after the transfers.

Gray was good but very weak. I think Evans as will be better than him day 1. I like Small and Brown much more than Chandler.

If we could get a couple DL from the portal would really help.

Sure would but my top priorities would be getting help at CB and Edge (with or without Big Kat commit sticking).

Too bad Trinity Bell tore his ACL. He would have the DE/TE we dreamed of for years.

You look at Bama and Georgia and they always have big strong fast running backs. Now they may have another type to come in but we used to spit out quality fast strong runners, over the last few years we haven't had that big fast downhill runner. We had become scat back u. You need to have a running back nobody wants to tackle. GBO!!!!!

You are setting yourself up for quite the disappointment.

TN fan way. Then they'll get bent and go to Twitter and down the coach and program. IF CJH shows progress and EARNS the right for more than 3yrs I hope the base can sustain from being so toxic it hurts our chances to continually improve. We got a good AD. Plowman and Boyd want athletics to succeed. First time since Fulmer was gone I've felt the admin is competent enough that the program can actually find some footing.

we still have better roster than 9 of the teams on the schedule next year. I think 8-4 is very doable. 9-3 with a break.

This is where the disconnect is.

No, you don’t have a better roster. Right now, you don’t even have a roster.

Heupel has played Kiffy twice, with similar talent. Lane got boat raced, both times.

There is not similar talent at UCF and FAU.

Stop.

It’s like saying it’s the same level of talent between Memphis and Middle Tennessee State

I see 4 likely wins, 2 tossups, 3 likely losses, 3 no chances.

I have 4 likely wins, 4 toss ups (SC, Mizzu, KY, and Pitt), 2 likely losses (Ole Miss and UF) and 2 no chances (Bama and UGA).

Looking at their composite recruiting ranking, UCF was, 65th, 55th, 62nd, and 60th from 2016 - 2019. FAU was 89th, 60th, 75th, and 61st. I admittedly don't follow either team a whole lot. But what are you basing that claim of a large Talent gap on? It looks like UCF is a marginally better, but not nearly that much.

That's 43 spots worse over 4 years.

  • Sept. 4: Bowling Green - W
  • Sept. 11: Pittsburgh - L
  • Sept. 18: Tennessee Tech -W
  • Sept. 25: at Florida - L
  • Oct. 2: at Missouri - L
  • Oct. 9: South Carolina - W
  • Oct. 16: Ole Miss - L
  • Oct. 23: at Alabama - L
  • Oct. 30: Bye
  • Nov. 6: at Kentucky -L
  • Nov. 13: Georgia - L
  • Nov. 20: South Alabama - W
  • Nov. 27: Vanderbilt -W

5-7 at best.

I am concerned about the Pitt games because it is so early in the year, but Mizzou is not great. They are improving, but they aren't great, especially defensively. The same can be said for Ole Miss, although I do think they will score a LOT on everybody they play, so I certainly wouldn't be surprised to lose that one. I think the offense should be ticking pretty well by Kentucky, and they are hardly an offensive jargonaut. I think that is a possible win, even on the road.

Those are the four swing games, IMO.

I think 4-5 wins is more realistic for 2021. I just don’t think they are going to be able to stop anyone and I’m not convinced there are enough weapons offensively on this team.

We are still dealing with COVID limitations which will hurt spring ball. Even under normal circumstances, it would take a lot going right to install an offense. I just don’t see it happening this year.

Can we all agree if CJH can pull off 7-5 next year he is initially a successful hire? Looking at the schedule and if he can get a DC to match his apparent offensive genius then I don't think 7-5 is impossible..
I'll make it simpler than that since we really don't know what he'll be able to pull together on D. If the O averages 34 ppg (10 more than any UT O in the last 4 years) then I'll call that a success. TERRIBLE offense has been the main characteristic of this decline. I suspect any successful climb out of this hole will start with fielding an O that scores points in bunches. That may sacrifice the D by putting them on the field more.

That's true.
My spectrum is 7-5 to 10-2.

Not beating UGA or BAMA for a while.

Mullen isn't building trust and stability at UF. If we can match his offense, I like our chances. Whos his QB next season? Defense is full of dummies. Mullen can still coach his tail off.

Talent was not our problem last year. Just bad understanding of football from top to bottom. Need Peter Baeilish Fulmer to stay far away from the program.

You think the UF defense is lacking?
