You could say the same thing about your statement. Elliot has had far more opportunities than Chadwell, he just chose to stay at Clemson. You don’t get nfl interviews if you aren’t well regarded just in terms of football.
Don’t care about NFL interviews. We’re not an NFL team with draft picks

You want to talk about diversions Elliot would be a solid and reasonable diversion. He doesn't excite everyone, but he isn't meh either. Perfect to keep us occupied why DW fights for his big gun confidentially
I've never really understood the idea of diversion in a coaching search.
If you have a viable location and the $, you dont need a diversion to pull it off.
It's one thing to run a tight ship and keep information close. Its another to send the media and fanbase off on trails that lead nowhere.
Similar to the AD search (which happened a lot quicker than most thought) I dont think White or the Admin is feeding the media info to distract them from what they are doing. Fans want info and the media fills in the blanks with more opinion than fact. They have to say something, those doing the hiring dont.

Maaaaan, how fun is this? We finally fired Pruitt and Fulmer, we then realized we have some serious big time admin in Plowman and Boyd, the younger big money boosters decided to break out the wallets, hired a top 4 AD, we’re about to hire a top tier HC and spring ball is around the corner.

Smiling from ear to ear this morning...

I said it’s great to be a Tennessee Vol!!!

Peeps in UT admin ain’t playin’ this time around. That’s the message I got with AD hire, and when Donde said we’ll be playing for championships, along with White saying he could win championships at UT.... add AV making the FU$ comment.... I don’t believe anyone has mentioned the name yet. High hopes, expectations rising.....

There are proven head coaches and proven Offensive coordinators. Elliot is a proven OC. Maybe our new coach can persuade him to come as our OC.

I don’t know about disaster... They are two different types of people. One is viewed as an a**and the other is viewed as genuine good person. I think those differences alone make him more likely to succeed then Pruitt. Time will tell though. As it’s been said before there were several can’t miss coaches who have been misses. No matter who it is we won’t know how well the hire is until about year 3-4 depending on sanctions.
Bottom line is we wont know and will still remain so until White hires the coach. He said he will hire a sitting head coach and I'm gonna go with that until proven otherwise.

Exactly. This needs to be copied and pasted to the AD’s email.

Do you really think White needs our assistance? He just got a salary that will pay him a lot of money because he is considered one of the top 4 or 5 ADs in the country and has been terrific in his hires. He’s built successful athletic departments at Buffalo and UCF. I’m pretty sure he knows what he’s doing.

It was said in jest. But I still agree with the point.

That's how I feel about Kiffin. I can't stand the guy but I can see the excitement that he could generate around all aspects of the football program.

*Unfortunately, I don't think White is going to hire either one them.
He is for sure not hiring either one of them IMO. I am convinced it will be somebody we don't want or expect, but it will turn out to be a solid hire...at least I hope.

We are still in a bad situation, I think the hire of White has kind of obscured that fact. He is a good AD with an extremely hard job right now.

I’d take Tony Elliot over Neal Brown. Just can’t believe this AD is willing to risk the Coordinator route again. Elliot has the benefit of coaching the best players in the country in the worst power 5 conference. A luxury he wouldn’t have here. I think he could have success recruiting and his offense would be be decent but is it enough? Idk. I wouldn’t be thrilled but I’d buy into the hype by August’s and park my butt in the stadium like always.....
Clemson has traditionally recruited about on par with us, so he’s not doing it with Alabama or Georgia talent.

There is a common denominator tho when you look at what people from college are getting interviews and interest from NFL teams....

Ryan day, Lincoln Riley, Urban Meyer, Dan Mullen, Matt Campbell, and Tony Elliot..... that’s the list.

Tony isn’t on there by mistake. I’m tired of overthinking coaching hires. Ties, background, record, resume, etc there’s no science to it. Like we talked about earlier when is the last time the home run hire actually worked. Just get someone that’s well respected and let’s see what they can do.

Campbell threads are going up on vq repeatedly
I know he’s the hit thing right now but I just can’t get that excited over him. He was a hot name last time too but he reminds me a lot of Jones in that his record is ok but nit spectacular. The buzz is because Iowa state has always sucked but so have their opponents. So to me that boils down to a good coach that still has a lot to prove rather than a home run. UT is a mess playing in a conference that outsiders simply can’t conceptualize until they get here (even Jones spoke to that and his initial skepticism that things were that much different here). But things ARE that much different here and you have to be great elsewhere just to compete here.

Based on insider speculation and rumors, I went to bed last night thinking DW was meeting with his first HC choice last night and it was all but done.

Now I’m seeing stuff about Elliot and I feel like we wiffed on our number 1. True?

With Tony Elliott calling plays and being involved in the game planning Clemson has
In 2015- Hung 40 on Bama
In 2016 Hung 31 on Ohio St and 35 on Bama
In 2018 Hung 30 on ND and 44 on Bama
In 2019 Hung 29 on Ohio St and 25 on LSU
So, Miss me with the they don't play anyone BS, his offenses have scored points on good teams aka teams with even talent.

Probably just teams satisfying the Rooney rule. I pay very little attention to NFL interviews

I’d like to see a detailed expanded list but from what I can gather hiring non sitting head coaches has had more success than hiring head coaches

assistant coaching hires
Day
Riley
Smartt
Pruitt
EdO
Pittman
I’ve got 5/6 success rate At present

head coaches hired
Lane
Mike leach
Herman
Jimbo
EliD
Taggert
Strong
Kelly
Frost
Satterfield
NealB

I’ve got 4/11 success rate at present
