You could say the same thing about your statement. Elliot has had far more opportunities than Chadwell, he just chose to stay at Clemson. You don’t get nfl interviews if you aren’t well regarded just in terms of football.
Exactly. And if Peyton is involved in this search and pointed out Elliott it makes me want him even more.

No experience. None. 0. We’ve done the coordinator route.

People are yelling recruiting ties! Pruitt had those. People are yelling elite offensive mind! They said the same about Pruitt’s defensive mind.

It would be incredibly stupid to fire a first time HC who was a coordinator for the best team in college football only to hire another first time HC who is a coordinator for the other best team in college football.

DISASTER
Elliot’s pretty far down my board because of lack of HC experience, but that being said Pruitt’s failures shouldn’t necessarily be an indictment on Elliot.

Hiring a coordinator just has too many unknowns. Could turn out great or, as we’ve seen, it could end in disaster.

Productive! Who got voted Treasurer?

Surprisingly, Judas Iscariot.
I never have figured that one out.

Edit for @Neyland Rising ... It's Monday at 3:53 as I type this ... I can't believe you are actually reading all the posts in this thread, believing you will catch up. If you stay awake 24/7/365 you might catch up to us long .... long, after we hire a coach and we all express our obligatory celibratory BOOMS!!! Good luck. We're cheering for you from the future.

In all honesty I just soon have Steele over Elliot. I mean either one of them guys and you are probably looking at another coaching search in 3 years anyway. Might as well stick with the one already in the building.

I gotta agree with you on this. To call Elliot a better coach than Chadwell is kind of dumb.
He could end up being a better coach than Chadwell... but right now, Chadwell IS a head coach and just won coach of the year.
Makes no sense to say Elliot is better, at this point at least.
Elliott isn't a HC because he has chosen not to be.

I doubt it but don’t know
That’s what makes it tough about hiring a coordinator. We like him based off of what he does as a coordinator/play calling abilities. I would much rather him call the plays at least for the first couple of years and hire someone like Steele or a proven SEC defensive coordinator and let him to his job.

I think fit matters to DW. I think talking to the players and what coaches say in interviews will matter - not just resumes. I don’t think they’ll go try to give 7 million to someone with good a resume if they don’t fit here and you think they are waiting for some other situation. I don’t know if Chadwell will even be looked at but that is something I like about him - I think he would have passion for UT (not just the money) and I think it would be his destination job. I’ll support whoever they hire.

I don't know if Tony Elliott would work out or not. That's the problem.

I just think for this supposed 7 million dollars per year we are helicopter slinging around, we could definitely find someone else with the same ceiling and a way higher floor shown by proven HC experience.

I'm sure whoever White hires will have a moderate chance at success here. But for the money being talked about, the coordinator route scares me. If he fails in 3-4 years, that's gonna be another big stain on a program that refuses to learn from its mistakes.

And not for nothing, I find it highly suspicious Dabo has never had an assistant become a successful HC. Not even remotely close.

I’d take Tony Elliot over Neal Brown. Just can’t believe this AD is willing to risk the Coordinator route again. Elliot has the benefit of coaching the best players in the country in the worst power 5 conference. A luxury he wouldn’t have here. I think he could have success recruiting and his offense would be be decent but is it enough? Idk. I wouldn’t be thrilled but I’d buy into the hype by August and park my butt in the stadium like always.....

Chadwell wasn’t my first choice, but if we actually did swing and miss on all our top targets and we’re unwilling to forgive Lane (ridiculous IMO) then hire Chadwell. I do not think people understand how critical head coaching experience is to being successful at a major college football program going through what we’re going through.

You aren’t just calling plays and coaching up one side of the ball. You’re managing the personalities of 85 18-21 year olds and 20ish on field staff. You’re conversing with big money donors and serving as the face of what is essentially a Fortune 500 company in the sports world.

No more shock and awe. We need someone who isn’t going to be learning on the job. Even G5 experience is better than no experience. Give me Chadwell if we’re seriously considering Elliot.

Oh, and you can get Chadwell for CHEAP and spend tons of money on a staff. Elliot would milk us dry just to come here.

I finally got around to catching up on the new Athletic Director and started doing a bit more research on possible coaching candidates. I like White. I read some articles on his career and on him as a person and listened to his press conference. He’s got a big job and is walking into a mess with regards to the football program but I think he has the right attitude and vision.

Matt Campbell is the only coach outside of those with SEC head coaching experience that I’ve looked at in any kind of depth so far. I think he might have a good shot at getting us back on track. It may take some time but I think he operates with the right culture from what I can find. While at ISU his teams have consistently ranked around #56 in the 247 team talent composite but he’s taken those guys and beat more talented teams including OU a couple times, a ranked TCU team, a ranked Texas team, and a ranked OSU team among others. In a way he reminds me of White. Their approach to a challenge appears to be honest hard work and accountability.

Obviously we all know our history with Kiffin and while I think he’s likely matured somewhat since those days I think Campbell might be the better pick between the two. I think the same goes with Freeze. All three I think are potential winners as coaches. I'm a big fan of Kiffin but I've always thought he had been spoiled a bit when he was younger. I don't know if that can ever totally go away but obviously he has been humbled a bit since he was here.

Dooley, Butch, and Pruitt, in retrospect should have never been considered candidates for the job here. I’m basing that on their prior resumes. I don’t think we should hire a Scott Frost because there’s a big leap from G5 to P5 in my opinion and I don’t think we should hire another coordinator.

I think recruiting rankings or team talent composites are defined by the team/school moreso than the coach. Regardless of who our coach is we’re going to recruit pretty well. We may not be consistently in the top 5 but top 15 is easily doable. I suspect if you gave Campbell a top 15 talented team he would have a good shot at doing even better than he did with a top 60 talented team. So far in looking at possible candidates he seems to me at this point to be the most proven at the P5 level. jmo.

You have way better write-ups then most of the sports media folks swarming around UT football like flies around Jimmy’s gumbo.

Maaaaan, how fun is this? We finally fired Pruitt and Fulmer, we then realized we have some serious big time admin in Plowman and Boyd, the younger big money boosters decided to break out the wallets, hired a top 4 AD, we’re about to hire a top tier HC and spring ball is around the corner.

Smiling from ear to ear this morning...

I said it’s great to be a Tennessee Vol!!!

Me and my son were talking last night, and I told him that for the first time in my football life (no nod to NFL Network) we were about to swing for the fences for a HC, after swinging for the fences and hitting a grand slam home run for AD!

I concur ... It IS great to be a Tennessee Vol!
