It would IGNITE MOST of the fanbase based on the potential SEC Championship every few years. But, a lot of the fanbase would still be divided when UT FIRES a COACH for INABILITY to CONTROL HIS STAFF and HIRING ONE THAT DID THE SAME AS WELL AS PARTICIPATED in the RECRUITING VIOLATIONS!!! It may be proven that Pruitt participated as well. But, I doubt it. I think UT lawyers were LOOKING to FIRE FOR CAUSE, not to hang Pruitt with a SHOW CAUSE on top of it. That would be MUCH WORSE for UT as well!!!

Number 2, even if UT offered him the job, with possible big sanctions coming, he's not going to want the job. He will go somewhere where he can have success immediately.

Look for a very safe, unexciting hire. Not a no-name hire like in years past, but not someone who excites you.

Also, the next coach at UT will not be the one to lead UT back to a championship. It will be the one after him.

It really doesn't matter to the SEC. If the Vols REALLY are in chaos, no attendance, the games suck...... ESPN will show more Mizzou, SC, KY, whichever is decent and provides more eyeballs.

Somehow thinking the SEC "needs" UT to be competitive in football ignores the years of awful KY and AR teams we destroyed and carried in the previous TV deal. The SEC needs eyeballs. If KY implodes (as they are) as a BBall school and rises as a football school, more eyeballs. If Kiffin ignites Ole Miss..... gets Arch...... more eyeballs. aTm brings eyeballs every year now.

I reject this notion that "The SEC wants and needs UT to fill the seats and succeed." Sure, they're fine if we do but they're fine if we don't for several years.

Some of you on this board are CLUELESS. The SEC eats up and spits out average to above average coaches. Campbell isn't a home run hire! His team has a 35-28 record in the Big 12!!! His team also lost to Sun Belt W Champion Louisiana, team coached by Cookeville born Billy Napier. UT would more than likely be much better with Napier or Chadwell, TN born!!!

While I don't think Freeze will be hired, Ole Miss fired him for the hookers, not anything related to the NCAA. They were fully backing him through that. Only when the hooker stuff came out was he fired and Ole Miss specifically cited his morals clause as the reason.

No, they won't! If so, THEY ARE MORE INEPT than ANY OF US IMAGINED. And, that is close to impossible to fathom!!! Why would they be quite about it when signing day is two 15 days away??? Do you think UT is going to do better on the official NSD WITHOU A HC than announcing Steele?????

For Gods sake, the integrity remarks were nothing more than a PR stunt. Did you expect them to say we'll hire a guy who won't get caught next time?

The first person I'd make say no is Chris Peterson. Do I think its likely we get him or he'd want to come here, no....but I'd hand him the checkbook and tell him to name his price. Only after we gave him the same treatment that Bama gave ol Nicky boy, and he still walk, would I then back the truck up to Liverty U and move Freeze to Knoxville.

Peterson has been who I thought we should have made an offer to that he couldn't resist for a couple coaching searches now. There is no downside with him.

The people who know Campbell would be a great hire aren't the clueless ones here. He's an absolutely stellar coach and will be in the NFL soon most likely. He would be as good a hire as we could possibly make barring some crazy miracle where an active NC winning coach decided they wanted the job and I don't mean Les Miles either.

Like Tennessee fans care. Be honest The reason that upper management wanted him out is because he cheated. The reason the fan base wanted him out was because he sucked. With that being said upper management will not hire him because of his past off the field and the fan base wants him hired because of his history on the field. It is very simple when it comes to Pruitt and Freeze upper management didn't want Pruitt out and Freeze in but the fan base wanted the exact opposite.

Peterson isn't coming out of retirement for another college coaching job.
