He's the reason Gus was fired in 2020 and not 2016. I wouldn't say he's never done shiz.
I'd take him here as DC in a heartbeat, not as HC.
It's Auburn. Who knows exactly what went on there. But this is also WHY there is a red flag with Steele imo, if he and some boosters schemed to get Gus fired that's not the type of guy I'd want on my staff or trust.
I get that Auburn's defense improved under Steele and ultimately that helped their success since his hiring, but Gus won more games overall prior to Steele. I think losing his guys and having to fit in new pieces they weren't on the same page is more of a reason for his drop in success than the game "passing him by" I say that because other coaches running similar philosophies are getting high praise here...but Gus isn't. Seems weird to me, he's only got 9 years in as a HC I don't think he's done with the game yet.
Makes you wonder if Kirby turned UT in.
I have no problem with Phil up to the point of being "to involved" in the football team. If rumors are true that he "meddles" and "micromanages", then that's NOT good. The AD and coach need a good working relationship. I say AD as in Athletic Department. I don’t see fulmer being a negative thing in any form or fashion. Even if he is “too close” to the football program... he’s the one that signed off on all the insane amount of money and resources we gave Pruitt. There is MAYBE 5 current coaches who have more money, resources, and staff allotment than Pruitt has had.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if this was true. I also wouldn't be surprised if he told "silent commits" to continue to visit here and report back to him on what is going on and/or manage to get us in trouble while they are on campus. Recruiting is a very dirty business. AV has referred to Georgia's trash more than once.
