It isn't program suicide. You need to calm down, McGill. I'm not wanting to hire Marrone, but the guy has experience. He isn't going to come here and be Pruitt. He knows how to coach. Again, he took Jax to the AFC title game. On top of that, it seems likely that Steel and Garner are on his staff. That's two SEC coaches with experience coaching and recruiting at a high level in this league. Marrone also coached under Payton, he knows what a good offense looks like. He probably brings in a top notch OC. Can he recruit? Not sure. We know Garner can. I think he's a safe hire. Does he win championships? Idk. Does he go 4-8? Not imo. I think he's a stabilizing hire that might bridge us to the next guy.

Again, I'm not sure I want him, but if our options are he and Chadwell, and that appears to be the case, he's the safer of the two. Might not have as high of a ceiling, but I guarantee you he has a higher floor. Chadwell might get up here and get eaten alive in this league. I'm not sure.
Totally and emphatically disagree..I think it is a completely lifeless, boring hire that will lead us even further into the doldrums.

So it looks to me like the investigation is centered around Pruitt and Neids, two Bama guys, who may have paid two recruits. Those two recruits signed with Georgia, which is run by a Bama guy.

Not too many dots to connect there. If we are the only ones who get tagged during this I will be pissed.

* I’ve skipped a ton of pages lately just looking for a firing update so if my details are wrong or incomplete, my bad.

Chadwell likely brings his whole staff. South Carolina teased that out in the interview process. Marrone is not the most exciting name, but he brings immense experience and this job will not be too big for him. If he surrounds himself with an innovative OC and people like Steele and Garner, I will support that.
Marrone would absolutely have to bring in an A+ OC, like Joe Brady (not happening!) or Jamey Chadwell. This HC gig is much too big for Chadwell at this stage in his career. UT can’t afford to take that risk but I wouldn’t be shocked that they do something so off the charts incompetent. Steele/Garner for DC positions. I could get behind that choice if it was say our 3rd option. Don’t trust Fulmer and Steele together and I don’t want Steele anywhere near the possibility of being given the HC reigns.

None of them should be given HC consideration.

The only way that happens is if he clearly turns it around and wins...big. I ain't falling for a horse💩 mediocre mirage again.

I have no problem eating crow, and no desire to be proven right, but I honestly see no hope at all in hiring the dude. All I see is bore recruiting, boring coaching and boring gameplans.
And losses at the level we have already experienced or even worse.

I’m trying to work through the list of names that seem to be getting the most attention in this thread and I’m getting there.

Billy Napier – This search’s Scott Frost
Gus Malzahn – This search’s Les Miles
Hugh Freeze – This search’s Bobby Petrino
Kevin Steele – This search’s Jeremy Pruitt
Lane Kiffin – This year’s Lane Kiffin
Jamey Chadwell – This search’s runner up for Scott Frost

I don’t know much about Fisher and Marrone but at a glance I think I’d go with Fisher out of the two. I do think we need a CEO as a head football coach and someone specifically that can handle the pressure of the job at UT. I think to some degree all three of our most recent head coaches have come unraveled as their tenures here wound down.

I really think we should have hired Jon Gruden in 2012 and that would have been his window in my opinion. I’ve always thought we needed to do a splash hire to reinvigorate the program. We need instant credibility especially in recruiting. We recruit well enough to field a mid-tier SEC team but fans are never going to accept that as a goal. We have to figure out a way to compete with the best and I think it starts with consistently out-recruiting the best. Obviously that’s a tall order but I really think that’s what we’re up against.

I’ve seen some suggestions that the new coach wouldn’t be facing as much of a rebuild as some of our other recent coaches but I disagree. We’ve been is a rebuilding mode for considerably more than a decade and we can’t even sustain getting a foundation in place before the house caves in. We’re hiring production home builders to build a mega mansion with all the best of high end luxuries and that task is way out of their league. It’s seems our plan is and always has been to catch lightning in a bottle. It’s unlikely we’re going to find success – at least not on our own. If the rest of the big six in the conference would implode then maybe but we’re not going to catch them in their current stride unless we kick in some afterburners. jmo.

The cost for who we need is probably around $10 million per year and total CEO-like control. The cost for what we’ll probably get is likely $4 million and micromanagement from a bunch of losers behind the scenes. Same song fourth verse. jmo.

So here’s the challenge – they’re not coming here but who can you think of that might be worth paying $10 million a year to and working out an arrangement to where other than compliance everyone else at UT is hands off everything below the head coach. There’s not a lot of options and we’re not trying to be realistic here. Realistic won’t get us anywhere that we haven’t already been. If we can't get Lincoln Riley then I’m thinking maybe we should go the Barnes route, you know, get a guy that was fired by the other UT. It might not even cost that much. Just a thought.

Well put.

But someone like Doug Marrone can beat Pitt, 3 cupcakes, Vandy, USCe, and even Mizzou and UK on a consistent basis because we have just as much talent and he has the football acumen. May have trouble at the beginning with Bama, UGA, and UF. But, he needs a few good recruiters, and talent will catch up.

Can you imagine Kirby Smart coaching in the NFL?

Kirby doesn’t strike me as being mature enough nor smart enough to be an NFL head coach.

The irony?

Bama has out recruited both schools over the last 10+ years.

I think both Marrone and Chadwell are unknowns. Marrone, with the right staff, may win big here. I think its dumb to say that we know that he wouldn't. Chadwell is more exciting. But we don't want to hire someone who comes up here and just gets eaten alive and goes 3-7 and 4-8 in his first two years and we're right back here again.

Chadwell is more exciting and by August I'll be at 15-0, but it is more risky imo. I'm just not sure we can afford the risk.
We may go 4-8 and 5-7 no matter who the coach is with the roster that may be left after we finish screwing over Pruitt. That is going to have severe repercussions imo. Think about all the young guys on the roster who along with their families are really tight with Jeremy...

That is a very sobering thought, and there nay not be anybody we could hire that will staunch that wound.

It would have been better just to fire him for his record instead of backstabbing him, and trying to screw him out of the money we agreed to pay him.

If it’s going to be Chadwell, Fulmer is going to need to tell him the smaller lineman thing will not work at all in the SEC. However, one could argue that Fulmer would be meddling again.

At CC he probably has to decide "Do I want big boys who can't move, or smaller guys that can, because I can't get those who are big and can move here."

At UT, he could recruit big dudes who can run.

Didn't USCe pass on Chadwell?

Unpopular opinion but I would’ve made Tee the HBC last search and would definitely do it this time around. He has passion for the T and I believe he would put together a great staff. I know he gets a lot of hate on this board but that’s my 2 cents. Back to lurking 👀
Here we go again with this Tee crap , If Tee had played at any other school besides Tenn, you would not be making this post. Tee has done nothing for a statement like this. He cant even coach his WR to get open.
