He doesn't run it in a traditional way is the point. Someone had the offensive stats in here a few pages ago. They have basically equal rushing and passing yards. This isn't a traditional triple option offense. Paul Johnson only passed to surprise teams. CC passes the ball all over the field.
Ahh yeah thats fair, it definitely is not the traditional Army, PJ Triple-Option. They were something like 65% run this year at CC with play-action spliced in. He runs it really up-tempo too which at the least would be a fun change from Chaney's run middle, run left, 3 yard cross, punt play calling.

Hubbs with a follow up on his Steele comment...

Kevin knows plenty of people surrounding Tennessee. I'm sure Steele and Pruitt have spoken as they are friends. Steele is getting paid alot of money the next two years to not coach at Auburn. I'm sure Pruitt would love to have Steele on his staff in some role.

Now, can Pruitt hire someone right now? Reports say he can't. I'm not sure if he has offered anyone a job yet.

I still want to know who's responsible for our offense. VQ says that Pruitt doesn't micromanage Chaney. But when in his history has Chaney ran the ball 2 times, play action on 3rd and long, punt. That was our offense under Jim Chaney nearly every series.

I'm not sure if Chadwell would be a great hire or not. Risky for sure. But he doesn't run the triple option, guys. This isn't like hiring Paul Johnson so that rhetoric needs to stop.

I'm also not sure If I would want to risk a hire with a guy who has never coached in the power 5 at a place like TN that is currently a dumpster fire, or if I'd rather go the safe route with a Marrone or Fisher who could hire a great staff and stabilize this thing with their experience.
If it is an absolute must that a coach has been at a P5 school, and they won't hire Freeze then they should call Justin Wilcox. He is doing well at Cal.

Steele has the same setup as Butch did and is in a position to do something similar. He provides a lot of flexibility for UT. He's an experienced defensive mind who could wear multiple hats and help provide continuity for whatever. And yes, he could play many roles, depending on the outcome of the investigation. People get so locked into one idea while UT is looking at options.

He's def not Paul Johnson. But he runs 67% of the time. That will not be successful in the SEC. He's gotta have better balance and a dynamic passing game instead of mostly PA passes

Pros/Cons of hiring Chadwell:

Pros:
• Tennessee fan growing up and from East Tenn
•winner everywhere he has been
•potential game changing offense
•built winning culture every stop he’s made
•really young for a head coach
•high risk high reward

•Cons:
•has never coached in a P5 conference
•?’s about recruiting ability
•Offense will need adjusting if it were to work in SEC
•high risk high reward

We could easily pull Chadwell here for cheap, and only way he could workout well is if we invest in a good coaching staff for him. He is very high risk/reward.
So you think this is kinda high risk/high reward type coach?

J/K....... Anyway he sounds like just the type of person UT would hire!! Wash, rinse, repeat........ See everyone back here looking for coaches in another 3-4 yrs.

Geez, come on you bunch of overpaid idiots get it rite for once!!!!! You have 1 job!!!!!!

To win in the SEC you have to be able to recruit as good as Georgia, Alabama, LSU & Florida and you have to be innovative enough to stay ahead of the trend like Bama has been with offense dominant play. Who checks those two boxes?

1) Freeze
2) Lane
3) Chadwell
1,240) Marrone
5,600) Fisher
That's my top 3 too and I don't like Kiffin, but I believe he can win big here.

Out of those 3, Lane would concern me the most. I could see him jetting off on National Signing Day, if the NFL, bama, TOSU, or even fla was to call him. I don't trust LK.

If Pruitt stays, and brings on Steele, do you think we have a shot at hiring Gardner?

It took me 3 seconds to talk myself into Chadwell so now he will probably turn us down and Fulmer will reach out to his big 3:

Steele
Clawson
Sanders
