And the end of college football begins..

Tennessee fans: “WE SHOULD PAY BIG MONEY TO A COACH LIKE 7-8M PER YEAR”

Also Tennessee fans: “Ugh paying players ruins amateurism this is going to ruin college sports.”
Athletes ARE compensated. If it's not enough for them... go do something else that makes more money like any other person would. Again... they don't HAVE to play. Its their choice. If I don't like my compensation, I go do something else to make more.

the government will eventually order all schools to pay players some nice money each month and give them a big % of sales of jerseys, video games, ticket revenues, concessions, etc. They'll really cash in!

Watch what you eat boys....the man will be wanting you to **** just once a week before long

I don’t have a problem with the kids getting some kind of weekly/monthly stipend for spending money, etc.
Seems like they forget they are getting a college education for “free” that can be worth $100k at the low end and much more than that at some private schools

My son attended UT getting 100 percent of his education for free through scholarships. Should he not have been allowed to profit off his own image if there was a demand for it? I'm not sure why playing sports, especially football and basketball where the schools make tens of millions of dollars per year off the endeavors of the players, should bar them from making money off their own likeness. It's anti-American to prevent people from making money legally.

Ah, so you are a fan of stripping away the potential earnings and suppressing wages of someone based on the individuality of a person that can profit off their name and likeness because some organization that answers to no one says so.

So you are a socialist.

You know who else stripped athletes and their ability to make a profit off their name and likeness because they want to keep those athletes in check?

The Soviet Union.

This is the most ignorant post I think I've ever read. Are you high? Or 16 yo? Just screwing around? Or do you have no idea what socialism really means? My post is LITERALLY the antithesis of socialism. This country really is ****ed.

Everyone in this country can make a profit off their name and likeness. You can make money off your name and likeness. I can make money off my name and likeness. It’s been part of this country’s identity for centuries. So why doesn’t it bother you that NCAA athletes can’t? How come they should just accept what is given to them when every other American has that right?

Weird how all these people worrying about amateurism in this thread haven’t responded to this yet 🤔🤔🤔

Making a profit off of your name and likeness isn't a right. In fact... making a profit from anything isn't a right. Again... college athletes are, in fact, compensated. If they don't think it is enough compensation, they have the CHOICE to take it or leave it. Its really simple.

Let’s say we got a top notch 19 year old student named Julie majoring in chemistry at the University of Tennessee. She’s got a free ride and free room and board because she was a top chemistry high school student in the country. She is also cute and funny and creative and decides “Hey! I’m gonna start a YouTube series doing cool chemistry experiments!” And it explodes! She gets millions of views for every video she makes and gets to monetize off of this, then parlays that into advertising deals using her name and likeness! How cool is that! She is able to use that money to help get a nicer apartment, buy herself a car and sweet Julie is able to help out her dad and mom a little bit since mom is disabled and dad lost hours because of COVID. It’s a great, sweet American story!

But wait! You see, the NCCA (National Collegiate Chemistry Association) says that’s not allowed because it’s unfair for her to profit off her name and likeness. Even though the University has increased enrollment and makes more money because of her name and promoting the university. And the NCCA promoted her as a top chemistry student and people tuned in to watch her videos. They says that disqualifies her from being a student so now she can’t participate in chemistry classes for an entire year as punishment and the University if Tennessee Chemistry Department loses funding and can’t participate in internships. And Julie can’t really go anywhere else for chemistry classes because the NCCA controls all collegiate chemistry related activities. Julie can’t sue or do anything.

Do you people not see how stupid that is? Are you people really that dense?

Hey Jeff, does your job restrict you from making money off your name and likeness? Can you make extra money on the side doing whatever the hell you want as long as it doesn’t interfere with your current work?

Seems like paying players and allowing athletes to make money from their likeness are two separate issues. Having the school share in profits makes the players professional, IMO.
I do believe any athlete should be allowed to make money outside of the university. If some place wants to pay the stud QB to come to their business and sign autographs, that’s good old fashion capitalism and should be allowed.

It’s absolutely illogical. It’s a business enterprise where “wages” are suppressed under the guise of an outdated ideal and ignores the existence of the bag man that exists just about everywhere.

Amateurism died when college coaches stopped teaching and the NCAA started selling television rights to the tournament like 40 years ago. It’s amazing how dense and ignorant people are.

The SEC is gonna receive MORE THAN $300 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR from ESPN in a few years to televise football games and you people legitimately think that letting players make money from their likeness will be the death of college sports.

God what hypocrites.

Exactly, the university is compensating them with a full ride, and shouldn't have to pay more. Not that shouldn't give them control over a player's likness rights. Olympic athletes get paid for autographs, likeness, and endorsements. It's absurd that college athletes can't.
