And the end of college football begins..

Once again, Devonta Smith can go professional anytime he wants and do all the commercials he wants anytime he wants to, he just can't play amateur sports when he makes that decision.

He actually can’t (well Smith is a senior he actually could have but you get the gist) because there isn’t a professional football league in America that allows players three years past high school. Basketball you could maybe make that argument or for baseball but you can’t for football. It puts them in even a bigger bind.

If the NCAA had done their job to begin with we would not have a need for Congress to get involved...but they ignored it and their incompetence resulted in where we are today.

Another bill sponsored for no other reason than to score political points during the fundraising and election cycles...
I'm pretty sure that's how all this pathology works, for every politician. Sometimes the payoff is a little more direct.

So you're now saying they benefit having a league (NCAA) to showcase their skills and we should be paying them in order to allow them to showcase their skills? Why have a University at all then? We need minor league football, lol, like that's going to work. Sports are dropping at a rapid rate all across the country at both the HS level and college. $$$ is killing amateur sports and once you kill it kids will stop playing as 95 percent of every athlete to ever play never make it past the amateur level. All you're doing by paying is adding a few more to the professional level and doing more damage to an already damaged amateur level. The NBA Gold medal Dream Team was the start to the decline of amateur sport and they only happened because of ego and $$$.

Ridiculous to compare actual working for a living to playing an amateur sport. You don't have to accept how you are treated once you are grown and in the real world working for a living, when you play sports, any sport, you choose to play as an amateur or professional, if you choose amateur you must play by the rules of that amateur sport, if you choose professional then you have a say in what you think your value is. I don't know anyone that thinks turning college or HS sports into professional sport is a good idea.

You ever notice how really commies try and twist the definition of a commie? College sports are amateurism for a reason. It doesn't need government intrusion.

If Cory Booger and his bad of loons have a hand in it then can bet it's a bad idea.

Just curious what that reason is?

Wait, so the commies are the ones who think athletes should be able to make whatever their worth in the free market? SMH 🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️

They already get excellent medical care but the revenue sharing will be a nightmare. Unions will be jumping in on this soon enough and Democrats will demand players have the right to bargain. Yes, it's over and college football will take the worst of it. It won't resemble the traditional game in 10 years
Three years.

Do all interns get paid during internships?

There are basic rules around amateur status. My guess is part of that is to not create a circus around college athletics. Just because you think the government should raise the minimum wage to $20 an hour doesn't make it a good idea. Agents on college campuses like pimps around all the athletes.

Amateur vs. Professional Athletes – Education

Amateurism

Three years.
IMO, allowing athletes to make endorsement money hasn’t diminished the Olympics. If anything it has made it better. Guys like Michael Phelps, Carl Lewis and Usain Bolt would not have stuck around for multiple Olympics if they had to live broke.

People act like college football is some pure form of sport. College football has a long proud history of recruiting hired guns to play football. Depending on the school, most of these kids could not get into the school on their academic record. Look at Justin Fields. Lives off campus, takes online classes, and spends most of his time playing football. So him making some local car commercials is now going to ruin the spirit of college football? Laughable.

And we are just one generation from freedom.
I’m actually 3 generations from slavery just like most of the players that play for Tennessee. Most of y’all that are complaining about having to pay players have no problem with Tennessee continuing to blow millions/year on worthless white coaches so yeah these players need to be compensated. If the state of Tennessee can let companies like Amazon come to Tennessee tax free under the the excuse that they generate jobs and revenue without any of you having a problem with it then you shouldn’t have any problem with these revenue and job generating athletes making money.
