Last time Florida was a 17.5 pt favorite we won by 2..... it’s Thursday boys. Time to ride the roller coaster up for the good ole 3rd qtr nut kick Saturday!!
I should have checked my calendar for Nut Kick Saturdays before the season started. Could have made arrangements.

1. he took over at a program that was already experiencing great success, having won 2 SEC titles in the previous 3 years before he took over.
2. QB wasn't an issue with AK, Heath Suler and Peyton Manning/Brandon STewart all in the fold during his very early years
3. recruiting wasn't what it is today....it's just different now than it was then, and Fulmer was very good at it then.
4. stability on the staff. you can't discount it. it did make a difference. TN had an identity offfensively and defensively....and two coordinators that were very good....cutcliffe you could argue was elite.
5. the rest of the conf wasn't great....TN and UF were 1 and 2. Bama, Auburn, UGA, were in that 3,4, 5 spot, but none of them were at the same level TN and FL were. the rest of the conf was mediocre at best.
6. revenue sharing wasn't what it is today. top tier programs could out spend on coaches and facilities, and outspending back then wasn't millions/year. i remember when fulmer hit 1m/year salary and it was WELL in to his 16 years here, and i think it was after he won the natty? now everyone pays $2+M/year for coaches, everyone has money to upgrade facilities, and most have....the playing field for coaches' salaries, facilities etc...are more equal today than they ever have been.
7. TV...back then you still had the JP gow and ppv games. so TV exposure was still a selling point. and we were gonna be on TV, nationally 9 or 10 weeks out of 11 every year....plus bowl game....
8. no social media. oh, if there was social media...thank goodness there wasn't....
9. NFL pipeline....we were always at/near the top of any list of programs that sent kids to the NFL....

no, it's not going to be replicated in the same manner becuase most all of the dynamics of college football and the SEC in particular have changed dramatically....i don't think you'll ever see us get back to the point where we can dominate the league like we did in the 90's/earlly 00's or be one of the top 2 like we were back then.

it's crowded at the top right now, and Bama is still on top....and UGA, BAma, UF, LSU, Auburn, aTm all are headed in the same direction.

what i believe though is that this program has everything you need to be a top 10 program nationally and be in the top 4 or 5 of this conference, and being in the discussion to win the division regularly.

the only thing we don't have right now is momentum from actually doing anything on the field. we've been great at generating off season and off field mojo at various points in the past 8 years. but it has never translated to results on the field. til it does...it's just hype.

we need win a game that matters....preferrably earlier in the season so it makes later games matter more....we need to be relevant in Oct and Nov....not pitter out beore the 1st month of the season is over.

you know, beat FL in Sept more than once in 15 years, and see what you can do against UGA and Bama in October? make those games relevant for more reason than being a speed bump on UGA's or Bama's road to ATL....our season, far too many times, has been basically over after Sept., in terms of competing for the division.

and losing that game early, which is usually a big visit weekend, sucks, becuase all those big time recurits will contiue to go to games later in the year htat actually matter.

while we're dicking around with USCe, MO, Vandy, UK late in the year, those 5*'s are going to epic games UF/UGA, AUB/Bama, LSU/BAma etc......

one of the reasons i liked the fact the SEC changed the schedule around a bit and put that UGA game in November.....we need to be in games that matter later in the season....but we need to first put ourselves in position that they would matter.

tl/dr.....freaking beat somebody....earlier the better....sooner the better.
Jake still king of the TL;DR posts I see! haha never change!

Where’s the history of this behavior before Texas? Someone who can recruit elite players to HOUSTON has to have some likeable qualities. Texas can chew you up and he’s still not a failure there. We’re not talking 4 wins or even 5. His ceiling’s as high as he can rebound from merely winning a majority of his games at a program that gets itchy if you don’t go undefeated. I’m not even stumping for him to land in Knoxville, but if he did we’d be better.
We're not far off from each other on him. I agree he'd probably be an upgrade over Pruitt, but you could have said the same about Butch over Dooley.

As for his maturity issues before getting to Texas, while I wouldn't ever use Zach Smith to prosecute my case, from what I have read his allegations about Herman's days at tOSU have more than a little truth to them. Herman also had a big feud with a local radio guy (Nick Wright) in Houston, and his players weren't real happy about the way he left that program.

He did recruit very well at Houston, getting Ed Oliver to stay home, and his classes at Texas 2018-2020 were great to elite, but like Butch, I think a lot of that comes from selling a vision of a program that never fully materialized. Once the same problems keep happening, players begin to question the sacrifices being demanded of them.

I didn't think so, if we lose our get rid of Chaney prepare yourselves for a google replacement.
Not so sure about that. Pruitt had a bang up list he interviewed (apparently)...he just unfortunately chose Chaney. Maybe he laps back around to one of his other guys, though Yurcich is the only one likely looking. Lebby and Briles are just, ya know, succeeding on 1st year teams in the West...smh.

Terrible take, Gojira. Chaney is the highest paid OC in the country yet statistically has almost the worst offense in the country. Being positive is one thing, but being delusional is another.
Give him Harrison all year and he's worth that money. Anyone would have the worst offensive production with JG at the helm.

I've been down on Chaney most of the year. Looking back, not sure if Chaney or Pruitt's leash and JGs limitations were the issue. Hopefully the leash is off and Bailey allows him to be more open. A red flag to me was Palmer's comment that now they know the "why" of what they are doing. Should be one of the first things you instill.

Stuff like this makes you a legend when your team comes out and destroys their opponent. When you get smothered in the game (24-10 loss to Baylor that wasn't that close), it makes people wonder about you:

I trust Chaney to be a solid OC if left alone.

I blame Pruitt for most of the issues with the play calling

I think stability with Chaney is more important than a change right now. Next year 7-8 wins is possible and I think Chaney IF ALLOWED to do his job is the man for the job.
The definition of insanity is...well you know the saying. Pruitt and Chaney are clearly not a combo that produces offense, whoever's fault it is. Bag em both imo. But if we must keep Pruitt PLEASE get rid of Chaney. His track record at UT is awful.

He can’t scheme wins, dude. The talent has to execute it and we clearly don’t have that at QB. Cmon man!!
Highest paid OC in the country can't scheme wins. That's a problem, no? I'm still holding out hope that it's all been due to JG, but at this point its on the coaches for continuing to play the kid. Plus, while JG is terrible, there are more routes than just 50-50 Gos and 2-8 yard curls. Chaney's playcalling has not helped JG in the slightest. Will be fun to see what Bailey makes happen this weekend though.
