Next gen console power (PS5 and Xbox Series X)

It looks like the PS5 outperforms the XSX in AC: Valhalla.

Edit: Another comparison with Series S include:

So it looks like both hold 60 FPS almost all the time. PS5 holds it 97.5% of the time and XSX 87.3% of the time. Also XSX has screen tearing and stuttering in cutscenes. Interesting. I wonder if a patch may clean that up.

PS5 holds a steady 60 FPS in towns with dips during battles, but XSX never really holds 60 FPS.

Been saying it for a while. These two consoles are VERY close in terms of performance. People who bought into the Xbox "most powerful console ever" hype are going to be very disappointed. There's more that goes into a console's performance than a list of specs.

I posted another video comparison. PS5 holds 60 FPS 97.5% of the time and XSX 87.28% of the time.

I wonder if the XSX is too PC-like in its architecture and therefore a little unoptimized. PCs have to be more powerful than consoles to equal them in performance (i.e., a spec for spec PC will lose out to its console equivalent).

Xbox is the more powerful console. That's not debatable. But I think it's too early to tell what the impact will be. Most of the game tests show xbox loading much faster, which is surprising and probably is due to something other than raw hardware. I think overall the xbox will outperform the ps5 once we get a bit more into optimized next gen games. Right now test results are all over the place and people are picking and choosing the ones that fit their agenda.

In DMC the xbox performed better at 4k60. It's more dependent on the game at this point than the hardware, imo.

Is that true? Any links? Not denying, I've just never heard that and find it interesting.

Yup I switched the trigger force feedback off around round 3 lol. Just don’t want it in competitive shooters.
So, I found this odd. When you turn off adaptive triggers and rumble in black ops, there's still some sort of feedback at the very bottom of the trigger pull. It feels to me like the trigger stops at 90% but if you pull a little harder you can get to 100. Have you noticed that?

In terms of raw power, PS4 Pro's GPU is roughly comparable to an AMD 470/570 and Xbox One X's is comparable to an AMD 480/580. Essentially mid-range GPUs from 2016.

Just as an example, here's how those GPUs handle AC Odyssey at 4K

PS4 Pro and X1X aren't exactly delivering true PC ultra settings at 4K (they use dynamic resolutions so not always true 4K) but they do maintain 30 FPS, and you can see that their comparable GPUs don't really come close to matching their performance on PC.

Can also extrapolate performance for Valhalla. It performs worse than Odyssey on PC right now but PS5 and XSX can do true 4K at 60 FPS most of the time, so they're outperforming even the 2080 Ti by a lot.

Biggest reason that consoles perform better with equivalent parts is that everything architecture and API-wise are unified and optimized. Everything overall is just more efficient. It can depend on the game, though, but for the most part it holds true. PCs essentially have to "brute force" great performance.

Yes, it’s a little bit of a weird feeling

Bots are ruining major launches like this. Near impossible to get one legitimately. I’ll be waiting a few months.

I know. I feel extremely fortunate to of gotten one. I hate scummy ass scalpers. But people are desperate enough to buy from them

I haven’t been able to get one yet. I’ve seen all the scalpers are trying to sell them for 1000-1500$. Absolutely insane

It’s a shame people don’t just say no and stick those guys with 20 ps5s that they can’t dump
Can't dump? Worst case they just get returned to the store.

I was going to sell some for a profit but I was nice and sold 2 xboxes and a ps5 at retail for friends. Made a lot off 360s back in the day. Just didn't have the energy this time around. Or maybe I'm older and don't want to be a dick. Who knows.

I got a launch 360 and scalped it and it gave me beer money for a semester in college, lol.

Well sold my series X for what I paid. Just don’t see the need in having both consoles at this point and the series X didn’t do anything to wow me. Not taking anything away from it, just don’t think I would spend much time on it at all with the PS5 on the other side of the tv. Sold rather quick even for being “used”.
