Nuclear Option: Peyton Manning as Head Coach.

You people are so alarmingly brain dead. What evidence is there that Peyton would be a great coach even if he wanted to. He was a generational QB, that DOES NOT ensure he would be a wunderkind as a head coach. It would just hinder or even obliterate his legacy if he did not succeed. Even being a proven championship coordinator doesn’t guarantee success.

And what if he would be a great coach and you’re just being a curmudgeon for the sake of spouting your baseless opinion?

39-6 career record at UT, never lost to Georgia, and the only QB in UT history to beat Bama 3 times.
I guess some people can never be satisfied.
Bama and Georgia were not what they are now, Florida was the only game that mattered. Not to mention Tennessee gets rocked every single time he shows up, and now he has a restaurant/hotel on the strip to further curse the Vols.

Makes sense - so when we compare the greatest Vols who ever played we need to make sure to discount their accomplishments because perhaps they did not play against the greatest SEC competition teams of all time (it's Peyton's fault that Bama and UGA did not happen to have those teams available to make sure he never wins to support your narrative).
How about considering the opposite - would Saban's best teams actually have a winning record against our best teams from the 90's? I highly doubt it - I'm pretty sure most of our teams from the 90's would have beaten that same Alabama team that looked so invincible on Saturday (and Spurrier's Gators would have spanked them as well).

This Alabama team would run every 90s Florida/Vols team off the field

I just don’t see Peyton wanting to deal with coaching at the college level. He has better opportunities with less stress and more money.

That's just dead wrong - we had very balanced teams with athletes all over the place that would certainly beat them, and Spurrier's Gators would not only beat them but probably embarras them beyond belief (if Kiffin scored that easily with his Ole Miss against this Bama defense it's scary to think what Spurrier's offense from those days would have done - probably would have scored 70 on them).

Peyton Manning bleeds orange. He’s still a guy that kids playing now/recruits watched growing up.

There’s no way Peyton is not thinking about getting involved watching his beloved Alma mater flounder the way we have been.

I know Scott Frost at Nebraska and Harbaugh at Michigan haven’t been immediate successes—but I am very confident both of those men are going to get their Alma maters back to where they should be.

I think Michigan might win the Big Ten this year. And I think Frost is going to have Nebraska competitive in the next 2-3 years.

Peyton is a football genius. He’s known for knowing what is going to happen before anyone else on the field did. He is a gamer/strategist on the field, and I believe that will translate to coaching success.

He’s got the charisma and the ability to bring in elite staff.

Now is the time to start seriously considering getting Peyton in orange as the face of this program.

I think he will end up restoring Tennessee football and making us elite again.

Peyton is not coaching UT football. He is a player and a business man.

Manning would take the Elway route in football. Be a General Manager or AD. Doubt it happens now because he would of starting training as as assistant already. He doesn’t need to work again. He will just make the occasional endorsements.

Why would Manning want to coach the Vols? He is beloved by ALL Vol fans for his playing days at UT and he doesn’t need the money either. If he were the coach the Legions of the Miserable would turn on him too just like they have on every other VFL that has coached this program!

1. We don't need a new head coach. We have one. Impatience of some in the fan base, be damned.

2. Peyton will never coach college football. He's pretty much said that, more than once. He loves the Volunteer nation too much to ever risk them hating him. And yes, he has said that, too.

So other than those two points, great idea, OP.
Thanks JP you are as always a voice of reason.

While I understand the OP's frustration, this has been covered many, many times on here.
Peyton has said more or less thanks but no thanks.

Well that settles it then. We can all log off now. Howie has spoken. Peyton is an awful Playoff QB because Howie says so. Thanks for straightening us out man. You’re really doing everyone here a service.

Congratulations on being one of the smart ones that's figured it out...

But when he did play him in the biggest games, aka playoff games, guess who came out on top more often? Not Brady, it was manning. The butthurt is oozing from you 😂😂😂

Lmao "more often"... Manning was 3-2 against Brady in the playoffs, 1-2 against with with the Colts... Dude...

Great attempt at moving the goalpost... "Peyton has a winning record against Brady in the playoffs, therefore he must be awesome..." You can't excuse a 14-13 record and NINE one and dones with MULTIPLE 1 or 2 seeds in the playoffs as anything other than just being bad... Get real... Like I actually feel bad for you as a human...

Only if it means he is bringing his nephew lol. I bet that kid could read an NFL defense in middle school. And while we are at it make Ole' Cutt OC & let Eli be Qb coach since we dnt really use a Qb coach anyway

please leave Peyton out of this. everyone loves him and he done way more than his share for tennessee football. if he has the same result as the last three head coaches this fan base would turn on him.

More chance of getting Gruden when he's fired in Vegas.

Funny that you say that.

I don't think anyone realizes that he owns property in the area already. His wife is a VFL cheerleader from UT. His daughter graduated here. He speaks @ UT all the time. Has our helmet in his office. Loves Peyton. Is a VFL himself bc he coached here. Was literally about to be announced as the next HC here before the AD screwed it up at the 11th hour. Was on the verge of coming back to replace butch before AD-gate screwed it all up. He would even wear an orange tie on MNF to signal!!!

With the coming collapse in Vegas (most likely by him on purpose to get his dream job) being on a parallel course with Pruitt's downfall, it's apparent what is already in the works. A lot of rumors already swirling that a deal behind the scenes may be in the works for after this season. Once you start hearing the media reporting it, then you'll know it's about to happen. Just be patient.

Soon!

Our program is on life support right now. We don’t need a legendary alum with zero head coaching experience. We need a proven HC. I love Peyton, but I doubt he would touch this dumpster fire with a ten foot pole. And I don’t blame him

You forgot the ‘not so’ in front of your username...

*sigh*....do you think we were looking for unproven coaches?!? What the hell do you think we’ve been doing with past coaching searches....

I seriously can’t even calculate how you can’t see the complete state of Tennessee football and how basically our only option at this point is Peyton as HC.

Or we should just not take a chance. Peyton can stay beloved in Knoxville, and we stay Vanderbilt in perpetuity. It’s much too risk to try to make a change. It’s much safer to stay Vanderbilt. We could hire Peyton as HC and become Vanderbilt...

What...
