Nuclear Option: Peyton Manning as Head Coach.

Then what is your solution? You think your snide negativity is going to have any fix/solution for us? This type of BS comment will be the thing that keeps us a Vanderbilt tier football program.

Maybe patience? It's been 5 games this year in a really strange year. The only 2 teams that look legit are Bama and UGA (on defense anyways). Mizzu beat LSU for crying out loud.

So let’s just accept we’ll never be good again. Got it.

I see no other solutions. No other options.
I didn’t say we shouldn’t do it. I just hate the idea of having Peyton fail and have his well deserved reputation tarnished in any way. It is nice to still have heroes. And unless your name is Sweeney or Saban, you Are going to end up being hated by your fan base at least some of the time.

After Harbaugh wins the big ten this year, that maye the light bulb y’all need see the potential of a former player becoming a coach.

I get it. Tennessee never thinks innovatively. And we should just follow what everyone else does and we can hire rhe crumbs from Saban’s table. And maybe we’ll catch lightning in a bottle.

Seeing the lack of vision from the replies has me almost completely sure we’ll never be good at football again.

Pruitt is going to drain the cupboards. 2 years from now we’re going to start a coaching search that will result in another subpar hire. And the cycle continues.

You know what won’t have as much value over time? Peyton as HC for immediate recruiting impact.

Peyton as HC has time value, and I’m sure most of y’all have no concept of time value so I’m probably wasting my logic here.

Peyton Manning bleeds orange. He’s still a guy that kids playing now/recruits watched growing up.

There’s no way Peyton is not thinking about getting involved watching his beloved Alma mater flounder the way we have been.

I know Scott Frost at Nebraska and Harbaugh at Michigan haven’t been immediate successes—but I am very confident both of those men are going to get their Alma maters back to where they should be.

I think Michigan might win the Big Ten this year. And I think Frost is going to have Nebraska competitive in the next 2-3 years.

Peyton is a football genius. He’s known for knowing what is going to happen before anyone else on the field did. He is a gamer/strategist on the field, and I believe that will translate to coaching success.

He’s got the charisma and the ability to bring in elite staff.

Now is the time to start seriously considering getting Peyton in orange as the face of this program.

I think he will end up restoring Tennessee football and making us elite again.
Peyton Manning will never be the head football coach at the University of Tennessee. Never. Just stop and choose to embrace reality.

Or...hear me out....he’s successful. His legend grows. He restores his Alma mater to our rightful place as a competitor with bama on top of the sec....

To quote Kevin McAllister from home alone 2: lost in New York while talking with the homeless pigeon lady:

“I got roller blades for my birthday once. And I kept them in the box because I didn’t want to mess them up. Eventually when I decided to finally put them on they didn’t fit anymore.”

He was a successful NFL head coach.

Pretty sure this idea has been thrown around since VN began. It ain't new

He gets paid too much for advertising for him to be abused by our fans for only $5M/year to coach the Vols. It's just Business.

We have a head coach for now and next year. Next year would be the time to evaluate this stuff. I have said it on the past two coaching searches, you don't just fire someone and not have someone else in mind and in waiting. This is why the coaching searches have been a mess. You have to have a plan and interest in the people that fit your plan. CoronaVirus isn't the time to panic and get into a coaching search that would be the single worst thing we can do.

I don't believe UT is going to remain down, We are literally a good QB away from 9-10 win seasons and competing against the big 3 in our league. a good QB wins against Kentucky and is competitive in the Georgia game. Bama, not really sure we would have been within 14 even with a good QB this year.

This is why I am not panicking yet....

You cannot discount how much Peyton loves Tennessee. I would do almost anything to make us good. One of the things that motivates me to work hard with my business is to become a charitable alumnus and to give shady $50,000 handshakes to recruits eventually to get them to play for Tennessee because I know everyone else is doing it at other programs.

Peyton loves the Vols. It’s got to seriously pain him to see us the way we are, and he can do something about it by being our HC and deploying his football genius.

Peyton is a football genius.

You gotta let Beethoven write music.

You gotta let Peyton coach football.

Makes perfect sense.

The fact that the QB we have playing this year—and the fact that he started last year should be setting off the panic bells. Because it has been enough for me to 100% know that Pruitt is not an executive decision maker.

Just a casual statement on this....PEYTON MANNING WILL NEVER, EVER, YEA I SAY IT AGAIN, EVER be the head coach at UT or any other collegiate program and probably not a head coach of any team...did I mention EVER!.
I liken Peyton to a grandchild that we dearly love and we're so very proud of him. We are so excited when he comes to visit and spend a few hours with us...But he is so successful, and important, and belongs to the world's society (man, that sounds new age which I abhor) that we WOULD NEVER THINK OF ASKING HIM TO MOVE IN WITH HIS GRANDPARENTS! That's how it would be for Peyton to come to UT as a head coach...not to mention how quickly Volnation would turn on him and want him fired with the first 2 years.

Welp. This did not go as I’d hoped. Was hoping for William Wallace like uprising.

Got Longshanksed by the haters.

Cheers to the bottom!

Rocky Bottom will always be—home sweet home to me.

I’m all for it. I think he’s too smart to do it but hey if he expressed interest I’m all in. But you’re right in that we will wait for the roster to nosedive again before making the change. And we will under hire, again, and the. Have this same post in say 2026?

He’s not interested and although he was a great player, there’s nothing to suggest he would be a great HC. Total feel good hire.

Remind me of how many former UT players have gone on to become elite NFL coaches and then had an opportunity to come back to their alma mater. Harbaugh won division titles and took his team to the Super Bowl and within one play of winning it. We don't have anyone from UT that meets those standards

That you continue with your silliness just adds to the clown show you're becoming as a poster in this forum
