Shrout looked very good in his limited playing time. Plus they have another year in the program so how can you state they are not ready now based ion limited playing time last year.I would play the qb who gives them the best chance to win and whether we like it or not it is probably JG. With the exception of a quarter or two for Maurer, neither of the backups looked ready.
Really, after one ass whippin?
Looking at the dumpster fire start for SEC and B12, at this moment we still have an outside shot at CFPs if we can take care of a bama team that surrendered 48 points and it could have been worse. Florida and aTm are mortals and Auburn looks very suspect. Arky is better but still should be beatable. 7 or 8 wins isn't a stretch for this team and 9-1 is possible. I'd have to say we are the 3rd - 5th best team in the league right now and #2 showed some serious vulnerabilities on defense, especially last night.
But you want to throw in the towel?
This guy started as a true Freshman. If I’m the coach?
JT Shrout starts and plays till he proves he’s not the answer. He’s got the size and best arm on the team, so I can at least have a vertical passing threat to help neutralize the D stacking the box if he can complete balls.
If that doesn’t work I go to Maurer, and we build the plan around his strengths. Unless I absolutely have to am I putting HB out there. I’m trying to win now, putting HB out there (even if he has the highest ceiling) isn’t conducive to that thought process.
I still don’t understand what you’re saying.Clemson wasn't afraid to go with a true Freshman to start their season, were they? I guess it paid off. Our Freshmen aren't any good?
I question whether or not those who we recruited are ready to play. How the hell will we ever know unless they do? If we trust the coach to make the correct assessment, (after all he's a professional, been in it for years and gets paid a boat load of cash), then are we to assume that our QB recruits are worse than JG? Because that is the only QB that is playing (so far) three game in (and 5 years in) with the results we all can see.I still don’t understand what you’re saying.
I think you’re trying to say Bailey compares to Lawrence? Not really sure honestly.
However, my point is right in line with what it seems your trying to say, if our freshman are good enough to play why wouldn’t they? This is why the two freshman who got to play last year would get to play this year, and if they couldn’t get it done, then I’d role Bailey out there.
I’m not doubting what you’re saying, and everything I’ve said supports what you’re saying.I question whether or not those who we recruited are ready to play. Is Trevor Lawrence an exception? Probably. But the fact still remains that Clemson wasn't afraid to put him in there to start and finish a season that resulted in a National Championship. Yes, they had a good supporting cast, but good Lord, Lawrence delivered because he was given a chance. If our recruits are hyped as the latest and greatest and we scored by getting them, why the heck aren't they ready to play now? I understand why HB may not be ready due to lack of a normal Spring thanks to COViD, but Maurer, Shrout have been here under the same system for these two years.
When will it be their time or are they less talented than JG? If so, why are they here? Several teams have gone the transfer route and done just fine. LSU last year, ring any bells? Yet, we stick with what we've got.
Why?
It appears that our QB situation sucks, then. So the outcome of our season should be about the same as last year's if everything goes right. That's the ceiling for our team. No better but could be worse with some bad breaks.I’m not doubting what you’re saying, and everything I’ve said supports what you’re saying.
The fact that JG continues to play is a very easy answer, it’s just an oxymoron so no one will accept it. Pruitt, Chaney, or both don’t like any of their options to replace #2.
What do we have to gain for the future by trotting out a 5th year senior who can't read a defense, know when to get rid of the ball, and wilts under pressure in games.I would play JG against KY but if he has back to back turnovers that he is responsible for I’d put in Shrout or Maurer. If we have a sizable lead let HB play some to get experience.
Alabama- We should give Maurer first quarter, JG second and Shrout third quarter. Play the best playing QB 4th quarter. Maybe HB last quarter to throw Bama off?
You’re correct, I believe we have a couple of guys who can get it done, but you’re not going to see it. This issue is much bigger than JG, it’s the staff. As much as they’re doing right, the handling of this situation is bizarre. It appears that our QB situation sucks, then. Yep. But Pruitt won't do that...I’m the coach....so I see Tennessee can’t get it done with it’s current QB. I let the top two “other” guys have all the snaps 1 & 2 throughout the week.
VS KY I start whoever looked the “most complete” and the “most ready”......not necessarily who was the best. Depending on the situation I may give the other one a shot as well......but I would not simply rotate them in and out.
Do I think Tennessee could beat KY with JG....yes; however I don’t think Tennessee could be what I think they are capable of being with JG.....therefore I would make a change.

I'm wondering if out of this scrimmage on Sunday evening we don't see some HB or BM in the KY game next week.
