Who will be the qb this year?

I can certainly see it happening for him as speed kills! I just remember how thin Hunter was and that dude was 6'4 and a blazer, didn't do a whole lot as a Fr, Peerless was small his Fr year and didn't do much, Joey Kent did nothing and I don't even know if Stallworth played his 1st year. I'm all for speed I just can't recall the small guys having much success their Freshman seasons. If we get 200-400 yards from him this season would be big and point towards future stardom. Either way he's one of the reasons I like this group. I'm bigger on Dee than most for several reasons, one is we have worked with he, his brother and family the last 3 years and I know what type of kid he is. With his measurements and how hard he plays the game I just think he's gonna be a star in Knoxville.
Stallworth had 23 receptions for 430 yards and 1td his freshmen year.
Peerless price had 6 receptions for 71 yards, but was buried ina very talented depth chart.
Joey Kent had 10 receptions for 209 yds and 5 tds.

Stallworth and Kent were both Solid contributors as freshmen. Prices size wasn’t as much of a deterrent as the players ahead of him on the depth chart. I like big receivers on the outside to, but for every Justin Hunter there is always a Matt Milton, or Jason Croom...
I expect JG to be pulled by midway in the 3rd quarter against South Carolina.

I hope it doesn’t take that long. I say give him 4 possessions if he looks the same as last year pull him. Our back ups have been in the system for two years now, there’s no reason to lose with a floundering senior qb.

I like Bailey. He will be much better than BM imo. he is white. JG is not black. I'm pretty sure his parents are Domincan or Italian or something.

It always amazes me you all that hate the non white qbs try to start this argument. Stop projecting your biases..
After reading your rhetoric and rascist posts in the politcal forums...i know this is the issue...especially when all you talk are stats.....but ignore other stats...

JG would do great in the MAC...but when freshman on his own team and others outplay him...therebis an issue...as for color...i liked Schaffer, Dobbs, Martin....be cause they are mobile QBs....not for color like you

I didn't say I wanted that situation. I was just stating a fact that we've had guys that have come in and played as true freshman. Gurantano is FCS quality. From what I hear about Bailey's practices, he's the real deal. Get him out there NOW!
Jg has an almost elite arm, but he lacks the ability to anticipate throws and throw receivers open. Even good fcs quarterBacks have that ability to anticipate throws. He’s talented arm strength wise, but he’s just not a good qb.

If the other QBs were so much better they would have played more. JG did something that neither Dobbs, Bray, Ainge, Crompton and Clausen couldn’t do.

That is my thought too. However, I could see Pruitt giving giving him 1 or 2 possessions after halftime adjustments to try to turn things around before he benches him.

Well thats not true 05 EA beat #3 ranked LSU at Death Valley in OT...

And to be honest I think many VOL fans would trade 1 win against Auburn compared to numerous wins over UGA and FLA and other top 25 wins by those QBs...good try tho👏
Technically he started the game but got pulled after LSU took a big lead and Rick Clausen led the comeback.

Yeah my bad I forgot about that one. Still facts are facts. Taking stats into account as well JG was just as accurate as Clausen and has better A/Y/A. He is more accurate than Martin, Bray, Crompton or Ainge. His A/Y/A is second only to Bray.
I didn’t say Inwould trade 1 win. Just pointing out JG did something the other QBs I listed, besides Ainge, couldn’t do.

He may have a better stats but in context for example Bray played 5 top 25 teams his senior year..and threw 34 tds....against a tougher schedule...but Ill give you the Auburn win. That was his best game

Just going to throw this in here for all the people who say we have incompetent coaches if JG starts over HB.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone, at any point say anything of the sort. In fact all I’ve seen are people saying the same thing the tweet itself said.

Its not necessarily overwhelming in this particular thread, but there is a small anti-JG contingent on VolNation that I just felt needed to see this.

I said even before all this happened that I did not expect HB to factor in this year. It is really tough for Fr to do it even when there's no one else in the room and they are the focus of all coaching. That's not the case for HB.

Like him or hate him, JG was statistically our best QB last year, and is going to start this year. It's completely up to him how long he stays in that position.

Shrout has seemingly improved based on the practice reports, so he will seemingly give us at least something as a backup. I thought he looked okay last year.

Who knows if Maurer will be healthy by the start of the season. He's dealing with a hamstring injury, and considering the running was a big part of his game, that certainly matters. Hopefully he'll improve majorly on his decision making.

Bailey is behind the 8ball with all the time he's missed. Pruitt even mentioned him by name about being affected by this strange year. I think he's probably the most talented of the bunch, but when your development gets halted that much, it'll be hard to overcome this year.

Depends on what statistics are important to you. He was terrible in the red zone. Outside the top 100 QB's nationally in RZ passing. The O has never scored points effectively or moved the ball consistently with him. He has not led UT to more than 30 offensive points in a game vs an FBS opponent in his career.

For perspective, UT averaged 366 points per season in the 10 years prior to JG becoming the starter... and that's not good compared to UT's O's in the 90's. In the 3 years in which he has competed for the job and started... UT has scored 275 points per season. You cannot lay it all at his feet but you cannot ignore the HUGE drop off between Dobbs and anything JG has done since. For that matter, UT scored as many points in 4 games behind Dormady as they did in 7 behind JG.

Oh yea the great GT and FCS teams that QD had decent stats against. Let's ignore JG was better and played the tough part of the schedule.

Stop lying about the top 100 redzone qbs. Those guys with 10 passes do not count. They don't qualify for statistical rankings due to lack of attempts.

Lmao
