Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

Was the Michigan fab 5 before the current ranking system?
The original question was around Rivals, so that's what I used, and I could only go back about 20 years. I also looked at the 247 Composite and got the same results. That Fab 5 team certainly would have had 3 of the top 10, maybe 4.

It all starts with KC. I know he said he was waiting till later in the Fall to make a final decision, but I really hope he decides to make a decision soon. I'm definitely super hopeful about this class. I hope it pays dividends.

yeah, we need him to commit by this summer to get everything going.

Just how valuable will having football signees Beckman and Wideman on the basketball team be?

I think their good enough that their defensive physicality will help a ton in practice. And for their own egos(not a knock) they’ll practice to earn minutes in games cause that’s all they know up to this point. That’s huge whether they succeed at it or not. Imo

If we get them on the practice court they will be integral to our success. We could use the boost of athleticism because after looking at our new crop of walk-ons it doesn’t seem like they are Brad Woodson, Brock Jancek, or Lucas Campbell level of walk-ons.

In a recent interview with Daniels, Bal said he’s considering coming to the US for college but is keeping his options open to go straight to the NBA Draft once eligible.

Bal plays for INSEP Academy, the same prep school that current Vol forward Yves Pons played for before signing on with Tennessee as a four-star prospect in the 2017 class. INSEP has produced a number of notable basketball players over the years, including Tony Parker, Boris Diaw, and Ronny Turiaf.

The 16-year-old guard started to get noticed on France’s U16 team last summer in the FIBA U16 European Championship. Bal averaged six points, a rebound, and an assist in 12.6 minutes a game in seven contests with France’s U16 squad according to FIBA. In three games with the U18 CFBB team, Bal averaged 6.3 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 12.7 minutes. He also put up 5.1 points, 1.1 assists, and 1.0 rebounds a game in 16.9 minutes a contest in 17 games for Centre Federal in the France-NM1 according to ProBallers.com.

If he commits in the fall, you really have to like our chances. Highly doubt he'll be able to take any more visits if that's the case.

The Jabari Smith thing is weird to me. You’d think with a prospect that big we’d be hearing rumblings about the Vols being in good position from people like Rob Lewis who are close to the program (like we did with Springer, Keon, Josiah, Kennedy Chandler, etc). But going off what he says and who he’s visited it seems like it may be down to us and Auburn (and maybe some third school?). Just doesn’t feel like it’s gonna be UT.

We’re really going to need his size next year, hope the staff puts on the full court press and ends up getting him. He certainly has opportunity here, he’d likely start and be our featured big man from day 1 barring we get a really good grad transfer.

I think if Chandler commits to us this week, you’ll see our fortunes with Jabari change rather quickly. Just a hunch.
